Lesson VI Joseph the Stranger (Part 2)* (Genesis 44:1 45:8) Life of Joseph Bellevue Church of Christ Auditorium Class Winter 2018 / 2019

Transcription:

Anger Jas 1:19 (NKJV) So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath (G3709); Jas 1:20 (NKJV) for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Ecc 7:9 (NKJV) Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, For anger rests in the bosom of fools. Pro 19:11 (NKJV) The discretion (G7922) of a man makes him slow to anger, And his glory is to overlook a transgression. Pro 13:15 (NKJV) Good understanding (G7922) gains favor, But the way of the unfaithful is hard. Pro 16:22 (NKJV) Understanding (G7922) is a wellspring of life to him who has it. But the correction of fools is folly. Pro 14:29 (NKJV) He who is slow to wrath has great understanding, But he who is impulsive exalts folly. Pro 15:18 (ESV) A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger quiets contention. Pro 15:1 (ESV) A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Pro 21:24 (KJV) Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.

Unrighteous anger Eph 4:31 (NKJV) Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. Eph 4:32 (NKJV) And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. Col 3:8 (NKJV) But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Gen 4:3 (NKJV) And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. Gen 4:4 (NKJV) Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, Gen 4:5 (NKJV) but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. Gen 4:6 (NKJV) So the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? Gen 4:7 (NKJV) If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it." Gen 4:8 (NKJV) Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. Exo 10:27 (NKJV) But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go. Exo 10:28 (NKJV) Then Pharaoh said to him, "Get away from me! Take heed to yourself and see my face no more! For in the day you see my face you shall die!" Dan 3:12 (NKJV) There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have not paid due regard to

you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up." Dan 3:13 (NKJV) Then Nebuchadnezzar, in rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king. Dan 3:14 (NKJV) Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, "Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up? Dan 3:15 (NKJV) Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?" Dan 3:16 (NKJV) Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. Dan 3:17 (NKJV) If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. Dan 3:18 (NKJV) But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up." Frustration: (H6565) 1. to break, frustrate a. (Hiphil) 1. to break, violate 2. to frustrate, make ineffectual b. (Hophal) 1. to be frustrated 2. to be broken 3. to break c. (Pilpel) to break to bits, shatter

Job 5:12 (NKJV) He frustrates (H6565) the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot carry out their plans. Pro 15:22 (KJV) Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established. Job 16:12 (NKJV) I was at ease, but He has shattered me; He also has taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces; He has set me up for His target, Job 16:13 (NKJV) His archers surround me. He pierces my heart and does not pity; He pours out my gall on the ground. Job 16:14 (NKJV) He breaks me with wound upon wound; He runs at me like a warrior. Job 16:15 (NKJV) "I have sewn sackcloth over my skin, And laid my head in the dust. Job 16:16 (NKJV) My face is flushed from weeping, And on my eyelids is the shadow of death; Job 16:17 (NKJV) Although no violence is in my hands, And my prayer is pure. Isa 44:24 (NKJV) Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, And He who formed you from the womb: "I am the LORD, who makes all things, Who stretches out the heavens all alone, Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself; Isa 44:25 (NKJV) Who frustrates the signs of the babblers, And drives diviners mad; Who turns wise men backward, And makes their knowledge foolishness; Isa 44:26 (NKJV) Who confirms the word of His servant, And performs the counsel of His messengers; Who says to Jerusalem, 'You shall be inhabited,' To the cities of Judah, 'You shall be built,' And I will raise up her waste places;

Proper response: Psa 13:1 (NKJV) To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? Psa 13:2 (NKJV) How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? Psa 13:3 (NKJV) Consider and hear me, O LORD my God; Enlighten my eyes, Lest I sleep the sleep of death; Psa 13:4 (NKJV) Lest my enemy say, "I have prevailed against him"; Lest those who trouble me rejoice when I am moved. Psa 13:5 (NKJV) But I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. Psa 13:6 (NKJV) I will sing to the LORD, Because He has dealt bountifully with me. Psa 35:17 (NKJV) Lord, how long will You look on? Rescue me from their destructions, My precious life from the lions. Psa 35:18 (NKJV) I will give You thanks in the great assembly; I will praise You among many people. Psa 35:19 (NKJV) Let them not rejoice over me who are wrongfully my enemies; Nor let them wink with the eye who hate me without a cause. Psa 35:20 (NKJV) For they do not speak peace, But they devise deceitful matters Against the quiet ones in the land. 1Pe 2:19 (NKJV) For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully. 1Pe 2:20 (NKJV) For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.

Psa 42:9 (NKJV) I will say to God my Rock, "Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?" Psa 42:10 (NKJV) As with a breaking of my bones, My enemies reproach me, While they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?" Psa 42:11 (NKJV) Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God. Jas 1:2 (NKJV) My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, Jas 1:3 (NKJV) knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. Jas 1:4 (NKJV) But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 2Co 1:6 (NKJV) Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. http://tryingthespirits.com/2014-01/patience-3/ Gen 45:4 (ESV) So Joseph said to his brothers, Come near to me, please. And they came near. And he said, I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. Gen 45:5 (ESV) And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. Gen 45:6 (ESV) For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest.

Gen 45:7 (ESV) And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. Righteous anger Psa 7:11 (NKJV) God is a just judge, And God is angry {with the wicked} every day. with the wicked is not in the original text. Pro 8:13 (NKJV) The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate. Psa 97:10 (NKJV) You who love the LORD, hate evil! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked. Rom 12:9 (NKJV) Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Eph 4:26 (NKJV) "BE ANGRY, AND DO NOT SIN": do not let the sun go down on your wrath, http://tryingthespirits.com/2014-07/ephesians-426/ Mar 3:5 (NKJV) And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. Rom 3:5 (NKJV) But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unjust who inflicts wrath? (I speak as a man.)

Col 3:6 (NKJV) Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, Col 3:7 (NKJV) in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. Jdg 1:7 (NKJV) And Adoni-Bezek said, "Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to gather scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has repaid me." Then they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died. 1Th 5:8 (NKJV) But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. 1Th 5:9 (NKJV) For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 1Th 1:9 (NKJV) For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, http://www.iswasandwillbe.com/concerning-thumos-versus-orgewrath-are-we-children-of-wrath/ References: Cain slaying Abel Gen 4:5-8 Simeon and Levi, on account of the humbling of their sister, Dinah Gen 49:5-7 Pharaoh, toward Moses Exo 10:11; Exo 10:28 Moses, toward Pharaoh Exo 11:8; Num 20:10-11 Balaam, toward his ass
