Above all else, guard your heart because it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23 February is the month for love remembered and celebrated. On Valentines Day we pay special attention to those who bring warmth to our hearts in the midst of a cold winter. It so happens that Misty and I celebrate our anniversary on Valentines Day. When we set the wedding date I teased her that if I ever did forget our anniversary, at least she d get a rose or a box of chocolates! In case you re wondering, 23 years later I haven t forgotten it yet! Americans spend millions of dollars every year on candy, flowers, cards, and other valentine gifts to let our loved ones know our hearts are with them. Our God of love (who gave us love in the first place!) wants our hearts to be with him as well. Why? Because God knows our heart is the key to Christian living. With God at the center of our heart, love for God and love for our neighbor will flow freely and abundantly. Brent Curtis writes in his book the The Sacred Romance, The truth of the gospel is intended to free us to love God and others with our whole heart. If we store up good things in our hearts, our words and actions will be good. Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks [Mt. 12:34]. That is why taking care of what is in our heart is crucial. Our heart not only guides our Christian living, it shapes our Christian being. Doing something good is not necessarily a sign of a good heart because our motives may not be godly. But if you have a heart filled with the love of Christ, then your life becomes a wellspring from which others may drink and be spiritually nourished. This is true for all of our relationships whether they are lived out in our homes, workplaces, church, community service places or anywhere else we are. My friends, the love we have for God in Christ Jesus is to be shared, not merely professed or felt. 1 John 1:17-18 says, But if anyone has the world s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk, but in deed and in truth. This Valentine s Day I hope that all of you will be blessed as you share your love with those who are near and dear to you. Let us also give thanks to God for the amazing selfless love of Jesus Christ that, once brought deep into our hearts, compels us and enables us to love even our enemies, to help those in need without judgment, and to forgive others whether we think they deserve it or not. Love in Christ, Pastor Jeff 2

And now a few words from Pr. Bob The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. Psalm 28:7 Dear Family at Peace, This verse from Psalm 28 captures how we are feeling as we write this letter. Our hearts are indeed leaping for joy at the results from my current surgery. We both knew that hip replacement is vastly different from the last surgery which kept me in the hospital for forty days. But, questions remained and fears gripped us. What tremendous joy we felt that moment I woke up a few short hours after surgery! We have learned there is nothing quite like undergoing surgery that makes us put faith in the right place. We come face-to-face with our own weakness. We are desperate for strength to come from somewhere. It sure doesn t mean that everything will turn out the way we want, but it gives us calming confidence to know God cares and is in control. We are thankful that this hospital stay was short-lived. Recovery will take some time, but we have confidence that the one who leads us journeys with us. We look forward to getting back. Gratefully, Bob and Dianne 3
