By Team member Ellie Morrison Our Pope has invited Christians everywhere to renew our personal encounter with Jesus Christ. He asked that we become missionary disciples in our parish and share our faith and friendship with others and Fr. Leo approves it. For centuries, the Catholic Church has been great on theology, dogma and sacraments, but not so great on leading us to a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior. The Alpha program is Catholic and one of the tools that will lead you into a more personal relationship with Christ. We have become too comfortable in our modern secular culture. We need to step out and do something different that will feed the hunger inside of us that yearns for a deeper relationship with Christ. Because we need to give of ourselves and reach out to others. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit we need to share our spirit-filled faith with others. Alpha makes you feel emotionally alive when you bring people to Christ. Alpha is a program of giving, of shepherding, of encouraging, of forming an atmosphere of love with friends, of caring for the person sitting beside you and of sharing your beliefs, your questions and faith with others. Alpha is a way of sharing that love and bonding with your neighbors. Come and share a meal, watch an inspiring video, participate in open discussion, prayer and music. Alpha will feed you. Come, bring a friend, bring a car full, but do join us on Tuesday, Sept. 11th at the Marian Center at 6:00 PM. PLYMOUTH STATE STUDENTS! The only place on campus where you can have a candle and light it! is in the Reflection & Spiritual Care Center, across from Lamson Library, up the street from the shuttle bus stop. For more information, contact the Catholic Scouting Committee at: nhcatholicscouting@gmail.com Message of the Week Judgment tends to have a bad reputation. We often associate it with condemnation, and in the Gospels, we associate it with the Pharisees. Today's Gospel features the Pharisees doing exactly what we expect. "They observed that some of his disciples ate their meals with unclean, that is, unwashed, hands." The Jewish people had strict purification laws that applied to all areas of life. The Pharisees attempt to accuse Jesus of not following the ancestral traditions. Jesus doesn't take offense at their judgments per se. He instead points out the hypocrisy of their words. "You hypocrites? this people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." From there, Jesus turns his attention to the concerns of the heart. "The things that come from within are what defile." He lists off a number of sins, including some the Pharisees were likely struggling with, including evil thoughts, envy, and arrogance. When we examine the list, perhaps we're reminded of our own trips to the confessional! As we strive to follow Jesus and live with integrity, we must be aware of our hearts. We must judge our own actions. Are they leading us closer to God or away from Him? Are we growing in love of our neighbor, or are we becoming more closed in on ourselves? As we move into this week, consider the state of our own heart. Perhaps you are overly scrupulous in less important areas. Perhaps there are large areas of overlooked sin that you've excused for too long. Whatever it is, the judgment of God need not cripple us. He offers us a share in His mercy as soon as we turn to Him. This week, allow your heart to be transformed!
Holy Trinity Parish Christian Life Center If you are new to the parish, or visiting, perhaps you are wondering what this new center will provide. We ll all have easy access to restrooms, meeting spaces, and parish offices. We ll find the church open on weekdays to use for personal prayer outside of Mass. We'll have a dedicated, sacred space to celebrate Reconciliation. We'll meet in open, sunny spaces that we can quickly arrange to accommodate small and large gatherings. We'll have a new, spacious kitchen for preparing meals and serving bereavements, luncheons and receptions. If you would like to contribute or learn more information about this project, please ask Fr. Leo or Deacon Mike. The building sketches can be found in the back of the church. Campaign envelopes are in the pews. Thanks for your interest in helping to provide a place to enhance the building of Catholic faith in central New Hampshire.
