Amazing Spirit, Amazing Grace 18th SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST September 26 & 27, 2015

Ebenezer Lutheran Church Port Hudson The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod 9100 Highway YY Leslie, Missouri Parsonage 573-459-6432 Church 573-459-6431 Rev. William F. Zastrow, Pastor Mary Sprick, Secretary ebenezerlutheran@hotmail.com ebenezerlutheranchurch.wordpress.com AS WE GATHER: As our gracious Father, God gives His mercy and grace to us in a manner beyond any manner to which we are accustomed: forgiveness for sin, comfort for sadness, life for death. And He daily and richly provides for all our needs of body and soul! Gathered in the name and remembrance of Jesus, our worship fills us with the Spirit and truth of God s Word. Just as your Father shows His grace to you in Word and Sacrament, He also sends you forth to show the world His love in a manner beyond any manner to which the world has grown accustomed. PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP Everlasting Father, giver of everything that is good, send forth Your Spirit of power that we receive Your amazing grace, which is given in a manner more richly and abundantly than any manner to which we are accustomed; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. HYMN Father, We Thank Thee HS98 898 INVOCATION In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. 2

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION We take a moment of silence to reflect on our sin and our need for the Savior. Let us confess our sins to God our Father. Merciful God, Your Spirit convicts us of our sin. We are by nature sinful and have broken Your Law in our thinking, our speaking, and our doing. We have done what You forbid, and we have not done what You desire. By the mercy You show us in the cross of Jesus, cleanse us by Your renewing Spirit. Forgive our sins and strengthen our confidence in You, that we may find mercy and grace to help us in our time of need. Amen. Almighty God in His great mercy has given His Son to die for you and for Jesus sake forgives you all your sins. Upon this your confession, I, as a called and ordained servant of Christ, forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. WORD INTROIT Psalm 51:10 12 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. 3

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. KYRIE In peace let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. For the peace from above, for every daily blessing, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord. Compassionate Lord, have mercy. For the peace of the whole world, for the healing, housing, feeding, and saving ministry of the Church of God in all the earth, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord. Strengthening Lord, have mercy. For this holy house and for all who offer here themselves and all that they are and have in worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord. All-embracing Lord, have mercy. Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord. Amen. HYMN OF PRAISE "This is the Feast of Victory" LW page 161 Refrain: This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! 4

Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain, Whose blood set us free to be people of God? (Refrain) Power, riches, wisdom and strength, And honor blessing and glory are his. (Refrain) Sing with all the people of God And join in the hymn of all creation. Blessing, honor, glory, and might Be to God and the Lamb forever. Amen. (Refrain) For the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign. Alleluia. (Refrain) SALUTATION The Lord be with you. And also with you. PRAYER OF THE DAY Let us pray. Everlasting Father, source of every blessing, mercifully direct and govern us by Your Holy Spirit that we may complete the works You have prepared for us to do; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. OLD TESTAMENT READING Numbers 11:4 6, 10 16, 24 29 (The Lord sets His Spirit on the leaders of God s people.) 5

This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. PSALM Psalm 104:27 35 (All creation looks to and praises the Lord.) These all look to You, to give them their food in due season. When You give it to them, they gather it up; when You open your hand, they are filled with good things. When You hide Your face, they are dismayed; when You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust. When You send forth Your Spirit, they are created, and You renew the face of the ground. May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in His works, who looks on the earth and it trembles, who touches the mountains and they smoke! I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being. May my meditation be pleasing to Him, for I rejoice in the LORD. Let sinners be consumed from the earth, and let the wicked be no more! Bless the Lord, O my soul! Praise the Lord! EPISTLE James 5:13 20 (Prayers offered in faith have great power.) This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. ALLELUIA VERSE Mark 9:23b 6

Alleluia! Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another. Alleluia! HOLY GOSPEL Mark 9:38 50 (Mighty works are done in Jesus name.) chapter. The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the 9th Glory to You, O Lord. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, O Christ. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life + everlasting. Amen.
