(Family Service) Holy Communion is celebrated every Wednesday, with prayer for the sick, at 10.30 am in St Matthew s followed by a cup of tea and chat in the McLean Room. All welcome!

Tea & coffee are served in the McLean Room after each service in St. Matthew s. From the Rector The artist s impression, in the church at the shepherds fields in Bethlehem, of the Angels appearing with the message to the Shepherds of the birth of the Prince of Peace is amazing. One can almost feel what it must have been like for those humble shepherds, taken completely by surprise and terrified, but being the first recipients of the wonderful news of the birth of a Saviour. At a time of great uncertainty in our country we need to have something firm to hold on to. The timeless message of Christmas is that of St John who wrote; '.. But to as many as received him he gave power to become sons of God'. What better could anyone hope for than to be called a son or daughter of God? Christmas is about giving and receiving, God s part is to give, our part is to receive and the great news is that even at a time of economic depression the greatest treasure is free. May you know the peace of the Prince of Peace at this Christmas time and throughout 2011. Carol Services and Newtownmountkennedy Carol Service will be on Sunday 19 th at 4.00pm in Parish Church. FAMILY NOTICES Holy Baptism In Parish Church on Sunday 21 st November; Kimberley Rose Hazel daughter of Fred and Tracy Boxall, 70 Seacourt, and Jessica Sophie daughter of Sandra Simpson and Brian Kelly, 10 Broomhall Crescent, Rathnew. We welcome Kimberley and Jessica into our community and we congratulate their parents. Please pray that Kimberley and Jessica will bring lots of happiness to their families and honour the promises made for them at baptism. TUESDAY CLUB We had a great turnout for the film show on Israel last month. Thanks are due to Nathan for the loan of the projector again, to Denis who operated the machinery and to William who came to re-live the two trips he organised this year and who was there to identify some of some of the places visited. Any of us who had been on either trip had fun reminiscing about some of the more amusing aspects and maybe we whetted the appetites of some who might have been considering a future trip. On 14 th December we will be having our usual Christmas Party to which all are welcome. 2.30pm in the McLean Room. Come prepared to take part in the festivities and bring a present (not more than 5 in value) to put in Santa s Sack. On January 11 th we will have a Quiz to make sure that our brains haven t atrophied over Christmas, so, sharpen up your wits and come along providing the weather is kind enough to allow travel to Newtown. PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP In December the Parent and Toddler group will meet in the Rectory Cottage on the 6 th and 13 th and on the 20 th there will be a very special visitor! There will be a break then for the Christmas holidays and the next meeting will be on Monday 10 th January. If you are a new parent or just moved to the area with small children we would love to meet you. Contact Wendy at 086 8478415. COFFEE IN THE COTTAGE Coffee mornings in the Rectory Cottage will continue every Tuesday until Tuesday 14 th. There will be none during Christmas week but everyone is very welcome on Tuesday 28 th and every Tuesday after that from 10.30 to 12.30. All welcome to drop in for a coffee and chat! LEISURELY LUNCH The next lunch in the Rectory Cottage on Thursday 16 th will be our Christmas lunch. We would love to see as many of you as is possible to fit in the

cottage - if possible just let Karen or Clodagh know if you intend to be there. ( 5 per head) TABLE TENNIS Reports from both ends of the parish are that the Table Tennis clubs are the place to be these days. Table Tennis is a fun sport for all ages and those who go regularly are steadily improving, whilst thoroughly enjoying themselves at the same time. Everyone is very welcome to come and join in the fun! every Thursday at 8pm in the Church Room and Newtown every Wednesday at 8pm in the McLean Room Youth Club The Youth Club has two sessions planned for December; an ice-skating trip on Friday 3 rd and a Christmas party on Friday 17 th. If you intend to go skating please text Claire as soon as possible as numbers have to be booked in advance. The plan for 2011 is to have events on every 2 nd and 4 th Friday of the month, with a mixture of trips and activities closer to home and anybody of secondary school age is very welcome. Any of the leaders would be delighted to hear from you if you would like to ask anything about the Youth Club, have any suggestions, or would like to start coming along. Claire Adams 086 8479270 Paul McAndrew 085 7871541 Andrew Johnston 086 8616375 Yvonne Johnston 086 8508879 CRECHE Our crèche is held every Sunday in the Cottage during Service in. It has been a great success for both the children and the helpers. Thank you to the great team of willing helpers. This year a few of the helpers have taken a short sabbatical due to new/pending arrivals. Consequently we need some more volunteers. It would only require a commitment of once every 5 to 6 weeks. If you feel you can give your time please contact Pauline on 087-9535981. Once again a big thank you to those already on the rota. Have a great Christmas and happy New Year. Pauline Hips and Slips Best wishes to all who are recovering from illness. Caroline is recovering from her hip replacement and Essie is out and about having made a great recovery. They both wish to thank all who sent best wishes, remembered them in prayer and visited them during their illness. We also now send best wishes to Ruby who is in hospital following a fall and pray that she too will be back on her feet again soon. Restoration Fund It has been decided to re-launch the Restoration Fund Tin scheme. A surprising amount of cash is collected this way as the loose change soon mounts up. There are a few people still participating in this scheme which is much appreciated. However if you still have a tin which you are no longer using, could you please return it to either church, empty or otherwise! Margaret Murphy has agreed to take over the task of looking after this scheme from Janet Ashe who has been doing it for many years and to whom we are very grateful.

If you would like to take a tin for your loose change or for more information, please contact Margaret, 086 8708516. REMINDERS Select Vestry meeting on Tuesday 30 th November at 8.00pm in the Church Room and Newtownmountkennedy Select Vestry meeting on Tuesday 11 th January at 8pm in the McLean Room A rota for cleaning Church in 2011will be put up in the porch if any volunteers would like to put their name down. Thank you to all those who have kept the church clean during the past year. It is much appreciated. Please remember to return your sustentation envelopes if you have not already done so. Thank you very much to those who have already returned theirs. Christmas Charity Envelopes: An envelope is enclosed with PINS for your donation to a charity of your choice. We know things are very tight this Christmas with the economic situation but this means things are even tighter for those whom we support through the envelopes. Please remember those not so fortunate at home and abroad this Christmas. It would be appreciated if the envelopes would be returned by Sunday 12 th if possible so that the money can be distributed to the various charities before Christmas. COMMUNITY NOTICEBOARD North Wicklow Country Market is held in Community Centre every Saturday from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. There you will find cakes, biscuits, delicatessen fare, vegetables, eggs, plants, flowers, jewellery and pictures, all produced locally. At this time of year, there are lots of lovely Christmas goodies available. Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy
