Select four centers to use ths unt. Assgn a teacher to set up and supervse each center wth no more than sx chldren. Materals IMPORTANT: Do not allow any small toys n the classroom. Bble Story Text 1 Samuel 1:1-20 Materals For the teacher: Bble scssors markers or crayons felt board tape baby doll baby blanket clear contact paper or lamnate (optonal) Reproducble Pages: Page A, 1 copy for the teacher Preparaton 1. Cut out and color the three Hannah pctures from Reproducble Page A. 2. Roll three peces of tape and put one on the back of each pcture. 3. Place the three pctures of Hannah out of order on the bottom of the felt board. We Can Talk to God Have the chldren st on the floor n front of the felt board where they can see easly. Have you ever prayed before? Who do you talk to when you pray? Yes, you talk to God. Have you ever prayed a lot for somethng you wanted? What dd you pray for? Open the Bble. Today we are gong to read a story from the Bble about a woman named Hannah. Can you say Hannah? Guess what she wanted very badly? Take the chldren s responses. Hannah wanted a baby! How do you thnk Hannah would look f she wanted a baby very badly and ddn t have one? She would probably look very sad! Can anyone pont to the pcture of Hannah lookng sad because she dd not have a baby? That s rght! Have a chld place pcture #1 on the top of the felt board. Now, f you were very sad, what would you do? Take the chldren s responses. Dd you know that God wants you to talk to hm when you are sad? He wants you to talk to hm when you are happy, too. Just lke your Mommy and Daddy want to help you feel better, God wants to help you feel better, too. What do you thnk Hannah should do f she s sad and wants a baby? Yes, she should talk to God and tell hm how sad she s. She should pray. In the Bble t says that Hannah dd pray. She prayed very hard to God (1 Samuel 1:15). Who can pont to the pcture of Hannah prayng? Have a chld move pcture #2 besde pcture #1 on the felt board. God s always lstenng to us! He lstened to Hannah when she was prayng, and guess what happened? God answered Hannah s prayer. He gave her a baby! (1 Samuel 1:19-20). Ask f someone would lke to put pcture #3 wth the others. Here s the last pcture that shows Hannah lovng her new lttle baby. Hs name s Samuel. Can you say that? Let s go over the story agan: Pont to pcture #1. Cuddle the doll lke a baby. Let s pretend ths s the baby that God gave Hannah! Let s pass the baby around, and then hug the baby. Pass the doll around and let the chldren hug t. B b l e S t o r y Concluson When Hannah talked to God what dd she ask for? Yes, a baby. So f we want to let God know about somethng we need or how we are feelng, what should we do? Yes, we should pray and talk to God. If there s tme, take the pctures off the felt board. Gve three chldren each a pcture and help them to place the pctures n order on the felt board. Repeat untl all of the chldren have had a turn. For older threes, allow them to hold all of the pctures, and then put them n order on the felt board. That s rght! When we pray, we talk to God. What do we say to God? We tell hm, thank you, for gvng us everythng we need. We also tell hm how we are feelng. Hold up pcture #1 of Hannah lookng sad. Let s look at ths pcture. Can anyone tell me who s n ths pcture? Ths s Hannah. Can you say, Hannah? What s wrong wth Hannah? She s sad. Can anyone tell me why she s sad? She s sad because she wants a lttle baby, and she does not have one. What should Hannah do? Hold up pcture #2 of Hannah prayng. Hannah s prayng to God. That s what she needs to do. She needs to pray to God, and ask God, Please gve me a baby. And that s what Hannah dd! She prayed to God for a baby. And guess what? Hold up pcture #3 of Hannah wth her baby. God gave Hannah a baby. Does anyone know what her baby s name s? Hs name s Samuel. God loved Hannah, and he answered her prayers and gave her a baby. God hears us when we pray, and he answers our prayers because he loves us, too! Hold up pcture #4. Why s ths lttle grl cryng? She s cryng because she does not want to go to bed. Do you ever cry because you do not want to go to bed? What do you thnk she needs to do? Hold up pcture #5. She s prayng to God. She s askng God to please help her to obey her mommy and to go to sleep. Do you thnk God wll help her to go to sleep? Let s see. Hold up pcture #6. Look, she has gone to sleep. She prayed to God, and she stopped cryng and went to sleep. She obeyed her mommy and stayed n her bed. Her mommy wll be happy, and the lttle grl wll be happy when she wakes up. God helped her to go to sleep! Hold up pcture #7. What are these boys dong? They are fghtng over a toy. They are not sharng. Ther mommy told them to share the toy, but they do not want to share t. What do they need to do? They need to pray to God to help them share. Hold up pcture #8. What are they dong? They are prayng. They are talkng to God and askng hm to please help them to share the toy, and to help them be good brothers and not to fght any more. What do you thnk wll happen? Hold up pcture #9. The boys are sharng! They are happy, and they are not fghtng. Who helped them to share? Yes, God dd! God helps us when we pray. Sng It s Tme To Pray from the Unt 14 Song Sheet. Show the dfferent pctures as you sng. If tme allows, play a sequencng game wth the pctures: Lay out the frst pcture of each set on the floor face up. Mx up the other pctures and lay them on the floor face down. Let each chld pck a pcture and hold t. Who has the pcture of Hannah prayng? Have that chld place the pcture next to the frst one. C r a f t Hannah Story Strps Ths craft wll allow the chldren to tell the story of Hannah and her baby. Materals For each chld: 1 pece of constructon paper crayons glue stck 10" x 4" strp of poster board For the teacher: scssors utlty knfe whte glue (optonal) Reproducble Pages: Page D, 1 copy for each chld Page E, 1 copy for each chld Preparaton 1. Cut a 10" x 4" strp of poster board for each chld. 2. Cut out the boxes wth the pctures of Hannah from the copes of Reproducble Page D. 3. Usng a utlty knfe, cut out the ovals n the faces and mdsecton of the Hannah pctures. 4. Cut out the boxes wth the pctures of the hands and faces from Reproducble Page E. 5. Glue the boxes to the poster board strps leavng 1 1 / 2 " on both ends. See Fgure A. 6. Make a model of the craft followng the nstructons. Instructons 1. Show the chldren the model of the craft and talk wth them about how God heard Hannah s prayer and answered t. Tell them that Hannah prayed for a baby. Ask the chldren what they ask God for when they pray. 2. Have the chldren prepare the Hannah pctures as follows: A. Gve each chld a Hannah pcture to color. B. Have the chldren turn over ther pctures when they are fnshed colorng. C. Gve each chld a glue stck and then have them place glue on the backs of ther pctures as shown n Fgure B. NOTE: Be sure that no glue s between the two ovals. D. Gve each chld a pece of constructon paper, and have them glue ther pctures to the constructon paper. 3. Gve each chld a poster board strp wth the pctures glued to t. Have the chldren color n the pctures on the strps. 4. Help each chld to poston ther poster board strp underneath ther pctures of Hannah. See Fgure C. 5. Wrte the chldren names on ther crafts. Concluson Demonstrate to the chldren how the story strp sldes back and forth tellng how Hannah prayed to God, and then how God answered her prayer. Talk about how the baby was God s answer to Hannah s prayer. Let the chldren tell the story themselves usng the story strps. Cut out the pctures from the copes of Reproducble Page F. 2. Prepare the followng textured tems for each chld A. Cut a 7" pece of a shoelace for a hose. B. Cut a 1 1 / 2" pece of lace for a tutu. C. Cut a 1 1 / 2" saw blade from alumnum fol. 3. Make a model of the craft followng the nstructons. Instructons 1. Introduce the craft as follows. Show the chldren your model of the craft.
