Ahoo! Ahoo! Spartans, the holidays are approaching and I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable holiday season. Congratulations to Excelsior for winning 1st place at this years SCJ football tournament and Liberal Arts for 2nd place. Thank you to all the chapters that came out and participated in the tournament and a BIG thank you to all who participated in the canned food drive. I have a trunk full of food to donate to the Midnight Mission. As for the canned food drive winner, Highland League accounted for more than 50% of our total donations. I personally want to thank you. Highland league will receive 10 spirit points. We will also be holding a clothing drive at SCJ Bowling for any of you leagues that want to take the next philanthropic crown! Many of you were curious about the raffle tickets at SCJ football. The tickets will be collected at every SCJ event and will be counted by league. Each ticket will be 1 league point and will be entered in a drawing at the end of the year for prizes! So start encouraging members in your chapter and league to attend all of the SCJ events this year! The SCJ spirit award this year will be selected on the basis of this system. For more info on this system please contact me. The next SCJ event will be our SCJ Holiday Extravaganza. It will be on December 2nd and will consist of a benefit dinner (6pm), auction (7pm), and the SCJ Holiday Dance from 8pm to midnight. The dinner is $7 dollars, the dance is $7 dollars, or $10 for both. Make sure to invite prospects, Job s Daughters and Rainbow Girls. The jurisdiction officers are pre-selling tickets. As of now, Southern California Jurisdiction is first in all of DeMolay International in membership with 138 members initiated in 2011. We are also only 13 members away from positive growth for the 3rd year in a row! So lets keep bringing in those members! I hope all of you are as excited about this year as I am because if you are, we are definitely going to have a amazing year. I see new Spartans emerging at every event I attend and I love it! Let's keep the roar loud and the brotherhood strong and continue to grow as a jurisdiction! Ahoo! Ahoo! Ahoo! PS. Any Demolay who can send me a message on Facebook with the text: "Together We Stand; By Virtue We Live" will get an extra raffle ticket toward league points. Walter Pijeaux SCJ Master Councilor 2011-2012

The Preceptor League Discussions Sonora League Page 3 Hello SCJ, Sonora League is coming along fine. The enthusiasm and support of our officers is leading us to the next quarter of our term. Our Sweetheart Lerina Galba-Bright, Brothers Alex Gomez, Jacob Hanson TJ Elliot and I also Dad & Mom Galba- Bright benefited from the Leadership Training held at the DeMolay Center in Anaheim on November 5, 2011. We made new friends from Colorado, West Virginia, New Mexico and Illinois. Every seminar presentation was unique including those of the DGM Dad Clampitte and our own IMC Brother Max Shoemaker. Some other cool events coming up in the New Year is Improv Night at Fellowship Chapter TBA; Moreno Valley s Installation on January 7, immediately followed by SCJ Bowling. Please visit our website http:// sonoraleague.shutterfly.com/ for more calendar events and fun pictures. Yours truly, Julius Galba-Bright Sonora League President Highland League Hey SCJ, Things are going very well for Highland League in our first months of the new term. Congrats to our own Vice President, Jacob Johnson for being installed for his first MC term up in KLS. And I would also like to offer my thanks to the Jurisdiction s support in our fall installations. The Highland League ritual competition will be held at Foothill Chapter in Upland, on December 3rd, with registration starting at 8:30 AM. We welcome everyone to come out to compete, and wish all who participate good luck! On December 10 is our annual Winter Car Wash at the Wendy s off the Day Creek exit on the 210 freeway. It is our largest fundraiser of the year, and we would appreciate any and all support from across the Jurisdiction. Our presale tickets are on sale now for $5 per car and $8 per truck. Also our League Bowling competition will be held on December 17 at the Arrowhead Bowl in San Bernadino. It will be a $10 admission to compete, with an additional $1 charge for concessions (nachos, hot dogs & popcorn). Ted Baker Highland League President Titan League Hello SCJ, I would like to start by thanking everyone who attended any of the installations in Titan League; I know the chapters appreciated the support. Congratulations to Yorba Linda Chapter who managed to take 1 st place in both league dodge ball and volleyball on October 29 th ; if I m not mistaken this is the first time they have won both events in a number of years. To those who attended SCJ Football I hope you all had a great time. If on December 18 th you find yourself sitting at home with nothing to do, come join Titan League for our league meeting at 2pm at the DeMolay center, DeMolay casual attire. Remember, if your chapter is in our league and has the most participants at the meeting, not only do you win the shield of brotherhood, but you also receive a check for $50. So try to get your chapter to attend in force. Yorba Linda is hosting their annual New Year s Eve lock in and dance on December 31 st ; contact the Master Councilor for more information. And finally on January 14 th Titan and Paradise leagues are sponsoring a joint Ritual competition to be held at Whittier Masonic Center. For more information, contact myself or Brother Gonzalez. Remember DeMolay is a brotherhood, so make the best of it and do your best not to argue with the other members when you have a different view on the topic at hand. If you can manage this, then your career as a member of this order will be brighter and more enjoyable. Andrew Flora Titan League President

