Message From The Master Brethren, If you attended our September stated communication you know we honored two Brothers who have attained 25 years of Masonic service. Wor Mark Hockaday and Bro Nick Crowe were given their 25 year Veterans Emblem. Congratulations to these two Brothers for their years of service to our fraternity. Unfortunately we have had one Brother who has had to demit from our Lodge due to family issues. Our membership now stands at 92 members. Chickahominy Lodge No. 286 A.F. & A. M. Chartered February 16, 1905 Trestleboard October, 2015 Our September stated communication was packed with activities before and during the meeting. Mr. Robert Kimsey, son of the late Wor Charles Fred Kimsey, presented the Lodge with a framed picture of his father in his Worshipful Master hat and apron and a Lodge coin with his initiation, passing and raising dates. We are indebted to Mr. Kimsey for this memorable gift and for his thinking of our Lodge when he discovered these two artifacts. Also before the meeting members of the Tidewater Chapter of DeMolay International flawlessly presented a beautiful Ceremony of Light program. During our meeting RW Cleve Wright reported on the Blood Drive program which we help sponsor. Beginning with the November 2014 Drive there have been six (6) Blood Drives and a total of 354 units of blood have been collected. For those of you who can give blood, thank you so much for this life giving donation. And thanks go to RW Cleve Wright who has spearheaded this program for us since 1995. At our October stated communication we return to the dress being coat and tie. That night will be Warden s Night and our line officers will all move up one chair and I will move to the sidelines. Bro Scott Florence, our Worshipful Master next year, will move to the East and Bro Scott has been working hard to learn all the ritual he needs to know to prepare him for leading our Lodge next year. Come on out to our October stated communication and watch next year s officers show their talent. P.O. Box 464 7886 Richmond Road Toano, VA 23168 Stated Communication: 2 nd Tuesday, 7:30 P.M. www.chickahominy286.org We have moved our October breakfast to the first Saturday of the month, October 3 rd due to MAHOVA Family Day being on the second Saturday, October 10 th. Message From The Master cont d The Chickahominy Roadrunner s 2015 schedule is available on page 3. It is also on our Website. On September 12 th ten of us traveled to Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4 for their annual Table Lodge. I was honored by being asked to respond to the toast of traveling Brethren. We finished our visit in Fredericksburg by stopping by Carl s for some tasty custard. Our next visit will be to Lancaster Union Lodge No. 88 on October 8 th. An email will be sent out prior to this visit. Consider traveling with us to this Lodge if you can. Sometimes on these visits I find people from my past who I was not aware were even Masons. It is a lot of fun Brethren to visit other Lodges. Regrettably, Bro Harrie Parker, a Fellowcraft, laid down his working tools on September 21 st. Bro Parker was a regular at our dinners and always wanted to help in any way he could. We were looking forward to the day we raised Bro Parker so he could attend our stated communications and hopefully visit other Lodges with us. He would have been an excellent Master Mason. Bro Parker s wife, Pat, was glad we had his Masonic Apron and Bible and I will be delivering them to her soon. I know Bro Parker was glad to be going through the degrees in Masonry and looked forward to the day he would be raised. Please keep his family in your prayers. Our annual Pig Picking dinner for all members of the Lodge and their families will be Friday evening, October 23 rd. It is a free dinner and a great chance to socialize with your Brethren and their families. Come on out and join us for this delicious and fun evening. An email announcing this dinner will be sent out with more details. I would like to encourage each of you who have not already taken the Masonic correspondence courses to take them. You learn a lot of useful information about our craft that will help you on your Masonic journey particularly if you want to go through the chairs. These courses can be taken online in the comfort of your home and you receive a certificate suitable for framing for each course completed. Let me know if you want more information about them. We retrieved the Traveling Trowel from Williamsburg Lodge No. 6 on September 14 th and it looks beautiful hanging in our Lodge. OFFICERS 2015 Worshipful Master Harold W. SPECIAL NOTICES & ANNOUNCEMENTS Our October Lodge breakfast will be moved to the first Saturday in October, October 3 rd, due to the second Saturday in October being MAHOVA Family Day. Signs have been posted in the dining hall so tell all of your friends who come to our breakfasts about this change. Second invoices for 2015 dues were mailed June 5 th. As of this date there are still nine (9) Brothers who have not paid their dues. If you have not already done so Brethren please send in your dues payment. Sending follow-up dues notices is additional, unnecessary work for our Secretary so please send in your dues payment. We should not have to and do not want to have to constantly remind Lodge Brothers to pay their dues. It is your Masonic duty to pay your dues. I would like to be able to report that all Brethren have paid their dues for the year. If you are in dire financial straits and have difficulty paying your dues contact Wor Bo Bohannon. All petitioners must receive a background check before they can be balloted on. Cost for this check is $20.00 in addition to the Petition fee of $50.00 and a Disclosure and Consent form must be completed by the petitioner in addition to the Petition. Our LIW, Wor Ted Holm is continuing a Warden s Certificate class on Sunday afternoons from 3:00 5:00 p. m. This class is for those who are close to moving into the East but any Master Masons can attend. We are grateful to have Wor Ted in our Lodge and grateful for his enthusiasm for teaching our members their catechisms and our officers their parts. Page 4 of 6
