NOC GEM & MINERAL SOCIETY NEWS Vol. 35 No, 9 October 2016 President s Message NOC Club Activities by Ofelia Warthen As I see Fall approaching, I start reflecting my own NOC membership of over 30 enjoyable years. The changes have been overwhelming especially getting older. And time for New leadership nominations at our September 21 st general meeting. Nominees were listed in our September 1 st news bulletin. Remember to participate at our October 8 th Quartermania Fundraiser event. See our elaborate Chairman, Beth Smith for tickets. Don and I will be attending the 77th CFMS meetings on September 16-18 in Placerville, Ca. I will bring you back all good happenings! Our September Future Rockhounds Rocks N Rubies had their, back from summer meeting at their new La Habra location. They all enjoyed making their wire wrap bug featuring an amethyst polish stone. Even some NOC grown-up members came & also enjoyed making their precious Bug. Every year at our November general meeting, we have our annual pre-holiday Live and Silent Auction Fundraiser. Starting now, bring in your beautiful and clean donations to our October General meeting. I found most exciting NOC 1985 memorabilia, especially pictures of exciting field trips together with happy potlucks enjoyed by our elder members (see elsewhere in newsletter). These historical events are so important to keep and share with our younger generation. A Historical Chairman is most important to continue our legacy. Many of our past members have left us for a better rock hunting world. But we still have a few life-time members listed in our roster. It would be nice to remember them by sending a thinking about you card. Board Meeting - 6 p.m. 3rd Wed. at La Habra Community Center (none in Jul & Aug) Field Trips - Oct 8-9 Searles Lake Oct 22-23 Whittier Club Claim Area Programs Gold Fever: The mysterious power of gold. Usually we use our Claim as a base of operations for daily field trips to the surrounding collecting areas.he access to the camp area requires unlocking a combination lock and opening a locked gate. The combination is 4321. After you pass through the gate, you must lock it behind NOC NEWS - October 2016 5

Quarter Mania Hello to all our NORTH ORANGE COUNTY GEM AND MINERAL friends. Our October 8 2016 Quarter Mania event is coming along very well, with lots of vendors booked and donations are coming in. I would like to ask all of you if you can to join in on the fun. It is a costume party, Quarter Mania and lunch all rolled into one big party. Costumes are optional of course. But please remember this event is being held at a church so please remember that. So anyone that would like to attend or maybe donate to this great cause please let me know. Also if you would like to donate your time and volunteer and help out that would be great. I would love to see more NOCGMS volunteer at these and other events that are coming our way. Also remember our big Silent auction event coming up on November 9 at our general meeting. This is also a great event that will surely put a smile on everyone s faces.
