The man is healed by Christ while waiting to be put down into the pool of water. Through baptism in the church we, too, are healed and saved by Christ for eternal life. We know that thousands of people followed Jesus Christ, however, not all of them were healed. In the Gospel pages we don t find so many accounts about healed and cured persons. Likewise, in the present times, there are many people, who believe; there are many of those who crave to be called believers. However, are we really believers, do we truly rely on the Lord, do we trust Him, do we, in our difficulties and problems, depend on Him? Can the Lord act in our life because of our faith? When we see that we lack this faith and trust in the Lord, we do everything in order to increase it. Faith does not come in a moment. In order to trust God unconditionally, to rely on Him in everything, we need to grow in our faith step by step. Faith these are our continual efforts, our ongoing work. Let s try then and there, whatever the circumstances of our life may be, to always rely on the Lord more and more and trust Him! On behalf of the Parish, we want to thank Father Comeau for the excellent presentation during the Mission on March 16 & 17 and his participating in the discussion with the parishioners during the coffee time. We hope that each one that attended found the presentation spiritually enlightening. I would like extend appreciation to all the parishioners that participated in the 12 hour Good Friday Prayer Vigil. We encourage parishioners to partake in any of the Vigils that are being scheduled one day each month from 11:00am to 5:00pm ; and Bible study and Lactio Divina on alternate Tuesday at 7:00pm. Easter Brunch will be on April 22/18 right after Liturgy.Thank you to the UCWLC for agreeing to convene this brunch. We hope everyone had a Happy Easter! Charitable Giving in the Christian Community Charitable giving is central to Christian spirituality. Christians see everything they have, material and spiritual, as unmerited gifts from God. God gives them to us only because he is generous and wants to bless us. God is even a sacrificial giver. Jesus Christ, God-made-man, gave himself up to death so that we could be restored to relationship with God. God is so generous and loving that he holds nothing back that is for our benefit. How then could we, who have received so generously of his love, not be generous in turn to our fellow human beings? How could we not give sacrificially so that all persons, whether Christian or not, could receive God s blessings? Choosing to give is how Christians participate in God s work of blessing this world. God s generosity affects daily life for Christians who are mature in their faith: Christians act as stewards rather than owners of their resources, so all financial decisions start with discerning how God wants them to use their financial resources. They proactively look for opportunities to give rather than waiting passively for fundraising appeals. Because they view themselves as conduits through whom God s blessings flow to people or ministries in need of them, Christians budget to give to charity and to give directly to people in need. Many will choose to live a lifestyle that is lower than the one their income could support, just to make doubly sure they can give. Many Christians challenge themselves to sacrificially give as much as they can while still being cheerful with the amount they re giving. There really is a joy in giving to worthy causes! Giving is very important to me personally for several reasons: Giving to charity leverages my ability to do good deeds. Giving money away is also a check against becoming greedy. It shows that I have surrendered my financial situation to God and trust him to provide as needed. And every time I give, I have the satisfaction of knowing that I am an extension of God s hands at work in this world. Rev. John Pellowe, Chief Executive Officer, Canadian Council of Christian Charities https://www.canadahelps.org/en/giving-life/featured-series/christians-and-charity/ 7
