Ether 6-11 Role Play - I just can t wait to be King Brother of Jared: Behold, I am beginning to be old. I see and that I must soon go down to the grave. Jared, my brother, Let us gather together our people that we may number them, that we may know of them what they will desire of us before we go down to our graves. Jared: Okay Brother, Let s do it. Moroni: And so the people were gathered together as Jared and his brother had directed them to do. Jared: (speaking to all the people) I and my brother are getting old, we will soon die. What would you desire of us before we do? All the people: We want you to anoint one of your sons to be a king over us. Moroni: And now behold, this was grievous unto Jared and his brother. Brother of Jared: Behold! Surely this thing will lead you into captivity! Jared: Oh my brother, just loosen up and let them have a king. Jared: (speaking to the people) Choose ye out from among our sons a king, even whom ye will. Moroni: And it came to pass that they chose even the firstborn of the brother of Jared; and his name was Pagag. And it came to pass that he refused and would not be their king. And the people would that his father should constrain him, but his father would not; and he commanded them that they should constrain no man to be their king. And it came to pass that they chose all the brothers of Pagag, and they would not. And it came to pass that neither would the sons of Jared, even all save it were one; and Orihah was anointed to be King over the people. Orihah: (Puts on Crown): Behold my people I exhort you to r4member how great the things the Lord has done for us and for my father Jared and for all our ancestors. Let us walk in righteousness Moroni: The people began to prosper; and they became exceedingly rich. It came to pass that Jared died, and his brother also. And it came to pass that Orihah did execute judgment upon the land in righteousness all his days, whose days were exceedingly many. And he begat sons and daughters; yea, he begat thirty and one, among whom were twenty and three sons. And it came to pass that he also begat Kib in his old age. Kib: (takes crown from Orihan and puts it on). Behold my father, your King, Orihah has died and I, Kib, am now your King. I will walk in all the ways of my Father.
Corihor: I am the son of Kib who is the King. I don t like to be told what to do and I m leaving town, and I think I ll go over and dwell in the the land of Nehor. Any of this people that want to follow me, can also rebel against my father the King and follow me. Moroni: Corihor had sons and daughters, and they became exceedingly fair; and Corihor drew away many people after him. Corihor: It s now been a few years since I left my father. I have gathered together an army and I will take them down to the land of my father and take over. He s old and weak. Moroni: Corihor came up unto the land of Moron where Kib the king dwelt, Corihor: (taking crown from Kib and puting it on) Hey there Dad, I think I like this kingdom of yours. I and my army are taking over! You can just go rot in prison! Brother of Jared: Behold! This fulfills my prophetic warnings! I warned you that the desire for a king would bring you into captivity! Hearken and remember: Rejecting the words of the prophets can lead to captivity Moroni: It came to pass that Kib dwelt in captivity, and his people under Corihor his son, until he became exceedingly old; nevertheless Kib begat Shule in his old age, while he was yet in captivity. Shule: I am Shule. I was born in captivity. The is not right! I am angry with his brother. He shouldn t have taken my father, the rightful king, into captivity. I am strong, and mighty but also mighty in judgment. I think I can take on my brother. I will go and make some swords and take those who are also in captivity and we will go and give battle to my brother Corihor, the usurper! Moroni: After Shule had armed his people with swords he returned to the city Nehor, and gave battle unto his brother Corihor. Shule: (takes crown from Corihor). Ha! Corihor I and my people have now defeated you and I will take this crown from you and return it to it s rightful owner, our father Kib. (puts crown on Kib) Kib: Thank you my son Shule! As a reward for your valiant behavior I now bestow upon you the kingdom! (puts crown on Shule) Moroni: Shule began to reign in the stead of his father and he did execute judgment in righteousness; and he did spread his kingdom upon all the face of the land, for the people had become exceedingly numerous. And it came to pass that Shule also begat many sons and daughters. And Corihor repented of the many evils which he had done; wherefore Shule gave him power in his kingdom. And it came to pass that Corihor had many sons and daughters. And among the sons of Corihor there was one whose name was Noah.
