North Greenville University Where Christ Makes the Difference Praise Band Expectations The Praise Band is a ministry team of North Greenville University. Its purpose is to make a difference for Christ through worship by exalting the Savior, evangelizing the lost, and equipping and encouraging believers in their faith. The team represents the Lord, North Greenville University, and the Baptist Student Union in all that they do. Individual decisions and activities are a reflection of the student s commitment to the Lord, the ministry, the university and BSU. Therefore the following expectations must be upheld. Spiritual Life Daily Prayer and Bible Study Two fundamental spiritual disciplines are prayer and Bible study. Through prayer Christians communicate with God. Through his word God speaks to his people. Seeking the Lord daily is essential to knowing and doing the will of God. Every team member must take responsibility for keeping a vibrant, growing relationship with the Lord. Church Attendance When not traveling, team members are expected to attend local church services as regularly as possible. Believers who do not attend a local church need to confess the sins of arrogance and spiritual pride. BSU Attendance Personal Life BSU sponsors the Praise Band. Team members must attend at least 75% of regular BSU meetings (3 out of 4). Team leaders must attend at least 90% of regular BSU meetings (9 out of 10). Exceptions will only be made for approved, required classes that meet during BSU. Your Witness Be a Christ follower, living as an example to others at all time. Reach out in friendship to everyone on and off campus; avoid being a part of exclusive cliques. Academic Guidelines A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 is required at the end of each semester. If you fall below a 2.0 at the end of a semester, you will be placed on probation. If you remain below 2.0 at the end of the next semester you will be suspended from the group. Grades must be a priority! Male/Female Relationships Team members must control the physical aspect of their relationships. Public displays of affection must be avoided in all ministry settings and on campus to protect the reputations of the Lord, team members, and the ministry. Never allow relationship problems to impact your ministry.

If a dating relationship develops between two team members, they must be just friends when visiting a church or ministry setting. It is generally best if your NGU love does not follow the band to events. Occasional visits are fine. Please check with the director before inviting your love interest along. Personal Money Do not carry large sums of money on the road. If money or equipment is lost or stolen, you alone must be responsible for it. Keep a close watch on wallets, handbags, instruments, and music equipment Major Things to Avoid Smoking, drinking, chewing, dipping, back-biting, sexual misconduct, and bad attitudes are prohibited. Team members should avoid dance halls (local or distant). Students must abide by the guidelines found in the current student handbook, The Enlightener, at all times. Take Care of Yourself Being a Team Player Be On Time The health of team members is extremely important. Don t drink after someone who is sick. Always dress in a way that is appropriate for the weather. Always plan to be early! It is a good practice to be ten minutes early for everything. Tardiness demonstrates arrogance and disrespect for other members of the team. Dealing with Problems Team problems should never be evident to others. Problems should be addressed promptly and in a Christ-like manner. When a misunderstanding develops: 1) Pray and ask God to reveal how you have contributed to the problem. 2) Repent of your contribution to the problem. 3) Talk privately with the person with whom you have the problem. 4) If you cannot find a workable solution, ask your team leader to help you. 5) If you still have a problem, schedule a meeting with the director or manager of the team. Avoid problems by: Doing what you are asked to do the first time. Refusing to be selfish. Respecting others and using good manners. Accountability All team members must abide by these expectations at all times, on and off campus, or face suspension from the group and forfeiture of their scholarship. Preparation (Pray, Plan, and Organize EVERYTHING) Be ready!

Know your music. Plan testimonies, introductions, invitations before you leave campus! Rehearsals and Team Meetings Appearance Attendance is not an option; it is required. You are responsible for knowing your schedule. Schedule changes will be made available as soon as possible. Always be ready to work. Earring Policy Male team members are prohibited from wearing earrings on or off campus. Female members are permitted to have pierced ears in moderation. No other body piercing is allowed. Hair Males should avoid the use of hair dye products. Females should avoid extreme colors which may distract or draw attention to themselves. Team members must focus on drawing attention to Christ, not to themselves. Dress First impressions are important; remember you represent the King of kings. Socks and shoes are not optional. Ripped or soiled clothing is not acceptable. No hats allowed inside anywhere. Exercise good judgment and modesty at all times. Vehicles and NGU Resources Drivers Drivers will be selected by the manager. Only those chosen will be given permission to drive university vehicles. Drivers must exercise extreme caution. Everyone will pay their own speeding tickets. Vehicle Care Our vehicles are a gift from God and should be treated as such. Always lock the vehicles. Trash and personal items must be removed from the vehicle when you depart from it. Credit Cards, Keys, and Cash Exercise great care in handling the Lord s money. Always handle NGU credit cards, keys, and cash with extreme care. Return these items as soon as you return to the campus or the next time that the BSU office will be open. Be sure to turn in all receipts! Sound Equipment The sound engineer is responsible for the maintenance and proper care of the sound equipment. No other individual is to operate or adjust sound, unless authorized by the sound engineer, team leader, or director. All members will be assigned various duties in setting up and taking down equipment.

In the Church or Ministry Setting Never Attack the Building When the team arrives, only those so directed will enter the building. The remainder of the band will remain in the vehicles and await further instruction. Cell Phone Use Leave cell phones in the vehicle. Ringers should always be off in a church or ministry setting. Cell phones should be used only for emergencies after arriving at a ministry setting. Respect Church Property Never wrestle or throw things in the church. Meals Always remember ladies go first. Eat what is put before you politely, even when it is not your favorite or you had it for lunch. Refrain from pigging out! Always thank the host/hostess for the meal. Meals are pre-arranged and must be attended by all members. Always drop everything and eat when called by the host (unless extreme time problems dictate otherwise). Promoting NGU North Greenville University has made a significant investment in the Praise Band. Telling others about NGU is an important part of our ministry. The team should make materials for prospective students available. Be ready to talk with prospective students, their parents, and/or grandparents about NGU. Ask interested junior, seniors, graduates, and transfers to fill out prospect cards. Turn these in to the manager upon return to the college. In Homes Accommodations on the road are usually in homes (nights in motels will occasionally occur). Arrangements are made in advance by the manager. Requests for other arrangements must be made at least two weeks before the event date. Respect your hosts. Refrain from calling other team members unless it is absolutely necessary. Avoid long boyfriend/girlfriend conversations. Get your rest! Go to bed early. Some hosts may want to stay up late. Politely excuse yourself and head to bed. Leave every area of the home cleaner than you found it. Clean up hair, nails, toothpaste, shaving cream, etc. in the bathrooms. Make up the bed before you leave. Make plans for the next morning with your host before going to bed. You should discuss breakfast time and leaving time prior to retiring. Carry an alarm clock. Inform your host as to the time you need to wake up, but do not depend on them alone to be your alarm clock. Always bring luggage and belongings with you back to the church. Always leave a thank you note for your host. Your team leader will have NGU note cards for this purpose.

All standards apply on and off campus. Violation of any of the above may result in temporary or permanent suspension from the group. I have been advised of the Joyful Sound expectations and I understand that the rules apply to me, as well as every other team member. I agree to use these expectations as a guideline for my personal conduct while serving on the team. PRINT NAME SIGNATURE DATE
