WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CONFESSION (please stand) All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Silence for reflection and self-examination. Gracious God, have mercy on us. We confess that we have turned from you and are held by the power of sin. In your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things we have done and things we have failed to do. Turn us again to you, and uphold us by your Spirit, that we may be given faith, and live and serve you in newness of life through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in sin, and made us alive together with Christ. By grace you have been saved. In the name of Jesus Christ, your sins are forgiven. Almighty God strengthen you with power through the Holy Spirit, that Christ may live in your hearts through faith. Thanks be to God! GATHERING SONG Lord, Have Mercy Jesus I ve forgotten the words that You have spoken. Promises that burned within my heart have now grown dim. With a doubting heart I follow the paths of earthly wisdom. Forgive me for my unbelief, renew the fire again. Lord, have mercy, Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Lord have mercy, Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy on me. I have built an altar where I worship things of man. I have taken journeys that have drawn me far from you. Now I am returning to your mercies ever flowing. Pardon my transgressions, help me love You again. Lord, have mercy, Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Lord have mercy, Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy on me. I have longed to know You and all Your tender mercies. Like a river of forgiveness, ever flowing without end. So I bow my heart before You in the goodness of Your presence. Your grace forever shining like a beacon in the night. Lord, have mercy, Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Lord have mercy, Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy on me. 1 2

PRAYER OF THE DAY Let us pray. Generous God, like a loving parent you always welcome us when we come to you. Encourage us to keep on approaching you for whatever we need, knowing that you supply what is best for us. We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. (please be seated) SPECIAL MUSIC Ella Kempf ~ Give Thanks A TIME FOR CHILDREN & NOISY OFFERING WORD God speaks to us in Scripture reading, preaching, and song. PSALM Psalm 103 (read responsively) 1 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits 3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, 5 who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. 6 The LORD works vindication and justice for all who are oppressed. 7 He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel. 8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. 3 9 He will not always accuse, nor will he keep his anger forever. 10 He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far he removes our transgressions from us. 13 As a father has compassion for his children, so the LORD has compassion for those who fear him. 14 For he knows how we were made; he remembers that we are dust. 15 As for mortals, their days are like grass; they flourish like a flower of the field; 16 for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. 17 But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children's children, 18 to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments. 19 The LORD has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all. 20 Bless the LORD, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, obedient to his spoken word. 21 Bless the LORD, all his hosts, his ministers that do his will. 22 Bless the LORD, all his works, in all places of his dominion. Bless the LORD, O my soul. ALLELUIA (please stand) Hallelujah, Hear Our Praises From the mountains to the valley Hear our praises rise to You. Let the blind man say I can see again. Let the dead man say I am born again. Oh, let the river flow. Let the river flow. Let the river flow, let the river flow. Holy Spirit come, move in power. Let the river flow. Let the poor man say I am rich in Him, Let the lost man say I am found in Him, Oh, let the river flow. Let the blind man say I can see again. Let the dead man say I am born again. Let the river flow. Let the river flow. Let the river flow, let the river flow. Holy Spirit come, move in power. Let the river flow. APOSTLES CREED (please stand) With the whole church, let us confess our faith. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. (please be seated) 6

OFFERING The children are welcome to come forward and place their offerings in the For Children Everywhere box. OFFERING SONG Offering The sun cannot compare to the Glory of Your love. GOSPEL Mark 7:24-37 24 [Jesus] set out and went away to the region of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know he was there. Yet he could not escape notice, 25 but a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately heard about him, and she came and bowed down at his feet. 26 Now the woman was a Gentile, of Syrophoenician origin. She begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 He said to her, Let the children be fed first, for it is not fair to take the children s food and throw it to the dogs. 28 But she answered him, Sir, even the dogs under the table eat the children s crumbs. 29 Then he said to her, For saying that, you may go the demon has left your daughter. 30 So she went home, found the child lying on the bed, and the demon gone. 31 Then he returned from the region of Tyre, and went by way of Sidon towards the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the Decapolis. 32 They brought to him a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech; and they begged him to lay his hand on him. 33 He took him aside in private, away from the crowd, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue. 34 Then looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. 35 And immediately his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. 36 Then Jesus ordered them to tell no one; but the more he ordered them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. 37 They were astounded beyond measure, saying, He has done everything well; he even makes the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.
