We have chosen the way of truth. Psalm 119:30 VOLUME 2 May 29, 2016 Number 22 From the Pastor s Heart Greetings Southside Family, Tomorrow we will celebrate Memorial Day. Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation s service. Memorial Day was first observed May 30, 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. Many Americans have forgotten the meaning and traditions of Memorial Day. Many men and women have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the fight for freedom. Don t forget to have a moment of remembrance tomorrow, and please continue to pray for all of our men and women that are currently serving our nation through the Armed Services. You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please Him who enlisted him as a soldier (2 Timothy 2:3-4). Remember, we are soldiers for the Lord! The cause for freedom that we fight for in the Lord s army is the freeing of souls from hell. Let s continue to report for duty. On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone for their sacrificial gift in support of my trip to Ethiopia. I will depart tomorrow for Ethiopia and return on June 11 th. Please keep my sweet wife and kids in your prayers during this time of separation, as well as prayers for many souls to be saved in Hiawassee, Ethiopia. Thanks in advance for your continued prayers! May the Gospel go forth with power and assurance in the region of Hiawassee, Ethiopia. Love you church! In Christ, Stacy Stafford

VISIT OUR HOME ON THE WEB: www.sbcdothan.org Good morning, Memorial Day is tomorrow, a time when we, as a nation, take time to honor our fallen soldiers. These men and women gave all to ensure that we can enjoy the freedom this nation offers. Let us never take for granted the sacrifice of so many brave souls. Memorial Day was first conceived toward the end of the Civil War. This day was originally known as Decoration Day. On May 5 th, 1868, General John A. Logan, the leader of a Civil War Veterans society wanted to honor the fallen soldiers. The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land, he proclaimed. On the first Decoration Day, General James Garfield gave a speech at Arlington Cemetery where 5,000 participants decorated 20,000 soldiers graves. In 1971, Memorial Day became a federal holiday under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act. The freedom we enjoy is far from free. Our freedom in the US, great as it is, is only temporary. Christ offers an eternity of freedom through His ultimate sacrifice on Calvary s Cross. While observing Memorial Day, take some time to reflect and thank those who gave all for our national freedom. Also, spend some time thanking God for the eternal freedom He offers in Christ. Sola Fide Bro. D. Dear Family of God, Ron and I just love you all so much.
