Nazareth Holy Sites Next we ll continue our tour with a short drive to Nazareth, the town where Jesus spent his childhood. Today, camels, monasteries, and ancient tombstones dot these scenic slopes. Old City Jewish Quarter The Jewish Quarter remains one of the single most-visited spots in all of Israel. Nestled within one square kilometer of land lay millennia of ancient history. The Old City dates back to the 8th century BCE and is home to numerous landmarks of historical significance. Church of the Holy Sepulchre Located in the Old City's Christian Quarter, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is the holiest site in Christian faith. It is here that Jesus was crucified and later buried. At the center of the church is the Stone of Unction, the location where Jesus body was prepared for burial. King David s Tomb Possibly the tomb of the great Israelite King David, this site has been visited by pilgrims Jewish and Christian for centuries. It also served as a substitute prayer site when Jews were denied access to the Wailing Wall (1948 to 1967) while Jordan controlled the Old City. Last Supper Room Visit the site of the Last Supper, where Jesus dined with his disciples on the night before his arrest. Situated above the Tomb of King David, this long hall is a perfect place for group or individual worship. The rooftop here offers a panoramic view of the Old City of Jerusalem. Bethlehem & Church of the Nativity It is at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem where we will learn about the birth of Jesus. It is one of the world s oldest churches and houses the Grotto of the Nativity, the spot where the birth took place, marked by a 14-point silver star flanked by majestic silver lamps. Day 9 Thursday (Professional Guide & Tour Vehicle) UNITED JERUSALEM THE NEW CITY Israeli Parliament Building The Knesset Visit the seat of Israel s government since 1966. Sitting at the heart of modern Jerusalem, the Knesset is the home of the Israeli parliament with its 120 members. See Israeli democracy in action and learn about the architecture and art of the Knesset building itself. Israel Museum & Dead Sea Scrolls Founded in 1965, this is the largest cultural institution in the State of Israel and one of the world s leading art and archaeology museums. Here you will find the oldest existing biblical manuscripts in the world, the Dead Sea Scrolls, which are housed in the Shrine of the Book. Mount Herzl National Cemetery A burial place for prominent Zionist figures such as Theodore Herzl, Golda Meir and Yitzhak Rabin, here you will also find an expansive military cemetery; one quite full for a country so young. The loss of the soldiers who fought for the land of Israel is palpable. Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum In 1963, the Yad Vashem Museum was established as the world center for Holocaust research, education and commemoration.
