Rev. Mike Winters Pastor Leigh Clark Minister of Music & Youth Dr. Ray Jones, Jr. Pastor Emeritus WISE BAPTIST NEWS A PUBLICATION FOR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF WISE BAPTIST CHURCH A place for faith and fellowship with family and friends. Dear church family and friends, What is true friendship and how does it happen? The question is raised in Luke 23:12 where it says, That day Herod and Pilate became friends before this they had been enemies. Both Herod and Pilate question Jesus. Both fear His arrest will cause civil unrest. What brings them together? Both govern the land. Both want to avoid inciting an uprising. This is more an alliance than a friendship. They have mutual interests. When those interests come to an end, so does their friendship. What is a true friend? Is it just a mutual interest or alliance? Is it every person who is a friend on Facebook? We may know more people than ever before, but how many true friends do we have? A true friend stands by you, even when there is no personal gain. A true friend is revealed through the test of time and life. Friendship takes time and effort. In order to have a friend, we must first be a friend. Friendship is sharing life s journey and experiences. Friendship is about trust and opening up our lives to one another. It is multiplying the joys and dividing the sorrows. We can be too busy to cultivate friendships. That is a mistake. Celebrate the friendships with which God has blessed you. Cultivate current friendships and develop a new one. You will be glad you did! I am blessed to be your pastor! I hope to see you Sunday. Love, Pastor Mike How to Join Wise Baptist Church: Express one of the following to the Pastor during the closing hymn: Transfer of Letter Transfer membership to Wise Baptist Church Baptism Desire to express faith in Christ through baptism Statement of Faith Baptized believer not on a membership roll Watch Care Desire to be connected to our Church family without official membership March 15, 2016 Important Dates New Wednesday Night Bible Studies Begin March 16 Fried Apple Pies March 19 20 Palm Processional March 20 Seder Service March 24 Children s Egg Hunt March 26 Flowering the Cross March 27 Armor of God April 7 Ballroom Dancing April 10 Inside Announcements Page 2 Announcements Page 3 From Leigh Page 4 BDays/Anniv. From Leigh Worship yesterday was awesome! Even though I was tired because of the time change and very sore from some overdue yardwork! It was a wonderful day. What a blessing to have Katie Elswick share her gift of music with us. She is a wonderful flute player. She has been playing with our Cantata orchestra for the past couple of years. Katie lives and teaches in Grundy. I hope we can have her back again real soon! The stage was full of musicians for TRUTH! What a blessing to have Kristen home for spring break these past two Sundays! It is always great to have Macey and Carla singing with us as well! There are not enough words to describe the choir anthem yesterday! What a powerful message. Mark and I have actually seen the Pieta` sculpture by Michelangelo at the Vatican in Italy. It is amazing and heart wrenching. The idea of watching your child suffer and die with no power to do anything at all is unfathomable to me. May God continually remind me that He is willing to give up everything for me (not because I deserve it or because I am worthy) but because He is my Creator and my Shepherd. Amen! I am praying for all of you this week; pray for each other, too. Blessings, Leigh *The Armor of God Bible study will begin on April 7. Everyone is welcome! *This Sunday, March 20, is Palm Sunday. Our children are invited to be a part of the annual Palm Processional. The Singing Sunbeams will help lead us in worship. Thank you, Debbie and Angela for a wonderful meal last night. It is wonderful to have parents and friends interested in our youth and willing to do special things for them! If you are interested in providing a meal for our youth, contact Cindy Elkins or Leigh. Jessica Crutchfield will provide our meal on March 20. Last night our youth examined role models, guides and leaders in our lives. We spent a good deal of time reading Psalm 23 and John 10. Jesus says, I am the good Shepherd. As sheep, our job is to listen, trust, and obey. Pray for our young people as they make difficult decisions and as they seek approval and advice. My prayer is that they will know the Lord as their Shepherd and they will not want for anything more. I look forward to seeing everyone this week for Bible study! March 18 March 19 March 21 March 23 Aaron Clark Betty Easterling Cameron Curtis Rick Johnson MARK YOUR CALENDAR Our summer mission trip will take place July 2-9. Our tasks will center around service, outreach, and light to moderate construction projects. If you are interested in participating, a $50/person deposit is due by March 16. We had a great turn out for the interest meeting yesterday. The final deadline to join the trip is March 31. Please see Leigh Clark if you have questions. The Mission Trip Yard Sale is scheduled for May 4, 5 & 6 at the Rock. Clean out your garage and storage building, your attic and your closet! Sherlene Hall needs your stuff! Remember: your trash is someone else s treasure! CONGRATULATIONS! To Caroline Mullins for her recent accomplishments at the VHSL State Swim meet: 13th place finish in the 200m Freestyle Relay, and 16th place in the 100m Backstroke! To Lily and Emma Snodgrass for their First Place finish in Humorous Duo at the R e g i o n F o r e n s i c s competition. They will compete at State on April 2. The Central Forensics team won Regions! Our youth are involved in so many academic and extra curricular activities this spring (track, baseball, softball, tennis, chorus, band, soccer, 9 o clock club, etc.). Pray for them; encourage them; get out and watch them! The FLOCK loves WBC and they love your support and prayers.
