Holy Family Parish SAVINGS BALANCE As announced at last weekend s Masses, we retain a savings account from the proposed building project for Prairie Catholic School a few years back. You might remember that a gymnasium had been proposed along with some new classrooms at the St John s school. The balance in the savings account is $278,000. This account is held at the diocese, but is liquid, and available for us to use as we go forward. The primary thing we want to do is reassure all interested parties that this money did not get turned over to the diocese, and is there for our use. FAMILY UNITS This is something that has taken much thought and planning. Just how do we convert the family units from St John s and St Gabriel s to Holy Family parish family units? Meeting with leaders of our parish, we have decided to introduce a new formula this coming Dec / Jan. We will spell out how the divisions are made, and what the standards will be at that time. We do know that we will be going away from neighborhood designations, as these have been deteriorating over time with a more and more mobile society. Although there are some still in the same neighborhood, it was becoming more complicated to keep the groups separated. Look for a notification this December on the new family unit structure. This being the case, we are in need of new faces for both the bazaar at St. John s and the Fall Fest at St. Gabriel s. This year, we will be seeking volunteers to provide the much needed man (and woman) power to make a successful bazaar and fall fest. Please consider volunteering your time (contact John or Betty Fischer at 326-2827 or John or Norma Gillitzer at 326-2807) providing pies, cakes, vegetables or other items as in the past. We would like to know what is coming in by the 8 th of September so we can plan what needs to be purchased. Both the bazaar and the fall fest are in need of new faces, so please consider how you can help. These parish events can provide a great opportunity to get to know other parishioners, build our parish identity as well as providing much needed resources for our parish. MARIAN REMEMBERANCE GARDEN Soon we will be redoing the Marian garden in front of St John s church. We are working with a committee to prepare a remembrance garden for families. The statue of Mary will be raised and a couple benches have been offered to make this a quiet place of prayer. In addition, we will offer paving stones for individual families that can be engraved to remember their loved ones. Again, more details as we move along. (cont. on next column) CAPITAL CAMPAIGN AND BISHOP S APPEAL As we continue with our assessment of a capital campaign, we need to be aware that the bishop s annual appeal will be arriving soon in our mail boxes (yes, our mail boxes; as a priest I participate in both of these as well). These are separate issues. Since arriving in Prairie du Chien, you have responded very generously to the bishop s appeal, and I hope this continues to be the case. There are a few small differences, as there is no longer an advance phase, the letters will come out simultaneously. In addition, everyone will receive a letter from our bishop encouraging participation. This is a change from the years past, as I have written the letters in the past, but with a new campaign director in La Crosse, they are striving for a new method. The amount each family is asked to offer follows the same formula used here in the past, and should be the same as last year. Please keep these things and all on-going efforts in our parish in your prayers. God bless. Fr Jim PRAYER CORNER God, grant healing and peace to the sick of our communities and those who have requested our prayers.