They were all very well attended and it's amazing that we have so many amazing brothers throughout the Jurisdiction. Antelope Valley had it's first-ever Installation coming up on the 12th, with Austin Funk going in as Master Councilor. Congrats to all our new brothers initiated these past few weeks. At this rate, Walter is definitely going to be bald next Conclave! Neo-Trital hopes to see a lot of people attending our events, such as our Ritual competition and Installation of League Sweetheart/Princess on December 6th and our Midnight Mission Serving December 17th. The Preceptor Page 7 Greetings brethren, These past few months in Diamond League have been very successful. Theodore Roosevelt had their first installation in over five years at the end of October and had a very good turn out at the event. Both South Bay and Liberal Arts Chapters have been putting on degrees for initiating new members and giving them DeMolay Degrees. Our league is starting to experience rapid growth and several Masonic Lodges are considering opening or reopening DeMolay chapters. Coming up in the month of December for Diamond League is our membership class. We will be having it at the El Segundo Masonic Center starting at 12pm. Our league meeting will follow the degrees so i encourage everyone to attend to honor our new initiates and to learn what is happening with Diamond League. On the 16th, Diamond and Paradise League are teaming up again in hosting our annual Holiday Dance. The dance will be at the Bellflower Masonic center. The dance will cost five dollars, or you can bring a new toy as part if our toy drive. Bringing a toy will cover the cost of admission. The dance will start at 7pm following paradise's league meeting. I hope to see everyone there having a great time. Diamond League DeMolay wishes everyone a happy holiday season and we hope to see all of our brothers around the jurisdiction. Page 8 December 2011 SCJ Congress Secretary Greetings SCJ, This year has started off great Spartans, keep up the great work! These past few moths have been really successful for SCJ. Membership is constantly on the rise toward the third consecutive year of positive growth. We are also off to a great start on our 200 new members goal for SCJ and to shave the afro off our Master Councilor. Football was very successful and congratulations to Excelsior Chapter for winning first place in the Tournament. Everyone played hard and it showed that SCJ has a lot of athletic superstars. I cannot wait for our next sporting event and to see who takes home the gold. I was able to join Highland League during their visit to the Covina Masonic Homes for their Day of Comfort. We had lunch with the residents and had a great time listening to their stories when they were DeMolay s and their Masonic careers. After the lunch was the performance of the Flower Talk by Brother Christian Cross and I performed the Father Talk. The residents really enjoyed our visit and I would like to thank Haley and Alexandra for attending as well. During Thanksgiving weekend was the invasion to Nor Cal. It was a lot of fun and I am proud to say that SCJ had about thirty Spartans in force and showed Nor Cal what SCJ spirit is all about. We welcomed the new core of officers and Walter dubbed the brothers in Nor Cal honorary spartans. Finally, I want to wish everyone Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year and safe travels to your destinations as you join your families in a time of love and happiness. Yours truly, Joseph Musgrove SCJ Congress Secretary 2011-2012 Sweetheart love, Haley Holmes SCJ Sweetheart 2011-2012 SCJ Sweetheart Hello SCJ! The date of Sweetheart Leadership Camp has been changed to February 17 th -19 th. It will be held at the Covina Masonic homes and registration forms can be found on the Jurisdiction website. Please inform all of your chapter sweethearts and princesses and make sure to invite your Job Daughter and Rainbow girl sisters. Page 12 From The Jurisdiction Dad... December 2011 We have reached the final month of 2011; I believe we can proudly look back at this year as a successful year for SCJ. There is still more work that can be done, so let s not let this month go to waste. At the last count, we were 13 new members short of reaching positive growth so let s make one final push and achieve positive growth for a third year in a row! The holiday season is a time of joy and celebration for most of us, but let s not forget those who are less fortunate. Our Jurisdiction Master Councilor has challenged all of the members