We gather in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Call to Worship Time of silence Sisters and Brothers, we gather to worship our Creator and Redeemer. We gather to give thanks and praise to the one who sets us free. To be fully free, we know we need forgiveness. Forgive us, Lord, for what we have said and done and for what we have not said and not done. Forgive us for not trusting you and allowing fear to rule. Forgive us for the divisions we create and for not sharing your light and love with others. Hear us as we offer our silent confession. Almighty and most merciful God, We are thankful that your mercy is higher than the heavens, wider than our wanderings, deeper than all our sin. People of God, hear the Good News. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven and set free. Thanks be to God. We are forgiven and freed! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. 3
Hymn Battle Hymn of the Republic battle hymn Prayer of the Day 4 Lesson Proverbs 16:6, 7 Holy God, your love and peace transcend what we can understand. Open us to your reality that you come and whisper peace. You come and tell us to love everyone. You command us to put down fear and hate and pick up love and hope. Lord, teach us to do this. In your holy and precious name we pray. Amen Solo Take My Life and Let It Be Craig Courtney Bob Storeygard, soloist By loyalty and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the Lord one avoids evil. When the ways of people please the Lord, he causes even their enemies to be at peace with them.
Psalm 66:1-4 Read in unison Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; sing the glory of God s name; give God glorious praise. Say to God, How awesome are your deeds! Because of your great power, your enemies cringe before you. All the earth worships you; they sing praises to you, sing praises to your name. Hymn My Country, Tis of Thee national anthem 5
Holy Gospel Matthew 5:43-48 Glory to you, O Lord. Jesus said, You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Praise to you, O Christ. Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen 6
