Romans 6 Sin s Power Is Broken 1 Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? 2 Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? 3 Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? 4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. 5 Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. 6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
Romans 6 7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. 8 And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. 9 We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. 10 When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God. 11 So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. 12 Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires.
Romans 6 13 Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. 14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God s grace.
My faithful Father, enduring Friend, Your tender mercy's like a river with no end. It overwhelms me, covers my sin. The path to Christ-likeness
Holiness
Chuck Colson: Holiness (or Christ-likeness) is the everyday business of every Christian. It evidences itself in the decisions we make and the things we do, hour by hour, day by day.
Eugene Peterson: This is a great market for religious experience in our world; there is little enthusiasm for the patient acquisition of virtue, little inclination to sign up for a long apprenticeship in what earlier generations of Christians called holiness.
John Brown: Holiness does not consist in mystic speculations, enthusiastic fervours or uncommanded austerities; it consists in thinking as God thinks and willing as God wills.
* God is a holy God pure and faultless * We are made in His image * We were given freedom of choice so we have become far less than what God had in mind. * The grace of Jesus Christ has opened a door to a new way of living. * We live in the age of the Holy Spirit, who responds to our invitation to partner with Him on a life-long journey to become more and more like God Himself.
Step 1 ASK God Where are You at work in my life right now Lord? What do you want to change next?
Step 2 LISTEN for His answer through the Bible, through a whisper in your thoughts, through someone else, through an experience.
Step 3. INVITE
v.2; v.4; v.5; v.6; v.7; v.11; v.13; v.14; we have died to sin, we also may live new lives. we will also be raised to life our old sinful selves were crucified we were set free Sin is no longer your master now you have new life dead to the power of sin and alive to God Romans 6 NLT
Step 3 is about taking the area of our lives God has told us He wants to change; And then INVITING God to grow HIS character in that place.
God has something far better for us than just an improved person. He wants to grow IN us a NEW person a person in His own image!!
Billy s prayer: Lord, please Lord, make ME more patient!
God says: Billy, your patience is part of the OLD Billy self-centred living is no longer your master.
Billy s new prayer: Lord, please Lord, give me YOUR patience!
Our prayer: Lord, I don t want to be just a better me ; I want more of YOUR character within me; I want to become more like YOU.
* Read more and make a commitment to it * Meditate upon it * Listen to songs that sing it * Walk the mountains and pray it * Write it down and repeat * Talk with others about it * Open you hands and receive it
Lord, please pour more of Yourself into me I invite You to give me Your character so that I might become like You
God can make us, and change us, and use us if we invite Him to.
