Jean Schaeffer and Ann Shank will present a program on "100 Years of Schooling in Floyd County Beginning in the 1800s." They are encouraging people who attended or taught at any small schools in Floyd County to attend the meeting. There will be time at the end of the program to share information about your experiences. Please bring photographs of the schools to share. A map is being constructed showing the locations of all known schools in Floyd County. Ridgemont 100th Birthday Celebration Mark your calendar for August 16, 2014. We are holding the Ridgemont 100 Year Birthday Celebration from 1-4 pm at the Museum. We will be honoring the doctors past and present of Floyd County. Gino Williams will be the featured speaker. built in Floyd. It was built by Lather Hylton for Dr. Martin L. Dalton. Dr. Silas T. Yeatts worked at Ridgemont until 1949 when Miss Marie Williams purchased the building for her home. We extend a special invitation to all the descendants of Floyd doctors and the builders of Ridgemont to attend. Civil War Living History Day at the Phlegar House Floyd County Historical Society, Floyd County Sesquicentennial Committee, and Floyd County Historic Preservation Trust sponsored the 3rd Annual Living History Day at Phlegar House May 10. Even though it rained again this year, the event was enjoyed by the attendees. Thank you to all who helped and attended. Groups involved included:14 th Virginia Cavalry, 60 th Virginia Infantry, Hamilton Wade 949 United Daughters of the Confederacy Christiansburg, VA, Fincastle Rifles Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stuart s Horse Artillery Sons of Confederate Veterans and several other groups. The Ridgemont was the first hospital ever

chestnut by local artist Ron Campbell. Our own board member, Margaret Smith, painted an original scene for us to hang in the room. Also for the room, she colored one of the Floyd County maps that Pat Lawson and Marguerite Tise created. Pictured below are the photographs before they were framed. The room features 2 queen beds, desk and 2 club chairs. Thanks to Gary Gray for the cannon Original Painting by Margaret Smith Typical Floyd scene Hotel Floyd Room 114 Hotel Floyd has opened the newest addition to the Hotel and Floyd County Historical Society was honored to help decorate Room 114. Remember to ask for this room when making reservations. The prints represent historical aspects of Floyd. They were all framed in historic wormy Brame Hotel

There has been a new printing of the book Images of America Floyd County It is available for $23.00 at the Museum. Add $3.50 shipping and handling, if mailed. Christmas is just around the corner and this book makes a great gift. The current World War II exhibit will be extended another year at the Museum. We have received so many items after the exhibit was in place that we have decided to replace some items in 2015, but keep the same theme for another year.
