BBC Update BBC/BBTS Labor Day Picnic On September 4, 2017, the Lord gave a beautiful day for the Bible Baptist Church/ Bible Baptist Theological Seminary Labor Day Picnic at the Strouse House. At least ten different churches were represented with some ninety-four attendees. Along with the beautiful day, all enjoyed the testimonies, fellowship, and food. This Labor Day picnic has had a long history going back eighteen years. It was good to fellowship with several Dr. Thomas Strouse pastors such as Dr. Cas Reeves, Pastor Stephen Hinebaugh, and Pastor Dan Herr. Also, a highlight for Heritage Baptist Theological Seminary under the aegis of Heritage Baptist Church was the doctoral dissertation fulfillment of Dr. Keith Main as he presented the bound copies of his 200 page dissertation for signatures while at the picnic. Included in the many in attendance at the picnic were several new members and attendees of Bible Baptist Church. We thank the Lord for a wonderful day. BBC Update Vol. 9 Num. 18 1 Group photo. Five hundred years ago, Oct. 31, 1517, the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) monk Martin Luther posted 95 arguments against the doctrine of indulgences on the Wittenberg Church door and initiated the Protestant Reformation. The reformers were baptized members of the RCC who protested the Pope s encroachment on their respective territories. RCC Leaders in Germany backed Luther while the RCC member Henry the VIII rejected the papal influence in England. Luther was excommunicated out of the visible RCC in 1521 and began the Lutheran Church in 1530. The RCC member Huldrych Zwingli preached reform in 1525 in Zurich, Switzerland. By 1534 Henry VIII decreed the existence of the Church of England. Later RCC member John Calvin controlled Geneva Switzerland with his reformed theology (1541). The RCC reformers continued the RCC ecclesiology of the sacral society, maintaining the manta whose territory his religion. They demanded by physical force the necessity of a national religious leader, religious sacraments which made one right with sacral society, and death to dissidents. The Baptists, of course, rejected the sacral society and practiced believers immersion into visible assemblies. Because Baptists differed with the RCC and with Protestants on the nature of the ecclesia and therefore the mode and meaning of baptism, the former were severely persecuted during the Reformation era by both movements. The entrance into the visible assembly was through profession of faith and water immersion for the Baptists, whereas the RCC and Protestants taught that infants were regenerated in baptism and permitted membership into the state religion. For instance, Luther defended the articles of the authoritative Lutheran Augsburg Confession (1530), including the following: BBTS Fall Lecture Series Article IX: Of Baptism. 1) Of Baptism they [Lutheran churches] teach that it is necessary 2) to salvation, and that through Baptism is offered the grace of God, and that children are to be baptized who, being offered to God through Baptism are received into God s grace. 3) They condemn the Anabaptists, who reject the baptism of children, and say that children are saved without Baptism. Hagglund Visit Visit The initial Reformers (Luther, Zwingli, Calvin, Henry VIII) were exactly that as Catholics they attempted to reform the RCC! There is no unambiguous evidence that they were born-again Christians, but to the contrary their own statements revealed that they promoted baptismal regeneration. The Baptists of that era resisted this reformed RCC sacral religion and quite often it cost these Biblicists dearly. The Bible Baptist Theological Seminary 2017 Fall Lecture Series will present The Baptists and the Reformation lecture (), focusing on the biblical Baptists and their rejection of the scriptural errors that have dominated Protestant denominations and movements such as Fundamentalism. Please plan on attending on Friday, November 10, 2017, from 9 AM to 3 PM at the Courtyard Marriott (4 Sebethe Dr., Cromwell, CT). BBTS Fall Lecture Series 3 Dr. Keith Main Dr. Keith Main holding finished dissertation with Dr. Reeves. Dr. Strouse and Dr. Reeves signing off on Dr. Keith Main s doctoral dissertation.
Salvation is in the Son of God Devotional Corner Salvation is in the Son of God 4 Devotional Corner John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should Dr. Caswell A. Reeves not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. A great number of people wonder about being saved and going to heaven and being lost and going to hell. They wonder if they are saved, hoping they are saved, but really not knowing if they are or not saved. The simple truth of being saved is that salvation is in Jesus Christ the Son of God and in Him alone. us, but to save us. Further He declared, He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (v.18). Hagglund Visit Visit Sixty years after Jesus Christ made this declaration, the Apostle John declared, He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life (1 John 5:12). Do you have the Son and God s promised eternal life? Have you received Jesus Christ as your Savior, putting your faith in Him for everlasting life? -CAR Jesus declared that God loved the world, everyone of us; and that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever is believing in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. This promise of everlasting life means a promise of life forever, or being saved forever. The simplicity of this declaration shares with us that God loves all of us. Because of His love for us, He sent is only begotten Son to save us, which means to give us everlasting life. This life giving salvation comes by believing in the Son, because God chose that through Him the world, all of us might be saved. Jesus did not come to condemn Quotes From the Past: Bunyan, John 1628-1688 Baptist Preacher and Author John Bunyan Prayer is a sincere, sensible, affectionate pouring out of the soul to God, through Christ, in the strength and assistance of the Spirit, for such things as God has promised.
Devotional For Women Grow in Grace The Invisible Church Mat 18:17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. Reflection: One example of the Universal Church not being Biblical is in Matthew 18:17. How can you tell something to a mystical, unnamed, people who are all over the world that you do not know? Consider these questions: Can a universal church have a pastor who oversees and feeds it? Can you tithe in a Can you use your spiritual gift and serve in a Can you practice the one anothers in a Can you practice the Lord s Supper in a Can you practice Baptism in a universal church? Can you practice church discipline in a What many call universal church, are often really referring to the Kingdom of God which are all the saved since the cross of Calvary but it is NOT the church. When you read the Scriptures understanding that they are written to the Church...that means that Christians do not stand as lone Christians but stand within the body of Christ which is His local Church! Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Eph 1:23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. Challenge: As you read the Bible today how does your understanding change when you understand the importance of the audience to which the letters are written? Can you give an example?
