Liturgy January 7, 2018, The Epiphany of the Lord (Solemnity) Arise! Shine, for your light has come. (Isaiah 60:1) What extravagant promises this reading contains! The prophet speaks of splendor, glory, radiance, and overflowing heart, and the wealth of nations. And who first heard these glowing words? Exiled Jews who had just recently returned to a Jerusalem in ruins. Somehow, the words of the prophet didn t quite match up with the realities on the ground. But that didn t stop these believers from rolling up their sleeves and working to bring about the glory that had been promised to them. Similarly, how did the Magi recognize an earth-shaking event in the humble stable with Joseph and Mary? Even the religious and political leaders of Israel missed the birth of the Messiah. So how could these pagan foreigners fall to their knees so readily, and offer such valuable treasures to this lowly child? Again, their expectations didn t match up with what they found when they first laid eyes on the Holy Family. Like the Magi and the returning exiles, we have been given great and precious promises not only about a heavenly kingdom, but also about God s rule breaking into our world here and now. But how will that happen? Much of it depends on God s timing, but a lot depends on us. Every day, God invites us to roll up our sleeves and get to work building his kingdom. Every day, he reassures us that even our smallest acts of love contain within themselves the splendor and glory of heaven. Today s feast tells us that the glory of God can be present in the most hidden and unlikely people and situations. It tells us that God is there in the everyday rhythms of our lives. May he give us eyes of faith to see him and trusting hearts to build the kingdom with him. The results will be spectacular! Thank you, Father, for the way you have traveled with us so far, and for the journey that lies ahead. Psalm 72:1-2, 7-8, 10-13 Ephesians 3:2-3, 5-6 Matthew 2:1-12 January 14, 2018 Next Week s Readings Year B 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time 1st Reading 1 Samuel 3:3b 10, 19 Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. Psalm 40 Here am I Lord; I come to do your will. 2nd Reading 1 Corinthians 6:13c-15a, 17-20 Your bodies are members of Christ. Gospel John 1:35-42 They saw where he was staying and they stayed with him. Two of the readings today involved a call from the Lord. Samuel awakens to a summons from God, though it takes a few attempts and some advice from Eli in order to respond appropriately. The first disciples follow Jesus after John the Baptist points him out, Behold the Lamb of God. These are the same words we hear before Communion. The Lord continually calls to us. How do we respond? Stations of the Cross will be on January 10, at 7pm in the church. Catholic Cemeteries We remember and give thanks at our regular Eucharistic celebrations for all of those who have died. Rachel s Corner Hope and Healing After Abortion The angel said to them, Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people... in the city of David a Savior has been born for you, who is Messiah and Lord. - Luke 2:10-11 May the unending love of Our Savior fill your heart with hope, grace and peace this Christmas. Do not be afraid. We can help you on a Rachel s Vineyard retreat. March 9-11, 2018 Seabeck WA Call Valerie: 1-800-822-HOPE (4673) You are loved with an everlasting Love! Project Rachel is a program of Catholic Community Services. We re coming to the end of the Christmas season, with it s frenzy of gift giving and getting. The practical experience of whether it s more blessed to give than to receive is fresh in our minds. Do you find it helpful when those hard-to-buy-for people in your family give you a list? I m about 75 days into a Bible in One Year reading program, and I have a hunch forming. I think I know what God s fondest desire is. In other words, if God were to give us a Christmas list, I think I know what would be on His list. I ve seen the same idea expressed by God several places in the Bible. In fact, I m starting to keep a list: I will place my law within them, and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jeremiah 31:33 NABRE From their bodies I will remove the hearts of stone, and give them hearts of flesh, so that they walk according to my statutes, taking care to keep my ordinances. Thus they will be my people, and I will be their God. Ezekiel 11:19-20 NABRE I will bring the one third through the fire; I will refine them as one refines silver, and I will test them as one tests gold. They will call upon my name, and I will answer them; I will say, They are my people, and they will say, The LORD is my God. Zechariah 13:9 NABRE Behold, God s dwelling is with the human race. He will dwell with them and they will be his people and God himself will always be with them [as their God]. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, [for] the old order has passed away. Revelation 21:3-4 NABRE I think each one of us has the opportunity to gift God his fondest desire. It s as simple as this short little prayer: Abba, Father in heaven, I love you and I give you this gift: I will be your people, and you are my God. I turn my heart to you. Help me become the person you created me to be. Amen. If you have prayer nuggets you d like to share with the parish, email Bill Marty, bill@takenroad.com. March for Life Olympia Washington State Capitol 416 Sid Snyder Ave SW Olympia, Washington 98504 United States Start Date: Jan. 22nd, 2018 Mass for Life: 9:30am @ St. Martins University, Lacey Start Time for March: 12:00pm - End Time: 3:00pm Washington State March for Life. We will be gathering at the state capitol in Olympia at Noon, as we have for the last 40 years! We remember the past as we COMMEMORATE the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, January 22, 1973. We FOCUS on what we can do right now to help women and babies in crisis. And, we look with HOPE to the future when abortion will be unthinkable for all!

Greetings and Blessings of the New Year! Happy New Year to you all! Our community surely has a lot to thank God for! He has really favored us by His numerous blessings this past calendar year! All for His greater glory!! As we focus on our mission and ministries this year; and especially on "the call to express our faith in action", we again humbly rely on his Divine providence and guidance in all what we set out to do, and especially the remodeling of our already earmarked facilities. And as we love saying in Africa..."In His name, it shall all be well with us." In this new year, I again commend you all into the loving hands of our Blessed Mother. I likewise commend into her hands all our plans and ministries...especially our school, which is one of our greatest ministries. I ask of her intercessions for all of us. I pray that we all continue to love and support all the ministries of our parish. In the coming few weeks, I will preach on - and remind all of us - on the need to continue making our sacrificial giving joyfully for the support of our parish. BARAKA YA YESU NA MWAKA MPYA NJEMA!!
