SPIRITUAL GIFTS ARE: Traits of Jesus, which the Bible describes to us & other Christians see in us.

3 CATEGORIES OF GIFTS Leadership Gifts Serve by prayerful, Word-filled Equipping: ---Equip by example of selflessness, by patient teaching, by convincing, by correcting, and by training individuals and whole church body. (2 Tim. 2:26; 3:16-17; 4:2; Eph. 4) Function Gifts Serve by functioning in trusting obedience to the prompts of the Spirit for meeting the (practical or spiritual) needs of individuals or the whole body as Christians pursue maturity in Christ. (Romans 12:6-8) Manifestation Gifts Serve by yielding to be a vessel for the empowering of the Holy Spirit, in order to demonstrate the Presence and power of the Spirit for the uplifting of the church. (1 Cor. 12:8-11)

THE WHY God gives spiritual gifts, so that He might dwell among us (Eph. 4). God works in & through you, & people see God. Get it?

WHEN YOU SEE IT If you do not know about spiritual gifts, then you will never recognize when God is showing up for you in & through another believer. The only proper responses to someone speaking or acting according to the Spirit of God are: Praise toward God Thanking the person for being influenced by the Spirit & being obedient Increased love for both God and your sibling in Christ.

THE HOW No one has command over their own gift. (1 Corinthians 12:6, 11). The Holy Spirit empowers and apportions to each, AS HE WILLS.

BUT, everyone has control over their responsiveness to the influence of Holy Spirit. (Galatians 5-6)

The Spirit gives us gifts that complement our personality, interests and experiences. As you respond to the Spirit s prompts, yielding to His influence consistently (a.k.a. maturing), patterns emerge your gift(s).

APOSTLE A "sent one" or missionary---someone who has the anointing / blend of gifts to start churches where needed. Appointed by God, recognized by the Church (esp. other leaders; Acts 13)

PROPHET Someone who studies the Word in its prophetic genre, meditates therein, and accordingly is utilized by God to guide the church with comforts and/or warnings in light of current world events or spiritual climate / happenings in the church. Foretells as well as "forthtells."

EVANGELIST Someone anointed "above fellows" to explain, to proclaim and even protect the gospel, especially in unreached or apostate regions.

PASTOR / TEACHER One who is gifted to prayerfully feed the Word to the flock of God, restore the failing to faith, hope and love in Christ; and who guards the flock against false doctrine, false teachers and church-wide sin.
