ADOREMUS (7 th -9 th September) The bishops of England and Wales are holding a National Eucharistic Pilgrimage and Congress in Liverpool in September 2018. Eucharistic Congresses are gatherings of clergy, religious and laity which promote an awareness of the central place of the Eucharistic in the life and mission of the Church. The last International Eucharistic Congress in England was held in 1908 when permission for a public procession of the Blessed Sacrament was refused. Participants will engage in a series of sessions focusing on different dimensions of the Eucharist and the daily celebration and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Four representatives and Fr John from this parish are going to this event, please pray for them and for an increase in devotion to Our Lord Jesus Christ, present in the Blessed Sacrament. Today is Education Sunday it is a special time of the year when our Catholic community comes together to celebrate and support our catholic schools. Coinciding with the start of the academic term it is an opportunity for us to give thanks for the important work our schools perform. Catholic schools couldn t exist without the support of the Catholic community. This has been the case for the last 170 years. The retiring collection taken this weekend is vital in enabling our schools to continue to thrive. Launceston: the regular meetings with Deacon Richard have started again after the holiday season. We meet every FIRST and THIRD Thursday at 6pm in the Charles Langdon Room. The group will look at the Readings for Sunday Mass. You are very welcome to join us. First Holy Communion classes (age 7+) will begin in October. The Celebration Masses will be in Eastertide 2019. Launceston: Adoration will now be moved to Saturday mornings starting 10.30am after mass for one hour finishing 11.30am. There will still be an opportunity to say the rosary and have confessions during this time. Please do not feel you have to stay for the whole hour of Adoration. (Starting date to be announced). Launceston: there will be no 10am mass on Saturday 15 th September due to Fr John attending a Farewell Mass for the Sisters at Lynton. There will be a retiring collection at all masses next weekend for Home Missions Sunday. On this day the Bishops invite parishes to pray for the mission of the Church in England and Wales and to support the Bishops work of evangelisation.
Society of St Vincent de Paul awareness month Our local SVP supports two twinned conferences in India costing 300 per year. One of our twins is in Kerala District of India and a special appeal was made by them for seven goats to be bought for needy families. In view of the expense the cost was shared between us, the SVP Conferences in Cornwall and also our SVP Central Council based in the diocese. No doubt you will have heard on the news recently of the devastating floods in this region. As a result our Diocesan SVP are making a special effort to raise funds for this area and this will be paid into the SVP Disaster Fund. A special collection will be made later on the 7th October, but anyone wishing to donate prior to then may pass it to a local SVP member. A photo from our twin showing the goats and a letter of appreciation are on the notice boards.
