DAY 1, SESSION 8 READ ISAIAH 45 Write out this week s Scripture Memory Verse: Isaiah 45:7 Q1: LOOK DOWN Read Isaiah 44:24, 28, and 45:1-7. List below what you learn about Cyrus and what you learn about the LORD. Read 2 Chron. 36:22, 23 and Ezra 1:1-4. Who was Cyrus? How was this prophecy fulfilled? Cyrus The LORD Q2: LOOK OUT

Cyrus and Darius the Mede conquered Babylon in 539 BC. Isaiah s prophecy was given over 150 years before this happened. The LORD used Cyrus even though Cyrus didn t know Him (Is. 45:4). What comfort does this give you when looking at world events today? Do you believe God is over what is happening in the nations? Q3: LOOK IN Read Is. 45:6-7. What confidence do you have in your daily life that God is the LORD and there is no other? Are there any things that make you question who He is? How does knowing His characteristics in verse 7 help you remain confident?

DAY 2, SESSION 8 READ ISAIAH 45 Write out this week s Scripture Memory Verse: Isaiah 45:7 Q1: LOOK DOWN Read Isaiah 45:8. Highlight or circle the word righteousness. Do the same in verses 13, 19, 21, 23 and 24. List below what you learn about righteousness from this chapter. Where only is righteousness found? _ Q2: LOOK OUT

What does it mean that God is righteous? How does that impact our view of God today? Q3: LOOK IN Read Deut. 32:4, Ps. 18:30, Ps. 19:7 and Ps. 50:2. What do you learn about God from these verses? How does that help you as you encounter difficult situations this week?

DAY 3, SESSION 8 READ ISAIAH 45 Write out this week s Scripture Memory Verse: Isaiah 45:7 Q1: LOOK DOWN Read Isaiah 45:9-13. What were some of God s people doing? What was the LORD s response? What names does He use for Himself in these verses? (For further study see Jeremiah 18:1-6, Isaiah 64:8 and Romans 9:20-21).

Q2: LOOK OUT What is the difference between pouring our your heart to the Lord and being honest with Him about your questions (e.g. like David in Psalm 42), and quarreling with Him? Q3: LOOK IN What relationship does the LORD have with His people in verse 11? Read Is. 41, 8,9, 43:1, and 44:1-2. What words are used for His people? If you are His, these words describe you! Write a prayer of thanks to the Lord for how He sees you and loves you.

DAY 4, SESSION 8 READ ISAIAH 45 Write out this week s Scripture Memory Verse: Isaiah 45:7 Q1: LOOK DOWN Read Isaiah 45:14-19. What will happen to those who make idols? What do you learn about the LORD? What has He done for Israel? What is the promise for Israel?

Q2: LOOK OUT How would you respond to someone who says God doesn t listen? Read Jer. 29:10-14. This was the promise the exiles of Jerusalem were given. What does it mean to search for Him with all your heart? (See Deut. 4:29). Q3: LOOK IN Do you search for the Lord with all of your heart and soul? What would that look like in your life this week?

DAY 5, SESSION 8 READ ISAIAH 45 Write out this week s Scripture Memory Verse: Isaiah 45:7 Q1: LOOK DOWN Read Isaiah 45:20-25. How does God compare beside idols? What does God ask? What does He say will happen? How does that compare to Phil. 2:9-11 and Rom. 14:11?

Q2: LOOK OUT The LORD says that every knee will box and every tongue will swear allegiance to Him. How does that answer the modern day argument that all gods are the same, no matter what we believe? How would you respond to that statement? Q3: LOOK IN Look back over the chapter and notice how many times it says, there is none other or there is no one else. Is there none other in your life? Does God have your full allegiance? Think about your week, and what would be your top three priorities. Do they include the Lord?

TYING IT ALL TOGETHER What impacted you the most within this week s passage of Isaiah? What one thing will you do this week to apply a lesson learned from the Book of Isaiah? Who will keep you accountable? PRAYER FOR THIS WEEK

WEEK # GROUP DISCUSSION MAIN IDEA: LEAN IN Idolatry is a huge theme in Isaiah. Although we may not physically bow down to wooden idols, there are things in our lives we can inwardly bow to. What idols should we be aware of in our lives today? LOOK DOWN & LIVE IT OUT (OUT/IN) 1. Look Down (question 1, day 5): Read Isaiah 45:20-25. How does God compare beside idols? What does God ask? What does He say will happen? How does that compare to Phil. 2:9-11 and Rom. 14:11? 2. Look Out (question 2, day 5): The LORD says that every knee will box and every tongue will swear allegiance to Him. How does that answer the modern day argument that all gods are the same, no matter what we believe? How would you respond to that statement? 3. Look In (question 3, day 1): Read Is. 45:6-7. What confidence do you have in your daily life that God is the LORD and there is no other? Are there any things that make you question who He is? How does knowing His characteristics in verse 7 help you remain confident? 4. In Your Own Words: Share with your group one action you will take in the next week to continue to walk in the light of the Lord. How can you keep each other accountable? LOOK UP Praise God for. His righteousness His sovereignty His salvation Pray that you would Trust in His ways

Bow down only to Him Seek Him with all your heart SESSION NOTES
