This Sabbath boys and girls, we will end with Part 4 of our lesson entitle, A Night on the Lake in our study book Desire of Ages! Isaiah 43:1 (KJV) But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called [thee] by thy name; thou [art] mine. Isaiah 43:2 (KJV) When thou passest through the waters, I [will be] with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. Isaiah 43:3 (KJV) For I [am] the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt [for] thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. 2 Timothy 1:12 (KJV) For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. John 6:21 (KJV) Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went. Matthew 14:32(KJV) And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Matthew 14:33 (KJV) Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. Mark 6:53 (KJV) And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore. Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#189 (7.30.16) Page 1
Let s continue in our book Desire of Ages, Chapter #40, pages 381-382 Walking side by side, Peter's hand in that of his Master, they stepped into the boat together. But Peter was now subdued and silent. He had no reason to boast over his fellows, for through unbelief and self-exaltation he had very nearly lost his life. When he turned his eyes from Jesus, his footing was lost, and he sank amid the waves. {DA 381.6} Question: After Peter and His Master stepped into the boat together what was his reaction? And, what had caused Peter to very nearly lose his life? Answer: Peter was now subdued and silent; he had no reason to boast over his fellows. And, through unbelief and self-exaltation he had very nearly lost his life. When he turned his eyes from Jesus, his footing was lost, and he sank amid the waves. When trouble comes upon us, how often we are like Peter! We look upon the waves, instead of keeping our eyes fixed upon the Saviour. Our footsteps slide, and the proud waters go over our souls. Jesus did not bid Peter come to Him that he should perish; He does not call us to follow Him, and then forsake us. Fear not, He says; for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art Mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour. Isaiah 43:1-3. {DA 382.1} Question: What will keep us from falling when trouble comes upon us like Peter? And, why did Jesus bid Peter come to Him? Answer: Our eyes must be fixed upon the Saviour and not look upon the waves or our footsteps would slide, the proud waters will go over our souls. And, He did not bid Peter come to Him that he should perish; He does not call us to follow Him, to forsake us. He bid us all, Fear not, He says; for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art Mine. Song: let s learn our first scripture song together dear ones from the book of Isaiah! Isaiah 43:1-2 (KJV) Margin.. O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called [thee] by thy name; thou [art] mine. When thou passest through the waters, I [will be] with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called [thee] by thy name; thou [art] mine. Jesus read the character of His disciples. He knew how sorely their faith was to be tried. In this incident on the sea He desired to reveal to Peter his own weakness,--to show that his safety was in constant dependence upon divine power. Amid the storms of temptation he could walk safely only as in utter self-distrust he should rely upon the Saviour. It was on the point where he thought himself strong that Peter was weak; and not until he discerned his weakness could he realize his need of dependence upon Christ. Had he learned the lesson that Jesus sought to teach him in that experience on the sea, he would not have failed when the great test came upon him. {DA 382.2} Question: How sorely did Jesus know the faith of the disciples were to be tried? And, where did Peter s ability to walk safely on the water come from? Answer: Jesus read the character of His disciples; He desired to reveal to Peter his own weakness,--to show that his safety was in constant dependence upon divine power. And, amid the storms of temptation he could walk safely only as in utter self-distrust he should rely upon the Saviour. Song: Let s learn another beautiful son together dear ones that teaches us how to stand in Him! Like the sea That never will be moved am I (2 xs) Like the Stars That time will never alter All my trust will be, Oh Lord, in Thee! In Thy Love (3 xs) My Faith will never falter (2 xs) Like The Sea Like the Mountain Standing firm and true am I Like the Trees The wind will not be bending, I will still be found On faithful ground In thy Word My hope is never ending Here, Lord am I Here s Thy servant. Whisper Thy Will; Thy will is my command. All my trust will be, On Lord, in Thee! In Thy Love My Faith will never falter. Day by day God instructs His children. By the circumstances of the daily life He is preparing them to act their part upon that wider stage to which His providence has appointed them. It is the issue of the daily test that determines their victory or defeat in life's great crisis. {DA 382.3} Question: How often does God instruct His children? And, what determines