Congregación de las Hermanas de San José de Carondelet Jr. Talara 344 Jesús María, Lima 11, Perú Tel. Casa 01-757-0980 Apartado 11082 Jesús María, Lima, Perú Email: hna.csjperu@gmail.com Dear Sisters, NOTICIERO JULIO Y AGOSTO 2018 We recently spent some time together and Mary McGlone invited us to visit the Log Cabin; she asked us to go inside and to look around with our eyes open to the journey that our Sisters have already traveled; to listen to the testimonies of their courage, and their interesting histories and to hear with the heart how God has molded the Sisters little by little, nourishing them with zeal for the Reign of God while they discover and serve those who need them most: Called to Be and to Do all of which a woman is capable of doing to serve the Dear Neighbor. To make this journey in Our History (something that only God could have invented), with the Familia San Jose from Chile and with Mary s excellent direction has made our hearts vibrate with joy to lift up our eyes to see hope even as we look at our suffering world. We saw the sad reality of the Church in Chile, where the people have lost confidence in their pastor. In spite of the scandal, the members of Familia san Jose de Chile shared that the commitment of the laity, their parishes, (themselves included) remains strong because their faith in God is greater than that which occurred in the Church; yes, there is pain but also hope. Here in Peru, we have felt the frustration and indignation along with the people as we see the acts of corruption perpetrated by our authorities and politicians, because of their ambition to gain more power and money. However, the words of Pope Francis telling us Don t allow anybody to steal your hope has motivated us to contemplate God s call, and to be a living testimony with a life of commitment to our vocation as Sisters of St. Joseph. Other events that have fortified our CSJness have been Sister Yolanda s Perpetual Vow celebration and the visit of two very dear friends, very much loved in the VP because of their testimony of consecrated life, simplicity and profound love of God and of the dear neighbor. Let us continue to listen as God calls us in the signs of the times. There is something new, don t you see it? With love, Gloria, Zaida and Maritza MONTH OF JULY HAPPY FIESTAS PATRIAS PERU We celebrated Fiestas Patrias with hope, in spite of the discouraging news about corruption, violence and increasing poverty. We appreciated the fact that President 1
Vizcarra in his discourse on July 28 has promised to work for a better Peru with justice, honesty, truth. The challenge for us is to involve ourselves more into fomenting the common good and to be a testimony of the values he mentioned. NEWS FROM THE PEQUEÑO PROYECTO COMMUNITY (Brisas) In the month of July, we have been very blessed. We have had the joy of the presence of Pamela Navarro in a very special way. It has been a time to live day by day with her in a special manner and we are very grateful especially because of her joy, her reflections, her sense of humor and all that she transmits to us as a person. In addition, we had a great visit with her sister Lili and neice Alejandra. We accompany you with our prayers as you experience the other local communities of the VP. Thank you Pamela for this time together. We miss you! Participation in the Course for the Formation of JPIC Animators This month, we also had the opportunity to participate in the II Course for the Formation of Animators of JPIC. It was a time for formation, reflection, learning and action with topics relating to immigrants (Venezuelans), the many women who have been assassinated, human trafficking, etc. These are urgent calls that require our response and where we can unite our efforts with others, acknowledging and respecting every person s human rights. As you can see, we are few but God helps us to get involved. Sharing with the dear neighbor We had a meeting with the parish choir for prayer, dynamics and reflection. It was a very good experience for us as well as for them. Their sharing was full of gratitude to 2
God and to the parish where they offer their voices in the choir. One of their comments was: It has been wonderful, thank you Sisters; hopefully, we can repeat the experience. We have tried to transmit a sense of unity such as that which our charism invites us to live through the mission. Celebrating Fiestas Patrias Our family grew! We had the good fortune to celebrate this fiesta together with the Sisters from Gran Amor de Dios and the Familia de San José from Chile. As you can appreciate, we really had a good time as one family, the way it should be. Thank you Sisters for sharing so much joy. CSJ DAYS-2018, IN LIMA We had this event from July 30 to the First of August. It was three days where the Sisters and the Familia de San José shared our history