Noah: Hey there people! I am Noah and I don t really like following all these rules of my uncle the King. I think I d rather be King! I think my brother Cohor might agree with me. Let s see how many we can get to support us! Moroni: Noah and Cohor rebelled against Shule, the king, and their father Corihor, and drew away all his brethren and many of the people. And he gave battle unto Shule, the king, in which he did obtain the land of their first inheritance; Noah: Hey there uncle Shule! Guess what? I and my army have defeated you in battle and I am taking over! (takes crown from Shule and puts it on). Oh and by the way Uncle, I am going to take you captive! But then again, maybe I ll just kill you! Moroni: As Noah was about to put Shule to death, the sons of Shule crept into the house of Noah by night and slew Noah. Son of Shule: (takes crown from Noah). Hey there Dad, we ve gotten rid of Noah and here is your crown back. (puts crown on Shule). Moroni: The son of Noah, named Cohor, wasn t happy that his father was killed and he continued to build up a kingdom in Noah s place; however, he did not gain power any more over Shule the king, and the people who were under the reign of Shule the king did prosper exceedingly and wax great. But the country was divided; and there were two kingdoms, the kingdom of Shule, and the kingdom of Cohor, the son of Noah. Cohor: I still feel I should rightly be king. I think I ll give battle again to Shule. I really want that crown! Moroni: Cohor and his people did give battle unto Shule, but Shule did beat them and did slay Cohor. Nimrod: Behold King Shule, I am, Nimrod, son of Cohor I really don t think the way my fathers have been dealing with you is right so I am giving up the kingdom of Cohor and I give it unto you. Shule: Thank your Nimrod, by doing this. You have gained favor in my eyes. I shall bestow great favors upon you. I trust you and you may do whatever you want while in this kingdom. Moroni: During the reign of Shule there came prophets among the people, who were sent from the Lord, Prophet: Behold thus safety the Lord: the wickedness and idolatry of the people is bringing a curse upon the land. REPENT or BE DESTROYED! Moroni: The people did not listen to the prophets and abused and mocked them. Shule: Behold it has come to my attention that the people are abusing and mocking the prophets. This is wrong and I will execute judgment against all those who abuse the prophets and this law will stand throughout the land. I give power unto the prophets that
they should go wherever they want to; and by this perhaps this people will be brought unto repentance. Moroni: Because the people did repent of their iniquities and idolatries the Lord did spare them, and they began to prosper again in the land. Prophet: And thus we see that as we follow the counsel of prophets and repent we will prosper Moroni: And it came to pass that Shule had more sons and daughters in his old age. Shule: Behold I urge this people to remember all that the Lord has done for our fathers in bringing them across the great deep into the promised land. It is for this reason I have tried to execute judgment in righteousness in all my days Omer: (taking crown from Shule and puts it on). I am Omer sone of Shule. Behold my father Shule has passed and I am now king. I will follow in my father s pattern of righteousness and judgment. Jared: I am Jared, the son of Omer the King. I am not too happy following all of Dad s righteous rules! I think I would do better. Dad just needs to lighten up. That crown would look pretty good on ME!. Moroni: Jared rebelled against his father, and came and dwelt in the land of Heth. And it came to pass that he did flatter many people, because of his cunning words, until he had gained the half of the kingdom and when he had gained the half of the kingdom he gave battle unto his father Jared: Hey there Dad! I and my army have defeated you! (takes crown from Omer and puts it on) and I think I ll carry you away into captivity and you can now serve in me! Moroni: Omer he was in captivity the half of his days. He continued to have sons and daughters while in captivity, among whom were Esrom and Coriantumr. And they were exceedingly angry because of the doings of Jared their brother, insomuch that they did raise an army and gave battle unto Jared. And it came to pass that they did give battle unto him by night. And it came to pass that when they had slain the army of Jared they were about to slay him also; and he pled with them that they would not slay him, and he would give up the kingdom unto his father. And it came to pass that they did grant unto him his life. Omer: (takes back the crown and puts it on) Jared you have not done right but I will allow you to live. Jared: Man oh man, do I miss that crown. I miss the honor and glory it brings! Daughter of Jared: Hey Dad, I see you are really bummed! I have a plan that can get your back your kingdom! Remember the record which our fathers brought across the great deep? Behold, is there not an account concerning them of old, that they by their secret plans did obtain kingdoms and great glory? Why don t you send for Akish, the son of Kimnor; and I
