Moses And The Life of Faith Hebrews 11:-2 God is not going to do what only He can do until we have done what we can do. Randy Patten Part 7 1 2 The Divine Human Cooperative Wiber Welch 1. Creation is by God but man is responsible to subdue the earth. 2. Holy Spirit causes Mary s conception but Mary is responsible to endure the pregnancy, give birth and raise Hebrews 11:-2 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king's edict. 24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He considered the the child. 3 4 reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible. 2 By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them. James 2:24 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. James 2:26 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead. 5 6

Eph 2:-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Phil 2:12-13 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. 7 Eph 2:-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Church History 9 10 True Faith Overcomes Fear Hebrew 11:-27 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king's edict. 24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, 25 choosing rather 11 to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible. 12

2 WAYS TO GO WHEN MAKING A DECISION Read Hebrews 11:24-27 before making your decision. DESIRE-ORIENTED COMMANDMENT-ORIENTED Your decision begins by asking: What do I want? (James 4:1-3) Write your answer here: Your decision begins by asking: What does God want? (Eph 5:10) Write your answer here: Heb 11: Faith Conquers Our Fears In making this decision, you choose present pleasures, and you ignore the longterm suffering that will inevitably occur. What are the present pleasures? What are the inevitable long-term sufferings? In making this decision, you choose possible present suffering in order to guarantee long-term pleasures. What are the possible present sufferings? What are the guaranteed long-term pleasures? With Moses, your decision is an opportunity to choose Christ. Write out your decision: 13 14 Fear Not: Rev - overcomers The most repeated admonition in Scripture 21:7 cowards 1 st on list of those who go to hell. Cowards: Matt :26 15 16 ~ It is scary to live by faith. ~ God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and love and a sound/disciplined mind. By faith the people of God have overcome their worst fears. 17 1

11:24 By Faith Moses Refused ~ His faith made him make a decision When you live by faith you live for different reasons than those around you. 19 20 Get This Decision: #1 ~ Moses gave up the glories of an Egyptian prince and chose the hazards of the desert. Moses Decision: #2 ~ He gave up the honor and respect of a prince in favor of identifying with slaves and despised losers. Why? 21 22 11:26 He Considered the Reproach of Christ. ~ Note it is not the reproach of Jesus but of Christ. He knew Christ would come out of Israel. He did not know His name would be Jesus. 2 Cor 5:9-10 9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. 24

1 Cor 3:10-15 10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. 11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw-- 13 each 25 one's work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. 14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. 26 11:26c For He Was Looking to His Reward Matt 5:12 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. 27 2 Matt 5:46 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? Matt 6:1-2 1 "Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2 "Thus, 29 when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 30

Matt 6:5 5 "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. Matt 6:16 16 "And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 31 32 Mark 9:41 41 For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward. Luke 6:, 35 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets 35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. 33 34 Luke 10:7 7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. 1 Cor 3:,14 He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. 14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. 35 36

1 Cor 9:17-1 17 For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward, but not of my own will, I am still entrusted with a stewardship. 1 What then is my reward? That in my preaching I may present the gospel free of charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel. Rev 11:1 1 The nations raged, but your wrath came, and the time for the dead to be judged, and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints, and those who fear your name, both small and great, and for destroying the destroyers of the earth." 37 3 2 John Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. What are the guaranteed long-term pleasures? With Moses, your decision is an opportunity to choose Christ. Write out your decision: 40 True faith chooses when necessary to suffer, identify with losers and take the more difficult path in this life so they might receive God s reward in the next life. where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. You obey - Matt 6:19-20 19 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for 41 42 yourselves treasures in heaven,

You live under the shadow of: 2 Cor 5:9-10 9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. You get along with other believers in light of the day you must give account to God yourself. Romans 14:12 12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. 43 44 1. True faith make decisions according to circumstances that lend themselves to I spy God situations - vs.. 2. God s promises - vs. 26 3. He left Egypt He kept the passover Note the value system: Wealth in the next life is way more important than wealth only in this life. 47 4

The same with suffering: Hebrews 11:35 35 Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life. 49 True faith endures as seeing Him who is invisible Hebrews 11:1-3 1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the people of old received their commendation. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of 50 things that are visible. True faith obeys the Word of God Hebrews 11:2 2 By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them. 51 Hebrews 11:-2 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king's edict. 24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He considered the 52 reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible. 2 By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them. 53
