YOUTH GROUP DEVOTIONS

SAT/SUN - WE MUST SEE THE ONE TRUE LIGHT MAIN IDEA: The Spiritual Restoration Process starts by giving our lives to Christ. MAIN PASSAGES: Acts 9:1-5 MAIN CHALLENGE: Come to Christ or believers are to refocus one s life on Christ. 1. Tonight we looked at the life of Saul and discussed some of the things he did to hurt and stop Christianity. What do we learn about the love God has for all people as he sought to restore Saul (a Christian killer)? 2. We also talked about how Jesus claims to be the Light. Read John 12:36 and discuss what it means to be a child of the Light. 3. What are some things satan is using as fake lights in our community and with our students? 4. What are some ways we make sure we are not chasing after fake lights? Read 1 Peter 5:8-9. 5. What are some ways we can help others (our family, friends, etc ) see the true Light?» Ask if there was anyone who made a decision and wants to share that decision so everyone can celebrate! As a group,» Wrap up the discussion by praying for everyone to see the true Light and shine it brightly this week. Pray that we will not be distracted by satan and his traps. 2018 MISSION SERVE YOUTH GROUP DEVOTIONS -- 1

SUN/MON - WE MUST WALK IN OBEDIENCE MAIN IDEA: Following Christ requires us to walk in complete obedience to Jesus Christ. MAIN PASSAGES: Acts 9:6-17 MAIN CHALLENGE: To see and live out our faith through total obedience to Jesus Christ. 1. We saw God call two men to go in Acts 9:6-17. Who do you think was more fearful of going Saul or Ananias? Why do you think that? Remember Saul was blinded and now listening to the voice of the one he had sought to destroy. Ananias was now being sent to the one who killed his people - Christians. 2. Read the following verses and explain ways that we can trust God no matter what we are called to do. Proverbs 3:5-6, Romans 15:13 3. How does satan tempt us when it comes to obeying God? 4. How serious is God about us obeying Him? Read the follow verses 1 Samuel 15:22, John 14:15-17, 24 5. What are some ways we can encourage other followers to obey God and His Word?» Wrap up the discussion by praying for everyone to trust and obey this week. Pray that we will not be selfish but will be totally selfless as we work and serve this week to meet needs, show Jesus, and share Jesus. 2018 MISSION SERVE YOUTH GROUP DEVOTIONS -- 2

MON/THURS - WE MUST LIVE SPIRIT FILLED LIVES MAIN IDEA: The only way we can live the life God desires for each of us is through the Holy Spirit. MAIN PASSAGES: Acts 9:17-19 MAIN CHALLENGE: Live a Spirit-filled and Spirit-guided life. 1. What are some false thoughts or ideas that some people have about the Holy Spirit? 2. Read Romans 8:11-12. How does it make you feel to know that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us? 3. 1 Thessalonians 5:19 states, Do not quench the Spirit or some translations state, Do not put out the Spirit s fire. What are some things we do to quench the Spirit? 4. How would our youth group and our community be different in each and every one of us truly lived Spirit filled lives? 5. What are some ways we can help others gain a true understanding of the Holy Spirit?» Wrap up the discussion by praying for everyone to seek the Spirit and be led by the Spirit this week. Pray that we will not live according to our own thoughts or feelings but we will be obedient to do whatever the Spirit of God leads us to do. Pray that that the Spirit of God would flow in our lives and through our lives. 2018 MISSION SERVE YOUTH GROUP DEVOTIONS -- 3

TUES - CONCERT OF PRAYER EXPLANATION: This week we are focusing on the spiritual restoration of Saul so we will use his (Paul) writings and prayers as the guide for our Concert of prayer. We will focus on 4 different aspects during this time. The first aspect is the Glory of God. The second aspect is the Grace of God. The third aspect is the Generosity of God. The last aspect is the Guidance of God. 1. Tonight we removed a lot of distractions and it seems God s voice was louder. What are some things that seem to be distracting us from hearing from God on a regular basis? 2. There was some prayers tonight of just praising God for His goodness. Too often our prayers treat God like He is a wishing well and we just make request after request. How can we learn to be more grateful and thankful for the things God provides? 3. Read James 5:16. How can we be better at praying for our struggling brothers and sisters? 4. Read 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. It is possible to pray without ceasing? 5. What are some things we can do to help younger Christians learn how to pray?» Wrap up the discussion by praying for God s Spirit to continue to work and transform lives this week. Pray for everyone at the project to continue to work hard with the construction/ministry as well as the witnessing and sharing the Gospel. 2018 MISSION SERVE YOUTH GROUP DEVOTIONS -- 4

THURS - WE MUST PREACH JESUS WITH OUR LIVES MAIN IDEA: Jesus calls us to go and be His hands and feet to the world around us. MAIN PASSAGES: Acts 9:20-22 MAIN CHALLENGE: Live a life that demonstrates the true character of Christ to other. 1. What do you think are some of the things Christians do that turn people away from Christ and his Church? 2. Read 1 John 2:6. What does this look like in our town, at our school, in our homes? 3. Why does it seem to be so difficult to make the right choices that reflect Jesus? 4. Read Psalms 119:9-11. What are some practical ways we can keep ourselves on the right path and headed in the right direction (It s not enough to just abstain from evil. We are called to go and do good). 5. What are some ways we can help others understand the importance of having Godly actions?» Wrap up the discussion by praying for us to be wise and make good choices. Pray that we will change the way we feel and the way we think about serving and living for God. Pray for protection as we set out to do good deeds on a daily basis. Pray for us to see the opportunities that God is placing before us. 2018 MISSION SERVE YOUTH GROUP DEVOTIONS -- 5

FRI - WE MUST SERVE TOGETHER TO HELP OTHERS RECEIVE HIS SPIRITUAL RESTORATION MAIN IDEA: God calls us to be a body as we spread His love and story, serve others, and make disciples. MAIN PASSAGES: Acts 9:23-31 MAIN CHALLENGE: We must work together and stay focused on the most important things: sharing/showing His love and making disciples (people who accept Christ, grow in Him, and make disciples of Him). 1. Do you think we have failed at making disciples of all nations? 2. What are some ways that we can do a better job at working together as a Student Ministry to impact our own community? 3. Read Philippians 2:1-11. How can we get a better attitude and mindset about being servants of Christ? 4. Read Matthew 28:18-20 & Acts 1:8. What are some ways God has equipped us to make disciples of all nations? 5. What do you think is the greatest hindrance of us making disciples?» Wrap up the discussion by praying that everyone would be serious and intentional about making disciples. Pray that as we leave, this community will think of Jesus every time they see some of the work that we have done. Pray for our work to continue as we head back to our homes. 2018 MISSION SERVE YOUTH GROUP DEVOTIONS -- 6
