May all the faithful departed rest in peace. Fifth Sunday of Lent How fitting that the first Sunday Angelus of Pope Francis, who has made mercy his papacy s theme, took place the last time today s Gospel about Jesus encounter with the adulterous woman was proclaimed. Jesus attitude is striking, Francis declared. We do not hear words of scorn or condemnation, only words of love, of mercy, an invitation to conversion: Neither do I condemn you (John 8:11). Francis continued: God s face is the face of a merciful father who is always patient. Have you thought about God s patience, the patience [God] has with each one of us? That is [God s] mercy. [God] always has patience, patience with us...understands us...waits for us...does not tire of forgiving us if we return with a contrite heart (Pope Francis, Angelus address, March 17, 2013). Parishes preparing catechumens may proclaim Jesus raising of Lazarus. Referring to Lazarus, and all those raised from death of sin, Jesus defines the community s mission of mercy - Untie him and let him go (John 11:44). During this 40-day period each year, the Church unites itself to the mystery of Jesus in the desert. To prepare to celebrate the Easter Mysteries, we devote time during this special season to pray, to perform works of charity, and to deny ourselves by fulfilling obligations more faithfully. Here is a Lenten schedule for this week: *Adoration: Mondays 7pm - 8:30pm *Daily Mass: Tues. - Friday at 8am *Morning Prayer: Mon. - Friday at 8:30am *Reconciliation:Wed.6:30pm, Sat. 3:30pm *Stations of the Cross: Friday 12Noon & 7pm *Pray the Rosary for the Unborn: Every Saturday morning at 9:30am in front of Planned Parenthood at 4747 Louetta Road, Spring, TX *Read your Bible - 15 minutes a day, you may want to start by reading the Gospels first. Gospel Activity of the Week for Families This week pray together the following Act of Contrition for your family evening or meal prayer: My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I irmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy. Amen.

Why do we have a desire for God? A. God created people in his own image, and imprinted on their heart the desire for union with him. Even if we ignore this desire, God never ceases to draw us to himself (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraphs 44-45). Read the Catechism!
