The capital city of Bhutan and the centre of government, religion and commerce, Thimphu is a unique city with an unusual mixture of modern development alongside ancient traditions. With the population of about 100,000 it is perhaps still the world s only capital city without a traffic light. Memorial Chorten is the stupa built in the memory of Bhutan's third King, His Late Majesty, King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, who is popularly regarded as the Father of modern Bhutan. The paintings and statues inside the monument provide a deep insight into Buddhist philosophy. Located at a short drive from Thimphu city Centre, visitors can get a good overview of the Thimphu valley from Buddha Dordenma (Kuensel Phodrang). You can pay your respects and/or offer prayers to the Buddha, the largest statue in the country and then walk around and take a glimpse of the valley.
The Takin Preserve is the national animal of Bhutan, and looks like a cross between a cow and a goat. Legend has it that the animal was created by the great Buddhist yogi, Drupa Kunley, and it can be found only in Bhutan and nearby areas Overnight at a 3-star hotel in Thimphu Day 02 :Thimphu Punakha(3 hrs drive, 76km,1200m above sea) After breakfast at the hotel, drive to Punakaha across Dochula Pass (3,080 m). In Bhutan, the passes are marked by large Bhutanese chortens (stupas) and prayer flags. Dochula Pass offers the most spectacular view over the high peaks of the eastern Himalayas on a clear day. Lunch will be served at riverbank as pack picnic lunch. After lunch visit to Punakha Dzong or (Palace of Great Happiness), built at the junction of the Phochu and Mochu rivers in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. This majestic dzong served as both the religious and the administrative center of Bhutan in the past. It measures some 600 by 240 feet and has a six-story, gold-domed tower. Inside are courtyards and religious statues that hint the depth of history and spiritual tradition embodied here. Your guide will illuminate your understanding of this intricate culture that is exotic to travellers, though long established here. Followed by lunch and Evening visit and walk over Suspension Bridge, consider as longest suspension bridge in Bhutan Over night : Punakha. Day 03: (Punakha- Bumthang) After breakfast drive to Bumthang in route throung Trongsa. lunch on the way and reaching bumthang visit Kurji and further drive to visit Jambay Lhakhang built in 659 by the Tibetan Emperor Songtsen Gampo to pin down demons who was obstructing the spread of Bhddhism. Over night: bumthang Day 04:Bumthang Tamshing Lhakhang: Located across the river from Kurje Lhakhang, this temple was founded in 1501 by Terton Pema Lingpa, the re-incarnation of Guru Padsambhava. The monastery has very ancient religious paintings like 1,000 Buddhas and 21 Taras (female form of Buddhistava). The temple was restored at the end of the 19th century Visit Jakar Dzong/fortress built by Yongzin Ngagi Wangchuk. The name Jakar is derived from the word Jakhab, meaning white Bird, in reference to jakar s foundation myth, according to which a roosting white bird signaled the proper and auspicious location to found a monastery around 1549 After lunch visit Tang Nunnery Institute, which provides degree in Buddhist philosophy for women. Founded by 9th Gangtey Tulku Rinpoche. You can join the nun for the prayers for the world peace. On the way coming back visit Membertsho (burning Lake). Overnight- Hotel in Bumthang Day 05 (Bumthang- Gangytey) After breakfast drive to Gangtey. Lunch will serve on the way.
Evening will do Gangtey Nature Trail. This pleasurable walk will give you a nice feeling for Phobjikha valley. From the small hilltop overlooking Gangtey Gompa. You head downhill through flower meadows to semchubara village,passing by beautiful forest and into the open valley. The trail ends with the walk 1 hour. Over night: Gantey Day 6 (Gangtey- Thimphu After breakfast check out and Visit the Gangtey Goenpa Monastery perched on the hilltop since the 17 th century. The Gantay Goenpa Monastery is dedicated to one of the oldest schools of Mahayana Buddhism known as Nyingma. Followed by lunch and continue drive to Thimphu. Over night: Thimphu Day 7 (Thimphu- Paro) After breakfast drive to paro and on the way visit hand made Iron Bridge by great master Thangthong Gyalpo in 15 th century. Visit Bhutan National Mesuem (previously called Ta dzong which means watch tower) built in 1649 and completed in 1651 according to khempo phuntsho Tashi and later in 1960s it was converted to national mesuem of Bhutan. Visit paro Dzong built in 17 th century by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Currently is a place where we practice government office and monastic school and walk down to the suspension bridge as you explore to see amazing paro valley. Over night: Paro Day 8 (Paro sight seen) After breakfast drive 1 hour to Neyphug Monastery founded in 1550s by 1 st Neyphug Rinpoche Ngawang Drakpa presently monastery has around 50 monks headed by 9 th Neyphug Rinpoche and if permit you will have audience with present rinpoche. Currently monastery is under restoration after masive damage by earhquake in 2011. Or

Evening drive back and visit Kichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temple in Bhutan founded in 7 th century by Tibetan King. The King built 108 temple in one day all accrose the himalayan region. Over night: Paro Day 9(paro): Tiger nest, hike Horse back: After breakfast, excursion to Taktshang Monastery (4hrs hike). It is one of the most famous of Bhutan s monasteries, perched on the side of a cliff 900m above the Paro valley floor. It is said that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery and hence it is called Tiger s Nest. This site has been recognised as a most sacred place and visited by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 and now visited by all Bhutanese at least once in their lifetime. On 19 April, 1998, a fire severely damaged the main structure of building but now this Bhutanese jewel has been restored to its original splendor.
