CERTIFICATE IN TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP 2015-16 INTERNSHIPS

Storehouse Cassiobury Farm & Fishery CML Finance & Accommodation Application & Contact WELCOME TO CML CML exists to train and equip Christian leaders to bring positive and transforming change to our world. The Certificate in Transformational Leadership is a unique programme targeted at Christians who feel ready to lead, but have yet to take on their first significant leadership assignment. The Certificate is open to all, but we have found that most who accept an internship are in the 20-30 age category. The course is best likened to the apprenticeship model favoured by Jesus. Each CML intern takes on a position of leadership in a Christian business or ministry as their primary focus, and the teaching and ministry elements of the course then sit around that core growth environment. An inspirational saying of Jesus is key for us at CML; You are the Salt of the Earth... you are the Light of the World (Matt 5: v13-14). CML hopes to raise up radical disciples of Christ to be transformational leaders ( salt ) and pioneering missionaries ( light ). THE BARN Business/Community General Manager (1 role) The Barn is a joint project with Watford Borough Council, spread across two adjacent venues. The Barn houses fourteen different Christian businesses and charities, and operates a large multi-purpose community hall. The Barn has a turnover of 80,000 per annum and has a customer base of more than 50 community hall users. More details can be found at www.thebarnwatford.co.uk The General Manager is responsible for the P&L of The Barn, the management of the tenant and customer base and the overall marketing and maintenance of the facilities. The vision of The Barn is to make a positive impact on the local area, to work alongside others in the voluntary sector, and to give space to new community initiatives. This role will be helpful to those with a future interest in business, the community or the voluntary sector.

THE URBAN RETREAT Ministry/Contemplative Host (1 role) The Urban Retreat is a space in Watford designed for personal time with God. Created to be an easily accessible oasis, aside from the demands of daily life, it is a place for individuals to come and find rest, rebalancing and refreshing, through intimacy with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. More details can be found at www.urbanretreatwatford.com The Retreat has a Soaking Room, a Reading Room, three Prayer Cells, the Watford Room and a large rooftop garden with Prayer Hut. The Host role looks after the Retreat and welcomes members as they come. They help create an environment of peace and contemplation, and also develop resources, both ancient and modern, to help users encounter God. This role will be helpful to those with a future interest in ministry, monastic traditions or intercession.

THE UPPER ROOM Ministry/Worship Network Co-ordinator (1 role) The Upper Room is a space for meeting with our Lord together in prayer and worship. Based on the top floor of the CML building, the Upper Room senses His invitation to take part in encouraging His people to seek Him together across denominations. More details can be found at www.upperroomwatford.com The Co-ordinator helps the 15 or so groups that use the Upper Room to connect and share a sense of common purpose for God s plan in the Town, as well as leading sessions and events there. This role suits someone with a strong prophetic or intercessory call, with a gift for worship leading or movement or the creative arts. This role will be helpful to those with a future interest in ministry, worship leading or prophecy.

PRESENCE RETAIL LIMITED Business/Retail Operations Assistant (2 roles) Presence Retail Ltd was established in 2004 and is a Business As Mission company. Presence operates a diverse business, comprising a Gift Shop, a luxury Day Spa and a 60-seater Coffee House from 7,000 sq ft of retail space on the High Street in Watford. The business has a turnover of 0.8 million and employs 35 full and part-time staff. More details can be found at www.spaceforyou.net Working for the Operations Manager, the Operations Assistants are responsible for the day to day running of the businesses. Key areas of focus include purchasing, stock management, warehouse management, replenishment and merchandising, marketing, campaign management and facilities management. These are fast paced highly time sensitive roles. This role will be helpful to those with a future interest in business, marketing or operations.

FATHER S HOUSE TRUST Ministry/Wholeness Ministry Team Leader (1 role) Father s House Trust (FHT) is a ministry founded in 2008 with a passion to walk in and give away the revelation of the Father heart of God. As part of a global network of Father Heart ministries, FHT particularly focuses on relationship, networking, events and resources. More details can be found at www.fathershousetrust.co.uk The Ministry Team Leader works with the Leader of the Trust to develop Father Heart training resources, produce blogs and other Father Heart conversation resources, as well as helping to run and lead courses, events, gatherings and one-to-one ministry sessions. This role also co-ordinates communication with the broader FHT Family. This role will be helpful to those with a future interest in ministry, teaching or hosting.

