AROUND THE PARISH As of April 15, 2015 St. Alban s seeks to be a welcoming Christ-centered community committed to sharing Christ love empowering people to grow spiritually, deepening our relationship with Christ and living out our faith in the community and the world. Our Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops were on hand, along with many of their parents. Some were trimming, some raking up cuttings, some spreading gravel or mulch all of them generously giving of themselves and their work to benefit St. Alban s. Boy Scout Troop 300 donated $300 for gravel to spread in the parking lot between the church and Annex. Lee Forsberg did an amazing job organizing the entire effort. He broke the outside area into six divisions which made it much easier for each crew to concentrate on specifics. Lee personally wants to thank each and every person who worked so hard to clean up and beautify the church grounds. The job simply couldn t have been done without all the help! PLANNING AHEAD Saturday, May 28 Save the date of May 28 for an ECW gathering either a coffee hour or a luncheon. This is a great opportunity for fellowship with other members and a chance to meet those you may not know. More information will follow PARISH DIRECTORY UPDATES Correction: Jim Gilman Zip Code: 98026 Add: Joan Longstaff/Larry Hudson 524 Main St Edmonds, WA 98020 Cell: 425-773-1274 EM: joan@joanlongstaff.com WE RE EARLY!!! The ATP is early this issue to provide you with timely service information. The next issue will be the end of April. LOSS OF A LOVING SISTER On April 3 rd a long time parishioner, Margaret Ainsley, went to be with our Lord and her husband Rev. Bert. A service is being planned for later and will be announced in the bulletin. Father Bob and Margaret s eight children were at her side when she passed. Margaret was very active on the Altar Guild and in the life of St. Alban s. She had moved to California a couple of years ago but had moved back to Washington recently.

A Note from Father Bob: Christ IS Risen The Lord IS Risen Indeed! Having been with you through the grand celebration of Christmas and the wonder of Holy Week and the Day of Resurrection, I know a few things about my new church family. First - You ARE Holy People. The strength of prayer amongst the celebrations is palpable. As a congregation, you have walked with the families of those who have died, were ill, or in some way struggling with the hardships of life. Second - You provided care for those in need in our larger community and touched the lives of those who may never worship with us, yet are given to us by God. Third You know how to celebrate. Our worship, along with our fellowship gatherings, have been offered to God and blessed by God. We now enter the Easter Season, from now to May 17 th. There will be unique and fun worship opportunities like Kirkin o the Tartan on April 12 th, Earth Day on April 19 th and Mother s Day on May 10 th. There are also plans to have a monthly soup supper style fellowship and conversation about an interesting subject. (Stay tuned; more later.) Plans are being made for what I think is the most entertaining worship service of the year Pentecost on May 24 th. (Should worship be entertaining?) Circle this date in your calendar and save it for St. Alban s. Yes, I know it is Memorial Day Weekend, but why not bless the holiday by celebrating the Birthday of the Church? In fact.why not bless all of Spring and Summer by committing ourselves to giving praise to Jesus? Wherever we are, let us commit ourselves to intentionally giving praise to God. Your brother in Christ, Fr. Bob ATTENDANCE FOR HOLY WEEK: 2014 2015 Ash Wednesday 28 49 Palm Sunday 54 90 Tenebrae 16 18 Maundy Thursday 20 38 Good Friday 19 24 Easter 124 132 These are figures of the combined services. ALTAR GUILD & EASTER BLESSINGS Many hands and hearts provided a very meaningful and beautiful week of services at St. Alban s Tenebrae, Maundy Thursday, Stations of the Cross and a joyous Easter morning. Thanks go to Altar Guild for the lovely spring-like flowers and to the parishioners who donated those flowers. Dave Hoffman made arranging the flowers much easier by building shelves for us. (In the past, Altar Guild members have had to make do with boxes and boards.) And a very special Thank You to Sharon Joy who spent a lot of time painstakingly putting together the little bundles of flowers for the Flowering of the Cross. Fr. Bob and Deacon Jenny gave us services full of tradition, meaning, hope and joy.