know I can get him to ask for me to be his wife. When he he comes to you to ask for my hand in marriage you tell him that he can only marry me if he brings you the head of your Father, my grandpa, King Omer. Moroni: Everthing goes according to the daughter of Jared s plan and Akish enters into league with Jared to kill King Omer. Akish gathered all his kinsfolk, and tells them he has a plan. Akish: Will you swear unto me that ye will be faithful unto me what I am going to ask you? Swear unto me, by the God of heaven, and also by the heavens, and also by the earth, and by your heads, that whoso should vary from the assistance which I desire should lose his head; and whoso should divulge whatsoever thing I made known unto you, the same should lose his life. Moroni: They all agreed with Akish. And Akish did administer unto them the oaths which were given by them of old who also sought power, which had been handed down even from Cain, who was a murderer from the beginning. And they were kept up by the power of the devil to administer these oaths unto the people, to keep them in darkness, to help such as sought power to gain power, and to murder, and to plunder, and to lie, and to commit all manner of wickedness and whoredoms. They formed a secret combination, even as they of old; which combination is most abominable and wicked above all, in the sight of God; Prophet: Behold! The devil is the author of secret combinations! The Lord does not work in secret combinations, neither does he want that man should shed blood, but in all things hath forbidden it, from the beginning of man. Moroni: I do not write the manner of their oaths and combinations, for it hath been made known unto me that they are had among all people, and they are had among the Lamanites. And they have caused the destruction of this people of whom I am now speaking, and also the destruction of the people of Nephi. And whatsoever nation shall uphold such secret combinations, to get power and gain, until they shall spread over the nation, behold, they shall be destroyed; for the Lord will not suffer that the blood of his saints, which shall be shed by them, shall always cry unto him from the ground for vengeance upon them and yet he avenge them not. Prophet: Supporting secret combinations leads to the destruction people and nations Moroni: And now I, Moroni, proceed with my record. Therefore, behold, it came to pass that because of the secret combinations of Akish and his friends, behold, they did overthrow the kingdom of Omer. Akish: Hey there Omer - we have defeated you! I ll take that crown! (takes crown and gives it to Jared) Okay Jared, now that I ve brought your the crown and the kingdom, where is that daughter of yours you promised me?
Moroni: The Lord was merciful unto Omer, and also to his sons and to his daughters because they did not seek his destruction. and the Lord warned Omer in a dream that he should depart out of the land; Omer: The Lord has warned me in a dream that Akish and Jared want to kill me. So family, gather your stuff, we re outta here! Moroni So, Omer departed out of the land with his family, and traveled many days, and came over and passed by the hill of Shim, and came over by the place where the Nephites were destroyed, and from thence eastward, and came to a place which was called Ablom, by the seashore, and there he pitched his tent, and also his sons and his daughters, and all his household, save it were Jared and his family. Akish: Hey you know what, I think that crown looks pretty good. I think I d like it for myself. Moroni: Akish sought the life of his father-in-law; and he conspired with those whom he had sworn by the oath of the ancients, and they obtained the head of his father-in-law, (Akish takes the crown from Jared and puts it on). as he sat upon his throne, giving audience to his people.for so great had been the spreading of this wicked and secret society that it had corrupted the hearts of all the people; therefore Jared was murdered upon his throne, and Akish reigned in his stead. Akish: You know what? My son is getting a little to powerful. I m jealous of his popularity. He might just try to take the crown from me. I think I will shut him up in prison.. Moroni: Akish did put his son in prison, and kept him upon little or no food until he had suffered death. After Akish many kings reigned, some in righteousness most in wickedness. Sometimes the people listened to the prophets, more often they rejected the prophets. In order to get their attention and in consequence of their choices, the Lord caused the land to be cursed with famine, serpents, and other pestilence. This cycle repeated itself even down to the days of King Coriantor who dwelt in captivity all his days. Prophet: And thus we see that rejecting the words of the prophets can lead to captivity. Moroni: In the days of Coriantor, many prophets were sent and cried repentance unto the people and warned them that unless they did repent the Lord God would execute judgment against them to their utter destruction; Sadly, they did reject all the words of the prophets, because of their secret society and wicked abominations.
