A Teen Transformed: Jane s Story Ms. Lida s Awana Club was the place kids in Binalbagan (in the Philippines) went for fun. However, a young teenager, Jane, found far more than she expected. On October 30, 2005, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She writes: I don t know why me, but I thank God He chose me. But God didn t end His miracle in me. Through Awana God answered my prayers about my family. Now my mother and sisters have received Jesus as their Savior and even go to church with me. I am now 18 years old and God gave me a burden to continue reaching kids to let them know Christ. I m not confident to run this ministry in my leadership, but God s Word always reminds me that God uses ordinary people for sharing His Word. And praise God for what He has done in my life through the help of our faithful Awana leaders and supporters in our church. As what Philippians 4:13 says, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Presently, Jane works with 17 leaders and 100+ kids! Reaching Families for Jesus: A Message FromTono Tono and his wife lead an Awana club in Ecuador; in a community that desperately needs the gospel of Jesus Christ. Take a moment to read his powerful words: We are in the most dangerous area of Guayaquil, the place where the worst criminals meet. There we take the Word of God, applied to life. We say, Come, God can change your life. Come, God can heal you. Come, God can set you free. Now we have 300 children in our ministry. They are not children growing up in church but growing up in the street, in the midst of bad things. But we bring God s Word and they change. The whole neighborhood has changed mentality; I have seen God s power in the streets. The commander of the police told me what has happened here is a miracle. The people stopped killing one another. Gangs stopped fighting. I believe that what moves our ministry in Awana is that we have people who love. We are friends with the people. Before long many parents visit the church, eager to know what has made such a profound difference in the lives of their children. The Praises of a Girl in Africa Named Diana An Awana leader in Kenya, Peter Simiyu, shares this encouraging story about young Diana: Diana used to go to church because she was forced to, but she only wanted to stay at home and play with her friends. She usually played with her friends on Saturdays, and when Sunday came, she was too tired to go to church. She continued like this until one Saturday when her friends invited her to Awana. She found herself in a church with many kids who were wearing different colored t-shirts. After some time, she saw all the children heading to the field and starting to play games. She was amazed that all the people there were friendly and welcomed her as one of them. She gave her life to Christ. Diana says that she has dedicated all the energy that God has given her to praising Him every Saturday at her Awana club instead of playing games with her friends. She wants to tell her fellow Awana clubbers all over the world: Pray for each other and pray for other children who do not know God. Also, use your time and energy to praise God.
