News & Notes September 2, 2018 Welcome! We re glad you re here today. If you are new to Messiah, please stop by the Welcome Center in the Gathering Space for your gift. Good Stuff to Know: The Welcome Center is located right outside the Worship Center. Feel free to ask the volunteer any questions you may have or pick up some information on Messiah. Restrooms are on the south side of the Gathering Space in the coat rack area. If you would like to receive Holy Communion and are unable to approach the Altar area, please talk to an usher before the service. Difficulty Hearing? We have hearing impaired assistance available at the Welcome Center. For Those with Children: Busy Bags are filled with quiet activities for your children to use during the service. They can be found in the entryway of the Gathering Space. Children s Sermon: During the 8:45 and 11:00 a.m. services there is a Children s Sermon where all children are invited to come up. If your child doesn t want to come up alone, please feel free to come up and sit with them or sit in the front pew. Family Restroom: A family restroom is located by the coat racks across from the women s restroom. The Nursery is available for parents and their children three years of age and younger and is located in the hallway across from the rear of the Sanctuary. Sunday School: RESUMES AGAIN IN THE FALL! Middle School and Senior High Youth: RESUMES AGAIN IN THE FALL! Blue Cards: Whether you are a long-time member or a first-time visitor, please be sure to fill out one of the blue cards found in this folder. Please give the card to the ushers/acolytes during the offering. Gluten Free Wafers: So those with gluten allergies or Celiac Disease can fully partake in communion, we have individual wrapped gluten free wafers. If you would like a gluten free wafer, ask the person distributing the wafers when you approach. Disclaimer: The wafers are certified gluten free and are individually sealed, however, some gluten may be on the wrappers due to being in the proximity of gluten wafers. ( 1 )

WEDNESDAY EVENING MEALS WILL RESUME ON SEPTEMBER 5. On the menu for the week is: pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, chilled fruit cups, fresh veggies, dessert and beverage. Meals are served 4:45 6 and are free will donation. F M F Donation Opportunity We will be hosting families the week of Sept. 16 23. A poster in the gathering area lists food and items that will be needed. Please bring your donation to church by Friday, Sept. 14 th. Put it in the box by the office or the refrigerator marked FMF with your name on it. A monetary donation to FMF on also be made. Make your check payable to Messiah Lutheran. Write FMF on the memo line. CONFIRMATION STARTS on Sept. 5. Registration begins at 5:30 and the Orientation Program starts at 6, both in the Blue Room. Registration fee is $25 (checks should be made out to Messiah). Pastor Rich will be teaching 2 nd and 3 rd year and Christy Birkeland will teach 1 st year. Have you ever had an opportunity to ask? Well, this is your chance. If you or someone you know wants to ask questions or join Messiah Lutheran Church, contact the Church Office to sign up. Pastor Rich will be leading the class on Sunday evenings from 6:30-8:00 p.m. September 30 through November 4. BAZAAR PROCEEDS - Suggestion Box is located in the office through Sunday, September 9. Add your suggestion for missions or Messiah needs, your name, phone number and suggested amount. WEDNESDAY EVENING COMMUNITY MEALS HELP: We can always use some extra hands if you would like to help with the Wednesday meals here at Messiah. You can choose to help prepare, serve, clean up or make desserts or all of these!!! Check the sign up sheet on the bulletin board and hope to see some new smiling faces on Wednesday evenings!!!! RALLY DAY DONATIONS NEEDED We need a few food donations for the picnic! Please pick up a post-it in the Gathering Space and bring the donation to the kitchen by Sept. 8. SEPTEMBER DESERVES SOME HILARITY All people are invited to a special production by the Homeward Bound Theatre Company on Sunday, September 9 at am here at church! Cardboard Time Machine Adventures is a high-energy, exciting and hysterical story-telling program that follows a group of friends who rediscover their childhood time machine and find that it actually works! Transporting them to the scenes of Biblical times, the three friends discover what it means to live a life for Christ. APPLES!! Do you have an apple tree or have access to one? Baking apples are needed for the pies that are made for the bazaar. If you can help, please call Donna Lekang (651-784-3392) for more information. RALLY DAY SIGN-UP: Yes, it is already time to start thinking about Rally Day - Sunday, Sept. 9th! Check out the many volunteer opportunities posted on the bulletin board by the elevator. We need help Saturday to set up tents! Sunday we need help to set up tables, BBQ our meal, serve the meal, help with games-popcorn-snocones and clean-up! If you have questions contact Dayle Boyce - 612-781-0243. GRIEFSHARE HERE AT MESSIAH starting Monday, Sept. 10th from 4:00 to 5:30. If you have experienced the death of a loved one and could use some Christian support with others who have also recently experienced the death of a loved one, then GriefShare may be for you. GriefShare is Bible-based and includes a video featuring several people who have also had a loved one die. Then there is an opportunity for discussion. TUESDAY WOMEN S BIBLE STUDY-FELLOWSHIP Starting Sept. 11 in the Fireside Room from 12-2 pm. Bag lunch/fellowship from 12-12:30; prayers from 12:30 1 and Bible Study from 1-2. The stage production of Moses in the grand form from Sight and Sound Theaters. Check FathomEvents for theaters near you and order tickets online. JOURNEY BAGS We will be collecting items for bags that are assembled for kids who are going into foster care. Most often, when a child has to leave a home, they are unable to take many, if any, personal belongings with them. Journey Bags are a ministry to foster kids and families as they include a BAG, clothes, hygiene products, pajamas and a pillow for every kid to call THEIR OWN. Look for the display in the gathering space to choose an item to purchase for the collection. Thank you! Allison & Annie FAMILIES MOVING FORWARD: Messiah s hosting week is coming up Sept. 16-23. This program provides temporary housing through local churches to families while they locate affordable housing. Volunteer areas include providing meals, supervising an activity, sleeping at Luther Hall overnight. Prayerfully consider volunteering and stop at the FMF volunteer table for more information or to sign up. XYZ: Our September event will be on Sat. 9/29. A cruise on Lake Minnetonka on the historic Steamer Minnehaha for a fall colors tour. An hour cruise to see the lake sites from a vintage steamboat. We will be including in the day a lunch at our own expense. Check the XYZ location near the elevator for sign up and cost. Signup deadline 9/22. There is a 30 person limit. Payment is being collected by Aneita Hitzemen. All Aboard!! MESSIAH BOOK CLUB will meet on Thursday, September 20 at 2:00 in the Cross Roads. The book selection is THE LIFE WE BURY by Allen Eskin. Copies are available at your local library. Come join us. ( 5 ) MESSIAH MOPS is in need of childcare volunteers! Messiah MOPS meets every second Friday of the month, from September May, at Messiah from 9:30 AM 11:30 AM. Are you interested in volunteering? Try one month? Maybe jump right in and commit to more? CARE GIVERS SUPPORT We are exploring the possibility of starting a Care Givers Support Group and are looking for two different types of people! 1) Are you a care giver who could benefit from this? 2) Do you have experience in care giving and would be
