Classes will begin in October, but don't forget to attend the Parent and New student meetings that are scheduled for each church. I will meet with the Bethany folks at 6pm on Wednesday September 12th and the Lost Island folks on Saturday September 15th. It is important that you attend this meeting so you know all that you need to know to be ready when classes begin at the beginning of October. FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE BEING CONFIRMED THIS FALL- I need you to start thinking of a Bible verse or passage that you would like to use for your confirmation. Choose a verse, or passage that speaks to you. Many of your parents had to do this too so you can ask them for help. I will need to know what your verses are by Saturday October 20th. I would like to get together with those that are being confirmed on the 20th so we can walk through the service and talk about some other things. The Bethany youth are being confirmed on October 28th-the Lost Island youth on November 4th. Photos will be taken at each service. Please mark these dates on your calendar and invite your mentors, sponsors and families to attend. A reception will be held at each church following the service. (cont d. p. 2) 1

(cont d. from page 1) AND FINALLY! The Valparaiso University Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Jeff Doebler will be here in Emmetsburg October 12-14th. They will be giving workshops and a concert on Saturday the 13th at the High School and will be playing for worship at Bethany on the 14th. We will need to plan a meal at church for supper Saturday night, and I am looking for volunteers to host one or two students in their homes Saturday night. More details will be coming soon, but mark these dates on your calendars as well. INTERN QUILT FOR SARAH At the seminary that Sarah attends, it is a requirement that the church that the intern served make a quilt for the intern. Our quilt will be hung and displayed as part of the graduation activities and then given to Sarah. Each family of Bethany and Lost Island will be given the opportunity to sign their names to a block that will be assembled into the quilt. At Bethany we will start signing blocks on September 9. If you have any questions about the quilt, feel free to contact Angela Hetrick, Marit Veltri or Alaire Nielsen. Thanks to the many members of Bethany Lutheran who sent us cards and extended congratulations to us on our 50th Wedding Anniversary. Brian and Janis Campbell The Lost Island WELCA Ladies are inviting Bethany to the Nature Center on Sept. 5th at 6:00 PM for their Annual Taco and Root Beer Float Dinner. Members of both Lost Island and Bethany are invited. Bring a friend and your own root beer glass, cup or mug! There will be an informational program provided for us to enjoy. Please let Diane know how many will be attending. Thanks! Pat Henningsen It is time again for the Adopt-A-Bible. The cost for the Adoption is $20. If you are interested in adopting a Bible, please contact either Diane or Pastor Peter and we can make that happen! 10 3

Hello Brothers and Sisters, I hope you had a great summer. As we jump into another fall together and another school year I want to leave you with a verse. This verse was our summer theme verse, Matthew 6:33, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you." In all things, whether going back to school, working while kids are at school, being at home with your family, or just living life, you can seek God in all things. He should come first in everything. Connect (6th-8th grade) 7-8pm Special Guest LIFE (9th-12th grade) 8-9:30pm Special Guest 9th: Rally Sunday October: 7th: Kickoff to Outreach Nights Any questions, let me know In Christ, Kristin 9:30am Sunday school (Shirts handed out) Meal after service Noisy Offering World Vision-Clean Water Fund Rally Sunday is Sunday, September 9. A freewill donation will be taken with the proceeds from the meal to be used to sponsor new Bethany T-shirts for the children of the Congregation. Quick note - The Stewardship committee is looking for some creative people to help with planning and presenting a project. It would involve some art work, writing, prepping a dinner and other things.
