FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH OF BENZONIA UCC July 2018 Hello My Fellow Travelers, This past Sunday I spoke about peace. Not so much as to where we can find it but intentionally seeking peace, calming our hearts so that we may hear and speak more clearly. Later in the day I was scrolling through the wonderful land of Facebook and came to a post from my brother Chip. His post: What brings you peace of mind? I d really like to know. This kind of shocked me. This particular brother tends not to ask questions or make comments. Chip is the one that posts pictures of all the comfort food coming out of his kitchen. Intrigued I scrolled down through the responses. There were several that I could relate to. These answers ranged from walking in the woods to sitting beside water, in all forms, baking, music, sewing, and sitting quietly to watch the natural world unfold around them. One friend of his responded with going to the firing range. This led Chip to post about our family fun of firing 18 th century artillery. There was one response of family which garnered a reply from another, not my family!, Chip s response, We all have one! Family of birth or family of choice. We all have one. Out of all of these responses my brother posted a positive response. I have to admit that one of those responses was the ambiguous and vague interesting. The short of this story is that we are all seeking a place of respite, of rest, of peace. It comes in so many different forms. What I appreciated from Chip s post is the positive attitude and reinforcement to the comfort that each person expressed. Even when he may have not listed the same response. There is so much going on in our lives today. From the macro of the world and all of the politics expressed, to our communities and facing the increase of traffic from all of the people that say this space gives them comfort, to our own family and personal turmoil. What brings you peace of mind? Find it, hold on to it. Carry it with you. Implement it. May no one tell you that it is wrong. See you along The Way, Pastor Patty
