office@crownoflifechurch.org 248-652-7720 December 2017 Newsletter Jesus is the Reason for the Season As we enter into the preparatory season of Advent, that time in the church year that allows for added reflection and repentance; as well as a time to reflect on Christ s first coming and prepare ourselves for His second coming, let the sights of Christmas also prepare you. The candy cane is also the letter J for Jesus. The red and white stripes remind us of our forgiveness and Christ s sacrifice. If the cane has 3 stripes close together this symbolizes the Trinity. The Christmas Tree is evergreen, reminding us of eternal life and comes to a point on top to draw our glance to heaven. Lights remind us that Jesus is the light of the world. Ornaments remind us of the majesty and beauty of Christ. Have a blessed and joyous Christmas. Pastor Norm Koy (PK) opening service. Pastor Otten performing the rite of Installation. Acting like monkeys in the rain forest, wearing the masks that we made. Sloths in the rain forest spend most of their time hanging upside down. We created our upside down art by drawing on paper taped to the underside of the table. We also learned about Michelangelo painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

DECEMBER 2017 ISSUE 12 Preschool at Bower s Farm. (Below left) Exploring the maze. (Below right) Wagon rides are great fun.. Join us to decorate the Christmas tree. December 10th Following worship and fellowship. Crown of Life's "Woman of the Year"- Congr atulations to Joyce Bane who is Cr own's "Woman of the Year" for 2017! Joyce has been an active member serving in many areas of the church. One of the most visible is that she has sang in the choir for many years. Mark your calendar for March 20, 2018 if you would like to join us at the luncheon in honor of Joyce and the other special women nominated from each of their churches. Thank you Joyce for your willingness to serve your Lord here at Crown of Life! Ring the Bell for the Salvation Army! We would like to volunteer again to r ing a bell for the Salvation Army s Red Kettle program. On average, a volunteer bell ringer raises $53 per hour. The Salvation Army is able to give a person shelter for a night and 3 meals for every hour the bell is rung. Our station will be the Kroger s at Adams and Silver Bell on Thursday, December 7th. We will ring from 11 a.m. through 8 p.m. in one hour shifts. Find a friend and sign up to ring. Aprons and bells will be provided and all we need are smiling faces and thank you with a Merry Christmas attached. The signup is posted in the narthex. See Don Pell if you have any questions. Cleaning Help Needed: Anyone inter ested in cleaning Cr own of Life Chur ch and Preschool one day a week with flexible hours, please contact the office at 248-652-7720 or office@crownoflifechurch.org.

Fellowship FAQ Join us every Sunday following the service. Is someone setting things up? No one is designated to set things up. We want to keep this event simple. Please place your treat on the table in the fellowship room. It is fine to place items in the fridge and you may finish preparation later. Can we use church items? Yes, you may use Crown of Life platters and utensils. Is someone responsible to clean up? No one is designated. Please clean up after yourself. What if I am the only one signed up do I need to provide more food for everybody? We will use what you provide and use what is available to supplement. Help us by supplying a treat.

Gifts For All God s Children News: Shop for a Child at Christmas- Each year, Crown members have helped sponsor our children at Christmas. As in years past, if you can provide presents for needy children this Christmas, please select one or more ID Tags from the tree in the narthex. The tags with the same colored ribbon belong to siblings in the same family. Maybe you and a friend or another family member could adopt an entire family this year. This would help us to clear all the tags from our tree! Before leaving church, remember to fill out and cut off the top portion of the tag with your information and leave it in the basket on the credenza. Also pick up the direction sheet which gives you important information about what to do! If you have questions, Charlotte Bachelard and Edwina Griem are heading up this outreach project. Volunteers Needed at the Christmas Workshop- We could use your help with shopping and wrapping gifts for children who aren t sponsored by families at churches and organizations. Last year, this was just over 1,500 children! We are blessed to be back at Living Word Lutheran Church at 3838 N. Rochester Road again this year. Join us anytime during our Christmas Workshop Schedule which is given below. This is a wonderful time of the year to give thanks for the miracle of Christ s birth by serving at-risk children. If you have any questions, contact Judy Mann at 248-860-0913. Christmas Workshop Schedule Mondays-Thursdays Dec. 4-7. Dec. 11-14 8:30 p.m. Dec. 4 7 Dec. 11 14 Crown Jewels Service Outreach for December- The Crown Jewels end the year with an activity that benefits Gifts For All God s Children and the at-risk children they serve at Christmas. Each year for the past several years the ladies have volunteered their time wrapping gifts at the Christmas workshop. This year we wrap on Tuesday, December 5 from 10-noon. This is a wonderful way to end our year s activities. There is a signup sheet (more details included) on the Crown Jewels Board in the narthex. Please join us! These would be for the children who s ID Tags do not get taken off trees like ours in various churches, organizations and businesses. Following the wrapping activity Jane Baum invites us for lunch to her home at 4032 Royal Cove Dr. in Shelby. Youth of Crown of Life, You re Invited!: Living Word Lutheran Church has invited Crown of Life youth (5 th grade through high school) to their youth Christmas party. They will have food and Christmas themed games and activities. The party will be at Living Word Lutheran Church 3838 North Rochester Road in Rochester Hills. It will be on Sunday, December 17 th and start at 6:00 pm and go until about 9:00 pm. If you are interested in attending or have more questions, please contact Mrs. Bellow (248) 563-0912 or Kathybellow@gmail.com. Continue to check emails for updates on the event. It sounds like a great time. We hope you can attend. Stewardship: Your commitment to God with your time, your talent and your treasure. The Lord has blessed you in ways to enrich His plan. As the Church year winds down and we approach the Advent season, this is the perfect time for us to reflect and renew our commitment to the Lord. You received a copy of the contributions-to-date and a pledge card for 2018. After prayerful reflection, this pledge should be returned on December 3rd at our Annual Voter s Meeting.
