Teresita Blazon Mary Donovan Renata Acosta-Reynoso Barbara Miller Connie Wilson Emil Rizko Luz Badberg Ask God for advice when you pray, even silently on the bus Pope Francis urged the faithful to use their moments of prayer to ask God for advice. He said they could even do so during silent prayer in the street or on the bus. Or pray to the Virgin Mary like a young man covered in tattoos and piercings did when he went to confess to Bergoglio in the Argentinian Shrine of Lujan. In a continuing series on the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the Pope encourages the faithful to always seek the gift of counsel. We know how important it is, especially in the most delicate moments, to be able to count on the advice of wise people who love us, Francis said. He continued, The Lord speaks to us and offers us advice in two ways: through prayer and through the voice and the testimony of others. Counsel, then, is the gift by which the Holy Spirit makes our conscience capable of making a concrete choice in communion with God, according to the logic of Jesus and of his Gospel. Prayer is so important. Praying those prayers that we all know from childhood and also praying with our own words, Lord, help me, advise me, what should I do now? With prayer we make room for the Spirit to come and help us in that moment. Nobody notices when we pray on the bus or on the streets, we pray in silence with our hearts. Take advantage of these moments to pray. Pray for the Spirit to give us the gift of counsel. It is the Spirit who counsels us, but we have to make room for the Spirit.