their victory or defeat in life's great crisis. Answer: Day by day! By the circumstances of the daily life He is preparing them to act their part upon that wider stage to which His providence has appointed them. And, it is the issue of the daily test. Those who fail to realize their constant dependence upon God will be overcome by temptation. We may now suppose that our feet stand secure, and that we shall never be moved. We may say with confidence, "I know in whom I have believed; nothing can shake my faith in God and in His word." But Satan is planning to take advantage of our hereditary and cultivated traits of character, and to blind our eyes to our own necessities and defects. Only through realizing our own weakness and looking steadfastly unto Jesus can we walk securely. {DA 382.4} Question: Who will be overcome by temptation? And, how does Satan take advantage to blind our eyes to our own necessities and defects and what is our only hope? Answer: Those who fail to realize their constant dependence upon God. And, by our hereditary and cultivated traits of character; only through realizing our own weakness and looking steadfastly unto Jesus can we walk securely. Song: Let s learn a beautiful hymn together dear one that teaches us in who we find strength, Day by Day! Day by day, and with each passing moment, Strength I find, to meet my trials here; Trusting in my Father s wise bestowment, I ve no cause for worry or for fear. He Whose heart is kind beyond all measure Gives unto each day what He deems best Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure, Mingling toil with peace and rest. Day by Day Hymn#532 Help me then in every tribulation So to trust Thy promises, O Lord, That I lose not faith s sweet consolation Offered me within Thy holy Word. Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting, Ever to take, as from a father s hand, One by one, the days, the moments fleeting, Till I reach the promised land. http://cyberhymnal.org/htm/d/a/daybyday.htm Every day, the Lord Himself is near me With a special mercy for each hour; All my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me, He Whose Name is Counselor and Power; The protection of His child and treasure Is a charge that on Himself He laid; As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure, This the pledge to me He made. No sooner had Jesus taken His place in the boat than the wind ceased, "and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went." The night of horror was succeeded by the light of dawn. The disciples, and others who also were on board, bowed at the feet of Jesus with thankful hearts, saying, "Of a truth Thou art the Son of God!" {DA 382.5} Question: After the wind ceased, as the horror was succeeded by the light of dawn, how did the disciples respond? Answer: The disciples, and others who also were on board, bowed at the feet of Jesus with thankful hearts, saying, Of a truth Thou art the Son of God! Gather the little ones together! It s Story Time! Our book selection this Sabbath is entitle, Sons and Daughters of God Chapter 4-Transformed by the Renewing of the Mind And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2. {SD 105.1} Will men and women consider how God regards the creatures He has made? He formed man's mind. We do not think one noble thought that does not come from Him. He knows all the mysterious workings of human mind; for did He not make it? God sees that sin has debased and degraded man, but He looks upon him with pity and compassion; for He sees that Satan has him in his power. {SD 105.2} All true reformation begins with soul-cleansing. It is by the washing of regeneration and the renewing of the mind through the power of the Holy Spirit, that a change is wrought in the life. {SD 105.3} By beholding Christ we become changed. If the mind dwells upon temporal things constantly, these things become all-absorbing, affecting the character, so that God's glory is lost sight of and forgotten. The opportunities that are within reach for them to become conversant with heavenly things, are overlooked. Spiritual life dies.... {SD 105.4} Make God your entire dependence. When you do otherwise, then it is time for a halt to be called. Stop right where you are, and change the order of things.... In sincerity, in soulhunger, cry after God. Wrestle with the heavenly agencies until you have the victory. Put your whole being into the Lord's hands soul, body, and spirit, and resolve to be His loving, consecrated agency, moved by His will, controlled by His mind, infused by His Spirit... then you will see heavenly things clearly. {SD 105.5} If we would permit our minds to dwell more upon Christ and the heavenly world, we should find a powerful stimulus and support in fighting the battles of the Lord. Pride and love of the world will lose their power as we contemplate the glories of that better land so soon to be our home. Beside the loveliness of Christ, all earthly attractions will seem of little worth. {SD 105.6} Next Week: We will begin a new chapter of lesson entitle, The Crisis in Galilee of our book Desire of Ages Closing Prayer request one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer.