CELEBRATION OF HOLY WEEK AND EASTER Many deeply felt words of appreciation for the people who made it possible for St. Alban s to celebrate Holy Week and Easter in such a grand way. Thanks to JoAn Andenes who planned music for all of the services and performed beautifully. Our worship was greatly enhanced by her skill and her spiritual life. Altar Guild went far beyond all expectation with many creative ideas for all services. Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors turned out with great commitment to all of the worship, and the Tenebrae team was inspired. Emily Goergen is a very talented acolyte who served faithfully. Sam Wells did a great job with the candles during the Tenebrae Service. And thanks to Evie Arneson and Nonie Swaim the coffee and social times were filled with food and fun. The Easter egg hunt was well organized and lots of fun, thanks to Melissa Hicks. Both Fr. Bob Dunn and Deacon Jenny Vervynck enjoyed all the support. Congratulations to Lila Finnell and her parents Dave and Edie, upon the occasion of her Baptism on Easter morning. It was wonderful to see all of the children around the font to celebrate and remember their own baptisms. KIRKIN O THE TARTAN Sunday, April 12 th, 1:30pm Kirkin o the Tartan started during World War II by the Rev. Peter Marshall, who was chaplain of the U.S. Senate. It began as a way for Scottish-Americans to show their pride during the war. The service dates back to the 1716 Disarming Act and the 1746 Act of Proscription that forbade Scottish Highlanders from wearing their tartans, speaking Gaelic and playing bagpipes and dancing. During church services, the Highlanders would touch a piece of cloth that represented their Clan while ministers would deliver a blessing. Kirk is the Scots word for church, and the Tartan is the plaid showing the person s Scottish Clan. Let s enjoy this Sunday after Easter with some Scottish revelry. All are invited! I am proud to represent the Henderson Clan. Our service will include a procession and an opportunity to bless the Tartan. You are invited to bring a symbol of your Scots heritage. Fr. Bob ST. ALBAN S OUTREACH DONATIONS On the third Sunday of the month, we collect donations for outreach. The Vestry is implementing a new approach to how we distribute these outreach funds. We want to provide members of the congregation an opportunity to recommend a charity to receive the money we collect on a

quarterly basis. Special consideration will be given to organizations supported with time or treasure by members of our congregation and to local charities. We would like to invite a representative of the charity to be present at one of our services, if possible, to receive the check and have an opportunity to share with us more about the ministry we are supporting. We are also interested in having parishioners participate with us in selecting these ministries. Please complete the form, available in the Parish Hall, with your recommendation(s) and also indicate your interest in participating in the selection process. Place the form in the designated box by May 1 st. We plan to select our recipient for the first quarter and announce our recipient for the 2 nd quarter by May 15 th. Any questions, contact Maryellen Young, Carrie Cone or Kären Ford. BASEBALL WITH THE BISHOP Saturday, May 30 th at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. GOSPEL REFLECTIONS April 12, Easter 2 What a directive for stewards we have today, grant that all who have been reborn into the fellowship of Christ s body may show forth in their lives what they profess by their faith. How is our professing going? April 19 Easter 3 Psalm 4:6 says, Many are saying, Oh, that we might see better times! Lift up the light of your countenance upon us, O Lord. There is an old saying If God seems far away, guess who s moved? As faithful stewards, we need to learn to stay close to God and to worship and thank Him at all times for all things. Who knows what better times that might bring or how we might become much more aware of the light of his countenance in our lives? April 26 Easter 4 Hired hand or shepherd? Jesus says the hired hand runs away because he does not really care for the sheep. The shepherd, on the other hand, will lay down his own life for his flock. Do we run away from service to others, or are we willing to give of our own lives in the name of the God who loves us, and gave His all for us?