of Southern California to do more charitable work than we have done in the past. The canned food drive at football was a success and I would like to thank everyone who participated. The food drive was a good start in achieving Walter s vision of DeMolays doing more charitable work in their communities. Let s keep the effort up by putting extra effort into your Chapter s observance of the Day of Comfort. I would like to congratulate Excelsior on their victory at football last month. I would also like to thank all of the Chapters who participated in football; the sportsmanship that was displayed that day was in line with the high ideals of DeMolay and the best I have seen in many years. Let s see what we can do at future sporting events to continue this improvement. Our first activity of the New Year will be SCJ Bowling on January 3 rd. I hope to see all of you there. I wish you and your family a Happy Holidays. Fraternally yours, Dad Peterson Follow Updates & Events On SCJ TV!!!! SCL is Feb. 17-19, 2012 at the Masonic Homes in Covina. The registration forms are on the SCJ web page. Cost is $50.00 and registration closes on Feb. 1, 2012. No late registrations will be accepted. Our next PSD is on Dec. 18, 2011 @ noon. Please remind your League Princess and Sweetheart Directors that they should also be attending these meetings with their Sweethearts. As we are about to fill our homes with the Holiday Cheer, Please take a moment to remember those less fortunate then ourselves. Every little bit that can be given really does make a difference to someone out there. Whether it s donating toys to the Fire Depts., clothing to a local shelter, and non-perishables to a local food bank or food drive or volunteering at a shelter. Remember, simple acts of kindness really do matter... I do hope everyone has a Wonderful Holiday Season, and I m looking forward to seeing you in the New Year... Sweetheart Love and DeMolay Hugs Mom Harlan...

The Preceptor FROM THE E.O... Page 13 Happy Holiday s to my SCJ Family! It s hard to believe that we re already at the end of another record setting year for our Jurisdiction. Yes that s right, when you read this message SCJ will be only a handful of new members away from obtaining Positive Growth for the 3 rd Year in a Row! Something that has been dreamed about, but NEVER been accomplished in SCJ since its start as a Jurisdiction. We have been leading all of DeMolay International in membership until recently, and if our Jurisdiction and League officers get motivated and continue to work together with our Chapters, we still have a chance at finishing the 2011 year as the #1 Jurisdiction in DeMolay in Membership! There have been other great milestones accomplished this year. For the first time in 30 years SCJ is home to the International Master Councilor, Maxwell Shoemaker. We re also the home of the Region 8 Representative, Tyler Davies. We are very proud of our SCJ Past Master Councilors, who continue to share their Time & Leadership skills at different levels of DeMolay. SCJ has risen from an average Jurisdiction to a Powerful Force (in Leadership, Ritual & Membership) and a Great example for all of DeMolay of what can be accomplished when everyone in the management team makes Our Youth the #1 Priority! As in years before, I want to thank all of those who ll be stepping down from your present positions, at the end of this year, for your time and dedication to SCJ. I also like to take this opportunity to welcome aboard all who have agreed to take on new positions or responsibilities within our Jurisdiction. Dad Jacob Galba-Bright will be taking over as Sonora League Administrator, Mom Christney Barilla will be helping us to seek financial assistance by per suing Grants to sponsor SCJ s growing Leadership & Educational Programs, Dad Bob Mitchell will be Co-Chairman of the New Chapter Development Committee, Mom Jeanie Scott will be our New Eastern Star Liaison and Dad Brian Messenger will be our New Grand Lodge Liaison. What else will be New in 2012? The Priory will be returning to SCJ @ Conclave! & We re investing in a Relay For Life Kit! Our Leagues & Chapters will be involved with their Communities in fighting Cancer. I ve been asked, what s it like to be a Grand Lodge Officer? It s definitely a Great Honor to serve our Grand Lodge and it s my way of saying thank you, for all the help our California Masons give SCJ. I can tell you that the Most Worshipful Frank Loui and the Grand Family is a very warm and caring group of Masons and their Ladies, who are great supporters of our Youth. As Junior Grand Deacon, I have had the opportunity to travel and represent Masonry & DeMolay in many places throughout the State. As we enter the Holiday Season, let us all give thanks to our Heavenly Father for our families and for all the Blessings that we have received. Also don t forget those who are less fortunate than ourselves, try to reach out and help at least one person or family during this special time of the year. Mom Key & I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. Please enjoy the Holidays with all of your friends, but remember to do it Safely! No Texting while you re driving!!!! Fraternally, Just Dad Key
