Text: John 21 INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Meditation 1 Announcements 4 Weekday Ministries 6 Worship 7 Poetry 8 Bethany III 3 April 2016 Holy Communion Sunday! MICA (P) No.: 030/10/2012 MEDITATION Rev Dr Charles Tan THE WORK OF RESTORATION HARD LESSONS The disciples of the Lord Jesus realized that the lessons Jesus sought to teach them were not easy lessons to learn. Bible Memory Work 9 This Week @ Worship 11 (continued on page 2)

MEDITATION (Continued from page 1) 1. It was hard to develop faith 2. And without faith they could be defeated in ministry 3. There were so many lessons that Jesus taught and they barely mastered any one well FAILURES These were failures experienced by the Disciples. They must have been really hard-hit as they faced up to the reality of the full-time ministry! 1. They had to learn how to be prayerful 2. They had to know the Scriptures well 3. They had to learn how to preach 4. They were expected to have great faith Three years had passed and they had mastered none of the above! How could they ever succeed in ministry? They realized that sincerity was not enough for success! THE LAST STRAW Then came the day when Jesus was arrested and sentenced to death by crucifixion. 1. Peter had denied the Lord openly 2. All the disciples had fled (Continued on page 3) page 2

MEDITATION (Continued from page 2) This looked like the last straw! Peter decided that he was going to return to his fishing job! His decision influenced his friends and they too thought it best to give up on following the Lord Jesus. They felt that they had committed the worst sin ever! How could there be forgiveness after denying and deserting the Lord Jesus Christ? THE RESTORATION PROCESS The Lord Jesus loved His disciples, and after His Resurrection He sought to restore them. This was His love and His commitment to His disciples! 1. He sought His disciples a) He knew them b) The disciples were not yet a homogenous group c) He reached out to them individually 2. The group of fishermen a) Jesus found them in their old fishing ground b) He sought to restore them c) He did restore all the disciples except Judas who had committed suicide AN INVITATION TO BE RESTORED We too may feel that we have failed the Lord. We have sinned against Him and walked in the way of the world. But we can return to the Lord. The Lord will restore fully if we are willing to return to Him! Write to me at: charlestan@bethanyipc.sg page 3

Mark 14:22 The Cup Then He took the cup, and when He had given thanks He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. And He said to them, This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many. Mark 14:23-24 WORSHIP AT SHANGRI LA Our worship today and next Sunday will be at Shangri La. POETRY CORNER RESTORED, I PARTAKE OF COMMUNION AGAIN Backsliding, and far away from God I stayed away from the Lord s Table, A sense of unworthiness, a great sense of guilt, they greatly disabled. How could I partake of somethings so precious and so sacred and holy? Now I am restored, I am able to come to the Lord s table, gratefully. I examine my heart, and I know that I have grieved the Lord because of sin, But I am reminded of how Jesus shed His blood, to cleanse me, deep within! I come to the Lord s Table now, with a sense of new and holy appreciation, I partake with great consciousness of the Lord s great love and compassion. The Bread, His Body, which I partake of today, was cruelly broken to save my soul, Cruel hands broke His Body, but this was done, that I may truly be made whole! The Cup which I partake of, represents His precious blood shed for me, I ponder, and tears come, that His blood had to be shed on dark Calvary! Jesus died that my sins may all be forgiven, and I did not know how to appreciate, The dreadful sins that drew me away, these sins, my soul now detests and hates! Restored, forgiven, no longer would I willfully roam from the fold of the Lord, Reinstated, reassured, I commune now with my wonderful Father-God! Inspiration: John 20 Charles Tan page 8

PASTORAL LETTER Dear Brethren, 3 April 2016 POST-EASTER The Risen Saviour continued to meet with His disciples after His resurrection. There were several reasons why He met with them: - 1. Confirmation a) To confirm that He had indeed risen from the dead b) To allay any doubts about the reality of His resurrection Senior Pastor : Rev Dr Charles Tan Mailing Address : 301, Upper Paya Lebar Road. Singapore 534934 Tel : (65) 62877713 Fax : (65) 62877980 Website : www.bethanyipc.sg 2. Challenge a) To bear witness of His resurrection b) To reach out to many who had not come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ i) In Jerusalem ii) In Judea iii) In Samaria iv) To the uttermost part of the world ON THE PART OF THE DISCIPLES There were many problems that had to be addressed. Among others, the following had to be resolved. Our challenges are not dissimilar! 1. Fears These must go! They must not return. 2. Failure This must be a thing of the past! They must look forward to the future with confidence! 3. Faith This must now be stronger. This faith must be further developed! 4. Future The Apostles must focus on developing a Church. Prayerfully, Pastor Charlie God s kind of Church where God is touching lives and people care for people
