THEME: LIVE WISE GET WISDOM SELECTIONS FROM PROVERBS; MATTHEW 5:2-11; 7:28-29 08.18.19.2018 How can we find wisdom? Matthew 5:2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. 9 Blessed are
the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. I. LEARN JESUS WAY OF LIFE. Matthew 7:28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29 for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes. Three principles about divine wisdom 1. DIVINE WISDOM ALWAYS GOES BELOW THE SURFACE. 2. DIVINE WISDOM THROWS US OFF BALANCE.
3. DIVINE WISDOM MOVES US FROM MOMENTARY TO ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE. Who do you know who is wise? Proverbs 23:12 Apply your heart to instruction and your ear to words of knowledge. II. APPLY WHAT YOU KNOW TO HOW YOU LIVE. In what area of life are you living foolishly? What area of life are you not applying what you know to how you live? Proverbs 15:22 Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.
III. SEEK OUT WISE PEOPLE. Proverbs 23:23 Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding. Proverbs 4:5 (MSG) Sell everything and buy Wisdom! IV. INVEST IN WISDOM HOWEVER YOU CAN. Proverbs 4:22 (MSG) Those who discover these words live, really live. Proverbs 24:14 Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
Proverbs 23:15 My son, if your heart is wise, my heart too will be glad. 16 My inmost being will exult when your lips speak what is right. Proverbs 28:26 Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered. V. REMEMBER THE RETURN OF INVESTING IN WISDOM. The life you re designed to live is on the other side of fear. Proverbs 1:1 The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel: 2 To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, 3 to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; 4 to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth 5 Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance,
6 to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles. 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. May we experience these fruits of wise living Know wisdom: Recognize truth from lies Receive instruction: Be humble before others Give prudence: Live rightly Increase in learning: Grow and mature Obtain guidance: Learn to live well through life challenges Proverbs 2:6 For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; 7 he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, 8 guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. 9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; 10 for wisdom will come into your heart, and
knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; 11 discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you, 12 delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech, 13 who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, 14 who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil, 15 men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways. Proverbs 16:9 The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.
