It s summer! Traditionally it is a time to relax, enjoy the warm days and get renewed. Although, I notice some people are busier now than in the winter months of hibernation. Whether you re busy or relaxing certainly the summer months bring a change in schedule and different activities. At church too we change things up a bit. Our regular Sunday worship services are more informal and interactive. This summer I m excited to let you know that we will be doing two special series. The first is on the book of Job (June 5 July 10). Job can be a difficult book to read and to understand as he faces a multitude of problems and seems to be forgotten by God. We ll look at Job, his life, his friends, and his relationship with God. Also, we ll listen closely to what God says to Job. We all have times of intense struggle in our lives. What can these ancient writings say to us today? We ll follow Job with a celebration of Vacation Bible School on July 17. It will be a fun Sunday that celebrates what the children learned for the week and exposes us adults to fun new songs. The second series this summer will be on the Lord s Prayer (July 24-August 21). We say it every week in church, in our own prayer lives, and other special occasions. It s one prayer that unites among Christian denominations. What are we really asking God for when we say this prayer? What are some other ways of expressing thoughts? Maybe we ll even write (or draw) our own Friedens Peace version of the Lord s Prayer. If you have questions let me know and we ll work them into the series. We ll follow the Lord s Prayer series with our fun and inspirational outdoor worship at Broemmelsiek Park on August 28. And then we begin the fall with 3 weeks focused on mission leading to our Faith in Action weekend. Church doesn t stop just because the kids are out of school. And God doesn t stop loving us just because it s summer. Know God s love, Christ s peace, and the Spirit s energy are with you wherever you go. Many Blessings, Pastor Karen Summer Readings 6/5/2016: Job 1:1-22 (Luke 17:5-6) 6/12/2016: Job 3:1-10; 4:1-9; 7:11-21 (Luke 17:20-21) 6/19/2016: Job 14:7-15; 19:23-27 (John 12:24) 6/26/2016: Job 31:35-37; 38:1-11 (John 6:16-20) 7/3/2016: Job 38:25-27; 41:1-8; 42:1-6 (Matt 7:7-8) 7/10/2016: Job 42:7-17 (Luke 6:20-23) 7/24-8/21 Luke 11:2-4 and Matt 6:9-13
