Worship Excerpt from the Sermon Journal, Monday, July 2, 2018 Written by Pastor Tom Harrison I Lead with Resolve As cupbearer to the king, Nehemiah had regular access to the throne. He prayed before this audacious request. He asked the king for time off from his royal duties to return to his home country to repair Jerusalem s walls. He also asked the king to pay for it! This was a big risk. Nehemiah could lose his job and maybe his life. He came prepared with a strategic plan. The king had affection for Nehemiah and granted the request. Nehemiah used his influence in his vocation. Vocation means a calling. He changed jobs but stayed true to his call. When Nehemiah toured Jerusalem, he saw the disrepair. He exercised extreme ownership. He led. He recruited teammates. Verses 17-18 are an invitation to potential helpers: Come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem that we will no longer be in derision. Meanwhile, the bad actors, with vested financial and political interests, repeatedly tried to stop him. Something to Think About: We must align with God s mission and principles and, with the Holy Spirit s help, learn how to live in them. We become like who we worship. Prayer is essential. We also become like our friends. Show me your friends, I ll show you your future. Some are disruptive or uncommitted. We have challenges at home, church, work and school, but we must understand and support the mission. We are to work hard and produce good results. Daily scripture readings for the upcoming week July 9: Nehemiah 3:22-32 July 10: Genesis 4:1-16 July 11: Leviticus 19:9-18 July 12: Matthew 5:43-48 July 13: Luke 10:25-37 July 14: Romans 13:8-10 Next week: Extreme Ownership: I Lead with Neighbors

Asbury s Mission: Helping Others Follow Jesus We exist to make disciples. A disciple is a person who follows Jesus. We believe that following Jesus is the key to life because He forgives our sin and gives us eternal life. Furthermore, He provides direction, meaning, and heals our hurts here and now. Asbury s discipleship helps you connect with others just like you! You will learn about God, the Bible and how our faith applies to life. Come join us on August 26 for a Fellowship Meal with our Senior Pastor from 12:15 2 pm to learn more about becoming an Asbury member, the mission and how you can become involved in the life of the church.
