The contrasts between Saul and David are obvious. Saul measures everything by a carnal understanding of externals. David measures things by faith.

I m Just One Introduction 1. Have you ever thought to yourself I m just one. I don t have great talents. There are many others. Someone else can do better than me. My work, my efforts, my contributions aren t that significant? 2. Have you imagined that no one will notice if you aren t there and don t get involved? 3. You know what? You do matter and the work that you do does make a difference! A. Every Christian is very important to God and God needs everyone! If you have ever felt that I m just one, perhaps you need to spend some time reflecting on God s Word. 4. This morning, I want us to examine some Bible characters who made a difference to God and to countless others. Bible Examples of One Elijah 1. Elijah withstood 450 prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel and felt that he alone was left. 1 Kings 19:11-14 A. Although he thought he was the only one speaking for God, God reassured him that there were others. Romans 11:3-4 "LORD, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life" But what does the divine response say to him? "I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal." I m Just One 1

Noah 1. Noah was a righteous man who found grace in the eyes of the Lord. (Gen 6:8). A. God was angry with the human race that he had created because every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (Gen 6:5). 2. Noah was ONE man who listened to God and obeyed Him. Genesis 7:1-5 Joseph A. Noah saved a human race from total destruction in the global flood 1) One man made a difference We are here because of him. 1. Joseph overcame being sold as a slave, rose to high office in Egypt, and ultimately helped his entire family in the midst of a terrible famine. Genesis 37:4, 25-30; 39:1-3; 47:13 Moses 1. Moses stood up to Pharaoh and delivered the children of Israel from bondage. Gideon A. He knew that God was with him and he trusted in God. He was not afraid to confront the ruler of Egypt. 1. Went into battle with only 300 men against a multitude of men. Judges 7:1-7, 12 I m Just One 2

Joshua and Caleb 1. Twelve spies went into the land of Canaan and only two, Joshua and Caleb came back with a good report. David A. They trusted in God to deliver them from the people in the land. They stood up against opposition from their own brethren. Numbers 14:6-10 1. One little shepherd boy, David, defeated the Philistine giant Goliath. A. In the process, he encouraged the army of Israel to a major victory over the Philistines. 1 Samuel 17:50-52 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David. Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it. And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled. Now the men of Israel and Judah arose and shouted, and pursued the Philistines as far as the entrance of the valley and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell along the road to Shaaraim, even as far as Gath and Ekron. Queen Esther 1. She saved the Jews from Haman s plot to have them all killed. Esther 4:7-14 A. She was faced with an important decision. She was ONE who was willing to stand before the king. B. God used Esther for this time in history. If not her, it would have been someone else. I m Just One 3

Nehemiah 1. This man of God single-handedly motivated and led the people to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. A. He did so even against severe persecution. Nehemiah 2:11-20 Nehemiah 4:6 So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work. Jesus 1. Our ultimate example, Jesus Christ, suffered and died alone so that you and I could be forgiven of our sins and have the hope of heaven in eternity! A. The pain and anguish that he went through on our behalf was an awful thing but He did it because He loved us! Matthew 27:27-50 1 John 4:19 We love Him because He first loved us. Conclusion 1. The next time that you start thinking I m just one My work doesn t matter, remember, in the history of God s people, is the history of a faithful few, who did what they could to serve Him! 2. I want to encourage all of us to be busy for God and His kingdom while we have the opportunity to do so on this earth. A. ONE person can make a big difference! Are you up to the challenge? 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
