THE WORSHIP OF GOD IN CHRIST JESUS THE LORD Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost Labor Day September 3, 2017 11:00 a.m. WE COME BEFORE GOD The Gathering of God s People The Prelude The Welcome and Announcements The Invocation and the Lord s Prayer Our Father, which art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory, forever and ever. Amen. The Chiming of the Hour The Introit The Call to Worship Romans 12:9-10,12-19,21 Love must be honest and true. Hate what is evil. Hold on to what is good. Love each other deeply. Honor others more than yourselves. When you hope, be joyful. When you suffer, be patient. When you pray, be faithful. Share with God s people who are in need. Welcome others into your homes. Bless those who hurt you. Bless them, and do not call down curses on them. Be joyful with those who are joyful. Be sad with those who are sad. Agree with each other. Don t be proud. Be willing to be a friend of people who aren t considered important. Don t think that you are better than others. Don t pay back evil with evil. Be careful to do what everyone thinks is right. If possible, live in peace with everyone. Do that as much as you can. Leave room for God to show his anger. Don t let evil overcome you. Overcome evil by doing good. The Hymn of Praise No. 278 The Pastoral Prayer Make Me a Captive, Lord

WE LISTEN FOR GOD S WORD The First Scripture Lesson Jeremiah 15:15-21 The Children s Sermon The Hymn of Faith No. 405 Have Faith in God The Offertory Prayer The Collection of Tithes and Offerings The Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly hosts; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. The Anthem The Second Scripture Lesson Psalm 100:1-5 The Response to the Reading of God s Word This is the Word of God for the People of God: Thanks be to God. The Sermon Dr. Mark Olson When was the last time you made a joyful noise? WE RESPOND TO GOD S CALL The Invitation to Christian Response The Hymn of Response No. 495 Serve the Lord with Gladness The Words of Dismissal Matthew 16:24-27 Then Jesus spoke to his disciples. He said, If anyone wants to follow me, he must say no to himself. He must pick up his cross and follow me. If he wants to save his life, he will lose it. But if he loses his life for me, he will find it. What good is it if someone gains the whole world but loses his soul? Or what can anyone trade for his soul? The Son of Man is going to come in his Father s glory. His angels will come with him. And he will reward everyone in keeping with what they have done. The Benediction The Congregational Response May the grace of Christ our Savior and the Father s boundless love, With the Holy Spirit s favor, Rest upon us from above. AMEN. The Postlude

There is a sign-up sheet in the Great Hall with specific needs and volunteer opportunities. Please be prayerful about how you can serve the Lord through this ministry event. Gratitude Over Due Earlier this year, in June, I received a very generous gift from an anonymous donor(s). This donation has helped me in a very special way, with my many medical expenses from my required ongoing cancer treatments. Since I have been unable to return to daily functions at my company, sometimes, it can get very worry-some. God always knows our trouble hearts and minds without even coming before him. Also, I've have been overwhelmed and thankful for the many prayer cards sent me during the last few years. I would also like to thank the Deacon Committee for their support and for all the blessings and prayers called in my name. Kathleen and I are grateful for all the support from many caring Haymarket Baptist Church members. It has touched my Heart! God s blessings to all of you, Patrick McGahan
