INITIATION RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS (RCIA)...he remained in the desert for 40 days... The readings today draw a connection between the Story of Noah, the temptation of Jesus in the desert, and baptism. Recall that Mark s Gospel begins with the appearance of John the Baptist and is immediately followed by the Baptism of Jesus in the river Jordan. From his baptism, the Spirit drives him into the desert for the reading we hear today. We who are baptized, live as Noah did, among others who are not during a period of time in which God is coming in judgment and power. But we are not waiting for rainwater to wash earthly things away. Nor are we merely waiting to renew baptismal vows. Our life as we know it has been caught up in Biblical history. Noah s story is ours just as much as the life, death and resurrection of Christ. Hear and enter this story over these 40 days. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming Catholic and celebrating Baptism, Confirmation and Communion, or if you are from a different denomination and interested in knowing more about being Catholic, please contact Jay Cuasay, Director of Christian Formation at 703-430-0811 ext. 130 or Jay.Cuasay@ctrcc.org.