together. We began with a time for integration so that we could know each other better and be able to enjoy our time together. After that, we had a wonderful narration about the beginnings of the Sisters of St. Joseph in the USA, thanks to our Sister Mary McGlone. We enjoyed the stories and the creative manner in which our Sisters responded to the calls of the Spirit. We are very grateful to Mary for sharing the treasure of our history. Besides the Familia de San José we had Gloria Muchaypiña (St. Joseph in Canada working in Chincha) and Norma Ramos (St. Joseph of Lyon in Mexico). The members of the Familia de San José, this year were: Guacolda, María, Dalila and Angela ; we appreciate their sharing and testimony especially at this time that is so difficult for the Church in Chile. 3
MONTH OF AUGUST THE UNFORGETABLE VISITS FROM OUR SISTERS We began the month of August with the wonderful visits from our Sisters: Mary McGlone, Theresa Kvale and Teresa Avalos. Their presence was a time of renewal for us. We have really enjoyed sharing our memories together. We enjoyed each one of them; for us, they are a gift. Hopefully, they will return soon; they will always be welcomed. Theresa Kvale: It s been a privilege for me to have had the opportunity to return to a place that I love so much. I feel like I am returning home and I appreciate the wonderful hospitality of all the VP. When I arrived, I recognized the house from the outside but from the inside, it seemed much more Peruvian. The VP is truly Peruvian in every respect and I am very happy to have been a part of the past and it is also beautiful to see how they have integrated to become One as a Congregation. Thank you to each one of you. With love from your friend, Theresa Teresa Ávalos: From the moment I arrived in Peru, I have felt at home and very comfortable, thanks to the warm welcome from all the Sisters of the Vice Province. I have enjoyed everything: Yolanda s vow ceremony, community prayers, delicious Peruvian food, going to the market and my conversations with the sisters. Also, I felt a lot of emotion when I met with some former students from colegio Santa Rosa who were my students more that 50 years ago and to feel their love and gratitude once again. So, this trip has been a gift that I didn t expect and I Thank God and Theresa Kvale for this enormous gift. Thank you, Sisters, a million thanks. VIVENCIA DE VOTOS DE YOLANDA On August 3rd, at lunch time, we accompanied Yoli (Yolanda) with a delicious dinner in Canto Chico. We enjoyed our time together which included Yoli s family and friends. Then at 4 o clock we participated in the Final Profession Mass of our Sister Yoli in the San Pablo chapel in Canto Chico, San Juan de Lurigancho. We thank God for being present at this celebration of Yoli s generous Yes among us and the dear neighbor. The fiesta ended at the Center House (Jesus Maria) where we enjoyed some surprise numbers animated by Agripina and Pamela. In addition to these, we had the visit of Mother St. John Fontbonne, who gave us some advice that would help us to continue to enjoy life as Sisters of St. Joseph. These are some of the photos of that special day. 4

Remembering her, I can express myself and say that I feel full of grace; and I can make Mary s words mine: My spirit rejoices in God my Savior because He has done great things in me, because with God s blessing and the company of you my CSJ Sisters I have come to the point of making my definite commitment, my alliance with the God of Jesus, within the womb of our Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, to live in union with each other and with our brothers and sisters from whom we do not separate ourselves. Sisters, I am filled with much gratitude, joy and pride to be a CSJ. THANK YOU for your generosity, for your accompaniment all these years and to be able to say YES to a life of consecration and because my consecration has been the most profound and happy moment of my life; Thank you for rejoicing with me, for permitting 6
me to be happy and to share my happiness with you, my family and friends: Thank you for your embrace and your welcome! May our Patron, St. Joseph, continue to bless us to be sisters who manifest the unity and joy of the Gospel. With gratitude, Yoli, csj INTRACONGREGATIONAL MEETING We had our Intracongregational Meeting in August from the 29th to the 31st. Sisters Marianne Leininger, Sally Harper, and Ruth Matos helped us in our reflections about some important issues for our future. We also dialogued about the models that were presented by the Innovation Committee. We trust that God will grace us so that we can respond to what He desires for us and for the world. We are united in prayer and love during this special time when our prayer and contemplative dialog are so important in order for us to listen attentively to God s call.
