The Messenger ROGERSVILLE U.M.C. 51 TURNER LINDSEY ROAD ROGERSVILLE, ALABAMA 35652 November, 2016 Inside this Issue 2-3 Children & Youth 4 Groups 5 stewardship 6 Mission & Misc. 7 calendar 8 Birthdays & anniversaries Ushers For November Jeff Downs Colin Downs Jeff Hendrix Greeters For November Rick Worthington Jane Alexander INTERNALLY STRONG, EXTERNALLY FOCUSED Over the last month, much of what they church has been teaching, preaching and studying is about being internally strong and externally focused. That was the focus of our Stewardship Campaign, and it is the focus of many of our meetings as we prepare for next year. The leadership of the church spends this time of the year preparing for the coming year. There are leaders to be nominated and trained, budgets to be considered and trainings of other leaders/ servants in the church to schedule. All of this to ensure the church is Internally Strong, Externally Focused. I pray that after spending the month talking about our responsibilities as stewards of all God has created and given to us, that you have an expanded definition of stewardship. The kingdom of God is about much more than just gold and silver. It is about being good stewards with all God has given us. It is about being a good steward with relationships, gifts, talents, the Word, creation, and our families. Yes, it is about being good stewards with our finances as well. It requires planning and work to ensure you are giving your best to God in all things. It requires budgeting your time, talents and tithes to make sure God gets your best, not your leftovers. This is a time of spiritual preparation as well. This is the time of the year for you to begin planning spiritually for next year. How much time will you spend in church? How many hours will you spend each week working for God; in the church, visiting the sick, working in the community and/or in the school. How many hours will you volunteer to missions each month in the coming year? Have you planned for a mission trip or an Emmaus walk this year? How much time will you spend with your family, developing their, and your, spirituality? How much time will you spend in prayer each day, and Bible study with your family each week? How many meals will you eat at the table together? How many times will you turn off phones, TV s and games to sit and talk or play a game as a family? How many books on spirituality will you read this year? You see, it is not just the church that has to begin working on and budgeting things for the coming year. Every child of God should sit down and put together a spiritual budget for the week, month and year. Then, spend plenty of time in prayer and meditation asking God to help you fulfill His plan and your budget. Hopefully they look very similar to each other. Robert 1
