JULY 2014 Monthly Publication of Garden City Baptist Church Pastorgraph... Volume 27 Number 7 Take Time We have much to be thankful and praise God for as we move into July. In last month s The Link we shared the Biblical Plan to buy a new bus. That TWBB plan was carried out by all those who prayer and gave. Our gifts and pledges paid for the bus in less than three weeks! No wonder the people of God in I Chronicles 29 ate and drank with great joy in the presence of the Lord. (I Chronicles 29:22) Here are the principles we followed: 1. All the congregation is to be involved. (29:1) 2. The work is too great for an individual. (29:1) 3. The work is for the Lord the bus is a tool of ministry. (29:1) 4. Commitment is personal (29:3) there is to be equal sacrifice, not equal gifts. Gifts are over and above regular giving. Everything comes from the Lord. (29:14) 5. Who is willing? (29:5-9) It is a free-will offering. (29:17) 6. There are joyful results. (29:17; 22) 7. Prayer is essential. (29:18) 8. All will be blessed and all will praise the Lord. (29:20) Our Victory Lunch will be after the morning worship service on July 6th. All are invited to share in this celebration. The meal of burgers and hotdogs is the church s treat. Take time to smell the flowers the age-old saying goes-behold the fragrant lily Caress a velvet rose. But as we stop and contemplate The beauty that we see Do we really realize Just how they came to be. One word from our Creator And he formed the rolling sea The massive, mighty giant oaks The small anemone. So as we stop to smell the flowers Give thanks that God s so good To give us all this beauty So He d be better understood. JOY Fellowship NO MEETING IN JULY The bus committee members that served with me to find and buy the bus are Danny Miller, Bill Payne, Alek Beri, James Walker, and Tim Harrelson. I would like to extend a special thanks to each of them for their constructive suggestions and input to identify the options we wanted and especially the options that we did not want during our search. Many hours were spent researching dealerships and their inventories on the internet and by phone. I prayed a lot for God's guidance and I truly feel that he led us to the bus we purchased and furnished the funds through our church membership. I would also like to thank the church members that attended the church conference on June 22nd. Several members suggested that, since God blessed us with our new bus and the funds to purchase it, we should donate our old bus to Meridzo Ministries in Lynch Ky. A church bus has been on their wish/needs list for several years. After some discussion, I made the motion that we sell our old bus to Meridzo Ministries for $1. The motion passed and I will deliver it on July 2nd when our puppet team goes to Lynch on our mission trip. When I told Lonnie Riley at Meridzo Ministries of our decision he was speechless. He thanked God and us for this gift to their ministry. For those of you who made the monthly pledge for the next year, please honor your pledge. The finance Committee used other church funds to finish paying for the bus. Your pledge money each month go to reimburse those church funds. It is amazing how God works when we get out of His way and just follow His leadership! Alan Cooper Transportation Committee Chairman Explore the Bible: Hebrews: Chapters 1-7 (Dr. David Jeremiah) Group Bible Study starting in July introduces the Book of Hebrews and gives encouragement and hope to believers. The context of the original audience indicates that these early followers of Jesus were contemplating abandoning their faith so the writer of Hebrews exhorts them to trust in Jesus in the midst of persecution and hard times. These words are just as faithful and true for believers today and the study will help those who face hardships in following Jesus.