CERTIFICATE IN TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP Interns spend four days per week in their primary leadership role. Each week they gather for two-half days of teaching and group discussion at the main CML building. The teaching programme comprises 40 teaching sessions spread throughout the year. A summary of the teaching programme is enclosed in this brochure, and a more detailed overview can be found at www.cml.uk.net/40+40 PRIMARY WORK PLACEMENT This brochure highlights the typical roles available to CML interns. Our aim in the recruitment process is to match roles to an individual s area of gifting and calling. This means that roles are often shaped around each individual and so there is opportunity to blend or adjust roles as described in this brochure. There are also broader opportunities within our partner organisations for internships in other sphere s of society. Hence we strongly advise all applicants to attend one of our open days so that the organisations and facilities can be experienced first hand and the process of calling and opportunity can be more effectively matched. LEADERSHIP INTENSIVES Twice a year all of the CML interns gather for Leadership Intensives. These are significant moments during the year of teaching, ministry, encounter and growth. Typically led by visiting speakers, the leadership intensives focus on consolidating all that has been learned to date and moving individuals to the next level of maturing and growth. Previous leaders of CML intensives have included Martin Saunders, Mark Greene and Jim Thwaites. A list of CML visiting speakers can be found at www.cml.uk.net/visting-speakers CML COMMUNITY There are a number of aspects of the year at CML which exist to engender community and spiritual growth. The natural friendships and shared experiences of living together in the intern houses and serving on a common mission field foster an environment of strong community and fellowship. In addition, each intern is assigned an experienced coach who they meet with, typically every two weeks, for the duration of the programme. CML is a founder partner of the Kingdom Coaching Network (www.kingdomcoaching.com) CML interns are given free membership of the Urban Retreat and have full access to the CML library & bar called Cappella s.

STOREHOUSE Business/Ministry Operations Assistant (2 roles) Storehouse is a purpose built Christian resource centre opened in 2011. Containing the largest range of resources in England, storehouse offers a range of timeless classics and hidden gems. As well as being a resource centre, storehouse also acts as an information hub to all Christians in the town through its Watford Connect facility. Storehouse turns over 200,000 per annum and operates with a team of part-time and volunteer staff. More details can be found at www.storehousewatford.co.uk The Operations Assistants work for the General Manager and support all areas of Storehouse s operations. This includes customer service, stock management, range selection, marketing, merchandising, campaign management, window displays, account customer management, social media and website management. These roles would be helpful to those with a future interest in business, retail, marketing or operations.

CASSIOBURY FARM & FISHERY Agriculture/Business Farm Assistant (1 role) Cassiobury Farm and Fishery (CFF) is a 15-acre smallholding on the edge of the 200-acre Cassiobury Park Nature Reserve. Originally built in the 1820 s as a watercress farm, CFF has been undergoing a renovation for the past three years. Today it encompasses a fishing lake, rare breeds farm, organic farm, fishery and exotic animal rescue centre. More details can be found at www.cassioburyfarm.co.uk. The Farm Assistant supports all areas of the Farm s operations. This includes livestock management involving daily care, feeding and general well-being of the rare breed farm animals and exotics. The farm has pigs, sheep, goats, ducks, chicken, turkey, deer, alpaca, rhea, reindeer, bees and trout. In addition it looks after marmosets, meerkats, monkeys, racoons, coati s and wallabys. In addition, the Farm operates a large produce business covering watercress, two orchards, organic fruit and veg as well as bottled water, honey, milk, eggs, meat and cheese. This role will be helpful for those who have a future interest in agriculture, business and general outdoor careers.

CENTRE FOR MISSIONAL LEADERSHIP Education/Ministry Operations Manager (1 role) CML was formally opened by the Rev George Carey, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, in 2010, and looks after the core programme, conferences, networks, Cappella s and the Upper Room. More details can be found at www. cml.uk.net The primary focus of the Operations Manager role is the day to day running of CML. The most important part of the role is marketing and communications; looking after the website, social networks, designing and developing marketing materials and publicising events and conferences. This role also looks after the facilities and the running of Cappella s and the Wilberforce Lecture Theatre. This role has a strong administerial focus to it, co-ordinating many different users of the building and supporting the development and running of events and conferences. It would also suit someone with a gift for hosting and with a heart for service. This role will be helpful to those with a future interest in ministry, business, events management, marketing or operations.

FINANCE & ACCOMMODATION FINANCES All the roles at CML operate for 12 months, starting on the 7th September 2015 and running through to the 2nd September 2016 the following year. Free accommodation is provided to CML interns and in addition, a monthly bursary of 275 is provided. Combined, this means interns can come to CML without the need to raise any funds. The student houses themselves are a few doors apart from each other. Each intern has their own room with a bed, desk and wardrobe provided. Both houses have a large shared kitchen, dining area and lounge, making them ideal for community living.
