NOTES APPLYING FOR ADMISSION Students seeking admission to MCCM should keep in mind the aims and objectives of the college when making application. These objectives is outlined in this catalog. Submit an application for admission and evaluation of past credits to the registrar s office. A one time non-refundable fee is required with the application. Request that an official high school transcript be sent directly to the registrar s office along with an official transcript of college credits if applying as a transfer student. Anyone who has not completed high school but would like to attend MCCM is welcomed as an auditing student. If you have audited courses from MCCM, to receive college credit for courses taken, the student must be a high school graduate or have a GED certificate and have paid the difference between auditing a course and taking the course for credit. COURSE WORK Basis of Credit: Maranatha College of Christian Ministries operates on the semester system. Credit for work completed is expressed in semester hours. COURSE NUMBERING SYSTEM The number of credit hours for each course is Identified in the last digit of the course number. For example, the course number of English Composition I is ENGL 1113. The first digit shows that this is a freshman level course and the middle two numbers are course differentiation numbers.
LIFE EXPERIENCE Credit may be given for life experience in which the student can give evidence of knowledge gained in work, church activities or other sources. Past experience as a pastor, evangelist or some type of church leader may apply. This credit will be limited to the selected areas or electives within a program of study. A committee made up of the president, vice president and registrar will carefully evaluate each students request to receive credit under life experience and approve or disapprove such credit. Up to 36 credits can be given toward a bachelor s degree program. DECLARATION OF A MAJOR Upon the completion of a Certificate in Bible, the student must declare a degree program of study by a letter of notification. This letter is to be a part of the individual s personal academic record. There is no time limit for the completion of a major. It will be up to the student to establish his or her own graduation goals. COSTS Maranatha College is a non-profit school, committed to delivering a high quality, low cost educational program to all of its students. Our fees are among the lowest in the nation. No Refund: After the end of the fourth week of classes ACCREDITATION Maranatha College of Christian Ministries is a non-accredited college. It is incorporated by the State of Virginia for the purpose of conducting its educational program and issuing of certificates and degrees. It is recognized by the Appalachian Conference of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church and the General Education Program of the IPHC for the purpose of conducting educational programs for training laymen and ministers. Southwestern Graduate School, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma will accept graduates on a 3 month probation basis for entrance into the graduate school. If the student has performed according to the institutions academic standards, they can be admitted as a candidate for degree student.
SCHOLASTIC STANDARDS Grading System. The following grades are used to denote the quality of work done in a course. The quality points are numerical weights which are assigned to grades as follows. Incomplete. A grade of I (incomplete) may be given when all requirements in a course have not been completed due to circumstances beyond the student s control. All arrangements must be made by the student and the instructor. Course work to satisfy the I must be completed within the first four weeks following the close of the semester in which the I was given. Exceptions must be approved by the Dean of Instruction. If the work is not completed by the deadline, a grade will be issued by the instructor based upon the course requirements which were completed. The grade issued for the I should be filed immediately by the instructor in the registrar s office on a Request for Change of Grade form. LEAD 6103 ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES Sound administrative principles and effective ways to lead the local church into a vibrant, dynamic community of faith touching and changing the world are examined. Three Hours Credit. LEAD 6104 PERSONAL DISCIPLINES OF A LEADER The personal growth and professional development of a leader are emphasized in this practical course. Characteristics of successful leaders are studied and applied to the leader s personal life. Three Hours Credit. LEAD 6105 EQUIPPING AND RELEASING LEADERSHIP The leadership selection process, discipline, mentoring, and relational empowerment of emerging leaders are vital aspects of this course. The discovery of one s spiritual gifts and their release through various ministry opportunities enable the church to fully function as a dynamic body. Three Hours Credit. LEAD 6106 MINISTRY APPLICATION PROJECT (MAP) The MAP project is the culminating capstone learning experience of the curriculum. It is coordinated with the student s present and projected ministry so immediate practical value is gained through the discipline of writing the project. The applications project is mutually worked out between the student, the MAP director which is the current Dean of Academics of MCCM. DISTANT LEARNING Any class that is listed in the catalog can be taught by the Dean of Academics through distant learning.
EVANG 5104 EVANGELISM AND OUTREACH Various types of evangelism and outreach are studied to enhance the mission, growth and impact of the local church in a community. Outreach to all segments of society and ethnic groups is stressed so the church is faithful to the Great Commission. Three Hours Credit. PMIN 5105 DEVELOPING THE HEALTHY LEADER This course assists students in establishing a good self identity through understanding who they are in Christ. Personal issues and practices are examined in light of God s word. Bondages from past heritages, models and thought patterns are overcome to bring freedom and fulfill destiny. Three Hours Credit. PMIN 5106 PASTORIAL CARE This course seeks to integrate all the functions and practices of pastoral ministry into wholeness for healthy individuals and the local body. Included are critical issues in counseling, different methodologies, and the pastor s personal relationships so integrity and ministry are safe guarded. Three Hours Credit TRANSFER OF CREDITS Course work done at colleges, Bible schools, and universities may be transferred to the college for credit, provided such work meets a scholastic minimum standard of C. A student in the one year program and two year program must earn a minimum of 18 semester hours at MCCM. A student in a degree program must earn a minimum of 36 semester hours at MCCM. To receive a certificate or degree all students must meet the course requirements of MCCM. Transfer of Credits from MCCM to another college is strictly at the discretion of the Institution which is doing the evaluation. There is no guarantee that any college will accept the credit for work completed at MCCM. Release of transcripts will be issued upon request by the student. Any student who has not paid all of their financial obligations will not be given a transcript until their obligations are met. The fee for a transcript is $5.00 after the first free copy. Expedited transcripts can be obtained for $15.00. LEAD 6101 SPIRITUAL FORMATION OF A LEADER The processes of God in the development of Godly leaders are studied. Examples are drawn from the scriptures and life to provide case studies of God s ways. Patterns such as timelines, developmental phases, process items, convergence, gift mix, character formation, spiritual authority, and leaving a lasting legacy comprise units of this course. LEAD 6102 SPIRITUAL WARFARE The relationship between spirituality and ministry is studied with the goal of equipping students to function in ministry leadership with the strengths of a strong prayer life and spirituality. Setting priorities between personal, family, and ministry demands are examined. This course also explores aspects of spiritual warfare that are essential for a church to be effective in the church, city, and nation is established. Three Hours Credit Scholarships Scholarships are available for ministerial candidates and Ordained ministers in the Appalachian Conference of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church at the time of printing of this catalog. Please call the conference office for details. Pastors and ministerial candidates may petition there respective church boards to compensate them for continuing education at MCCM. It is solely up to the pastor of the local church and their board if they will scholarship the student for MCCM.
CALENDAR Maranatha College is on a semester system. Fifteen hours of class work or its equivalent constitutes one semester hour credit. The calendar will generally run as follows: 2 nd Monday of January Spring Semester begins 2 nd Monday of April Summer Semester begins 2 nd Monday of September Fall Semester begins A student who plans to graduate from Maranatha College of Christian Ministries must fulfill the requirements and evaluation procedures for his or her chosen program. The following requirements are mandatory: At least a 2.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average in work done at Maranatha College of Christian Ministries. A minimum of 36 Semester Hours of Courses taken at Maranatha College of Christian Ministries. A Christian testimony consistent with scripture and adherence with the basic creed of MCCM. Completion of all course work, practicum and internship requirements. All students graduating from MCCM must attend the graduation ceremony. Degrees and certificates will not be awarded in absentia without approval of the MCCM Executive Board. Any student with a 3.5 grade point average or higher will be considered an Honor Student. LEADERSHIP MASTERS DISTANT LEARNING This curriculum is designed for the Bible student that wishes to go deeper in their studies, but cannot attend Southwestern Christian University due to finances or constraints on travel or time. This course of study in no way is meant to substitute for a degree at SCU, it is simply is an outlet for student where SCU is not a viable option. The Masters is a 36 hour course broken down in 12 classes to be taken over a period of 2 years. There is no life experience or transfer credits available for this program and all 12 classes must be taken in order. They are: BIBL 5101 BIBLICAL THEOLOGY This course surveys the history of biblical interpretation with attention to contemporary methods. Issues of authority and inspiration are examined and applied to today s ministry context. It requires a major interpretation project in both Old and New Testaments. Three Hours Credit. WORSHIP 5102 PRAISE AND WORSHIP This course is an investigation of the role of worship in the life of the church, emphasizing the development of a theology of worship. Pentecostal-Charismatic worship and its place in growing churches are emphasized. Practical training is given in how to plan, lead, and flow in a worship service. Three Hours Credit. GROW 5103 CHURCH GROWTH AND REVITIALIZATION This course surveys the Biblical, theological, and sociological principles in a scientific study of church growth. Statistical analysis of the positive and negative factors of growth theories are applied to local congregations. Emphasis is placed on students ability to do research methodology in order to develop healthy churches. Three Hours Credit.
