God Bless, Joanne Gregory V. P. Social Services Once again your help and generosity has allowed us to support children through the CCAP (Comprehensive Community Action Program). GREAT NEWS!! Through your generosity we are well on the way to reaching our goal of 25 Fresh Start Baskets, to be donated to the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center. We have received a gift of 25 baskets, so we currently have 45 laundry baskets. Why not fill them all! There are bins in the narthex to collect the items we will be putting in each basket. In addition, we will send some folks over to the Bethany Cemetery to plant some things in the entrance. Please see Carol Conrad to sign up for the Bethany Cemetery Beautification Project. Here is the list of items: Dust pan and brush All-purpose spray cleaner Rubber gloves Pinesol or similar type cleaning liquid Ajax 2-pack of paper towels 4 pack of toilet paper Dish liquid Package of sponges Dish cloth Kitchen towel On Sunday, 9 September, we will sort all of the items and fill the baskets. On the following day the baskets will be delivered to the center. Thank you in Advance for your generosity. The God s Work Our Hands Team!! About This Project With a team of volunteers planning since February 2018, our congregation is learning about the activities of our local Domestic Violence shelter and providing 25-45 filled baskets of fresh start household items which help a family when they relocate from the shelter into a new, safe home. Our team is collecting from a list of items provided by the shelter. We have been communicating with the shelter since February and advertising the items and services of the shelter since April. On Sunday, September 9, we will gather to inventory items, fill, pack and decorate baskets and write encouraging notes. On Tuesday, our team will deliver the baskets to the shelter s administration offices. In Support Of Elizabeth Buffum Chace Domestic Abuse Shelter
Did you know... Qualified Charitable Distributions... Based on the new tax laws for 2018, with larger standard deductions, fewer people will itemize and claim charitable deductions. This may affect the ability of charitable organizations to raise the necessary funds to sustain their mission. However, if you are older than 70 ½ there is a way to increase your yearly offerings to St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church by using untaxed IRA retirement funds and lowering your Adjusted Gross Income. A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) can only be done on or after the date on which you turn 70 ½. At that point, you can make Qualified Charitable Distributions to qualified charities totaling up to $100,000 a year from your IRA. None of your QCD is treated as taxable income, yet it counts toward your required minimum distribution. For the donation to qualify as a QCD, the check must be payable to a qualified charity, not to you. If you take a check made payable to you from your IRA and then donate the money to the charity, the full amount of the check is taxable to you as ordinary income. Make sure that your IRA investment company makes the check payable to St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church and note that it is from your account so St. Paul will know where the money came from. For example: Your pledged amount to St. Paul is $2,000.00 per year and your federal tax rate is 25%. In order to make this $2,000.00 contribution, it is necessary to withdraw $2,667.00 from your IRA to yield the $2,000.00 after tax contribution. Why not make a $2,667.00 contribution to St. Paul and avoid giving the $667.00 to the IRS? See your tax professional or call your IRA investment company for more details on how you and St. Paul might benefit from a Qualified Charitable Distribution. Your continued support in keeping your pledge up to date is what helps to keep us going... The Messenger September 2018 6