MISSIONS COURSES MISS 1003 LIFESTYLE EVANGELISM - Explores the many ways in which personal witnessing can be done. Emphasis is on developing a method of being able to witness to people in a variety of situations. Personal soul winning, hospitality, evangelism, and street drama are among the many approaches to evangelism explored in this course. Three Hours Credit MISS 2312 NEW CHURCH PLANTING AND CHURCH DEVELOPMENT -This is a practical application course that gives the fundamentals of planting a church and the process of growth. Church revitalization and renewal is a part of this program. Three hour credit. MISS 2483 INTRODUCTION TO WORLD EVANGELISM - An introductory study of the Biblical basis for the church s mission of world evangelism as depicted in the book of Acts and in the New Testament epistles. An awareness of the many opportunities for sharing the Lord Jesus Christ will be emphasized. The methods of new-field evangelism, church planting and church growth principles will be stressed. MISS 3313 CHURCH GROWTH - A study of principles in church growth with special attention given theological, cultural and indigenous principles which may effect the rate and patterns of church growth; sociological structures of the societies as they affect receptivity and church multiplication and procedures which cause stagnation or acceleration, introversion or expansion. Prerequisite: MISS 2483 Three Hour Credit. DEVELOPMENTAL SEMINARS DEV 1111-4121 DEVELOPMENTAL SEMINARS - Seminars dealing with spiritual, social and moral growth. abortion, war, etc. Credits are assessed according to evaluation by the Dean of Academics. GRADUATION INFORMATION A student having completed the requirements for a degree at MCCM as specified in the MCCM catalog, may apply for graduation Since the program for MCCM is designed for the At Home Student there is no consecutive semester enrollment required. However, MCCM reserves the right to make changes in the curricula or graduation requirements which may be considered necessary for the general improvement of the college or degree program. Degrees are conferred annually during the Appalachian Conference IPHC Camp Meeting. This is normally done on Friday night prior to the start of the evening service. All graduates are required to attend in order to receive their degree. Any student wishing to graduate must contact the Registrar's Office in February of the graduation year in order to receive a full evaluation for degree qualification. All degree requirements must be completed prior to participation in graduation ceremonies. The Dean of Instruction may allow a student to participate pending completion of the requirements If the requirements are not met within one semester, additional requirements may be requested. Graduation In absentia is allowed only in extreme emergencies and/or unusual circumstances. Graduation fees for Maranatha College of Christian Ministries are to be paid prior to graduation. Fees are established by the Board of Regents and reviewed every four years.
Graduation Honors: MCCM honors its graduates who have excelled academically and professionally. The following academic honors are bestowed on qualifying students: Summa Cum Laude: A student whose cumulative grade point aver age is 3.90 or above will be graduated with the honor summa cum laude. This will be distinguished with a gold sash. Magna Cum Laude : A student whose cumulative grade point average is 3.70 3.89 will be graduated with the honor magna cum laude. This will be distinguished with burgundy cords. Cum Laude: A student whose cumulative grade point average is 3.40 3.69 will be graduated with the honor cum laude. PMIN 3533 (PSY 3533) THEORIES AND TECHNIQUES OF COUNSELING -This course is designed to acquaint the student with the major concepts and practices of conversational therapy. The broad goal of the course is to help students understand what counseling is, and what it is not, as well as to help them select wisely from all the theories those aspects which can be incorporated into their own developing, personal style of counseling. In addition, the course will address some of the basic issues in counseling, ethics, and the counselor as a person. Prerequisite: PSY 1213 OR PSY 2113 and Junior standing. Three Hours Credit. PMIN 4523 MINISTERIAL INTERNSHIP - This course is worked out in conjunction with a student, a pastor of a local church and the departmental supervision. Degree in Christian Education Ministries This Bachelor's degree has a major in Bible and a minor in Christian Education. A.A. Associate of Arts This degree allows emphasis in Bible and Christian Education Studies. A.A. Associates of Arts degree in Bible (Prison inmate program) - This degree is specially designed to help rehabilitate people that are incarcerated by the state and federal penal system at a reduced cost. Attention will be given to the history of preaching and sermon types and development in the Christian church. Sermon delivery by the students will occur during the latter part of the semester. ASSOCIATE OF ARTS IN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION MINISTRY (66 Semester Hours Required) The associate of arts program allows the student to achieve two goals. First to establish a strong foundation in Bible studies and secondly to establish an academic foundation in a general education environment. During this time of study, the student can decide which study area of concentration they would like to pursue following this degree. Objectives: To provide the beginning college student with an opportunity to receive a strong, balanced academic program which can lead them in a variety of majors. To assist in acquiring a Christian foundation for living founded in Biblical principles. To utilize an interdisciplinary approach allowing the student to receive a general education in foundational subjects. Associates of Arts in Biblical Studies (Prison Inmate Program) The primary focus of this program is to educate and help rehabilitate prison inmates with the word of God. We firm believe in Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any doubleedged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart NIV. If we as Christians can cause a person to study the word of God deeply and sincerely, God himself will rehabilitate them with His word. Inmates that complete this program will be eligible to enter any Bachelors program at MCCM upon their release from prison. The student will receive 66 hours credit if the complete the following courses: 1. Introductory covers salvation, water baptism, prayer and other basic topics. 2. Christian Living deals with discouragement, doubt, guilt, and discipleship. 3. Christian Living II covers tithing, commitment to the local church, love of the brethren, respecting church leadership, obedience and prayer 4. Christian Living III deals with topics which help to inspire continued growth and maturity in Christ; who we are in Christ, our victory, spiritual warfare, the will of God, and others. 5. Christian Living IV covers adding to our faith, growing in Christ and in fellowship with the Lord, and the rewards of spiritual growth 6. Christian Living V deals with maintaining the correct attitude even in the midst of fiery trials; with a view of God s purpose and plan for the believer. 7. The Gospel of the Kingdom an in-depth study with a new perspective of the aspects of the kingdom of God. 8. Stewardship deals with the responsibilities and rewards of the faithful steward; tithing and the giving of offerings, including firstfruits are also covered. 9. Biblical Prayers I & II an in-depth study of spiritual principles relating to effective prayer, with biblical examples. 10.
